    Gigabyte Offices Raided

Can't speak to their recent quality but Gigabyte made some superb boards for 775 and X58. My GA-X58-UD5 still gets regular use and it's been going for over a decade.

    3.2TB SSD for $240

Side by side with the new one and the one I bought earlier, the 2nd one has 81% remaining too. I'm going to try running the second drive in my ancient ESXi build, if I can get ESXi to detect then I should be able to run VMs directly from this.

Cliff Bleszinski openly admits going woke can hurt games.

Lawbreakers failed because of poor marketing, a terrible / confusing title, and not having enough of a "hook" to differentiate it from competing FPS. I honestly thought the game was some sort of futuristic cops and robbers FPS based on the only ad I remember seeing when it was released. I...

    3.2TB SSD for $240

Got mine installed earlier today, 74% life remaining. Slipped it into my workstation and it just fit behind the hardline - no loop draining required thankfully. Ran a batch of tests against my various SSDs - excellent numbers for the amount of storage and price. Absolutely puts my Samsung PM863...

    3.2TB SSD for $240

Too good a deal to pass up for this much SSD, ordered and supposed to arrive next Tuesday. Mulled this over and came to the conclusion that it should maybe, probably squeeze behind the hardline run. Worst case scenario, I guess I'll just have to figure out a block for it and put it in the loop...

    3.2TB SSD for $240

Random question for anyone who bought one of these: How wide is the pcb on this ssd? (from PCIe connector to opposite edge) I wanted to check clearance to see if I could squirrel one of these behind some hardline in my loop.

Wow great price on the deluxe audio strap + Vive! Out of curiosity, do the old basestations work well with the Index / any issues?

best new gpu for around $350?

One of my family has a pc with a 1070, it has a solid OC of around 2050mhz. I benched RDR2 on it out of curosity, it can only run max settings / 1080p around 40 fps (+/-). For comparison, the overclocked 1080ti in my loop does around 60fps at 1080p maxed. I think 5700xt is around the...

    WTB I7-980X

If your motherboard works with it, grab a w3690 off of eBay. I picked one up for just under $70 a few months ago, not quite up to the 990x I have in separate build but easily better than any of the x56xx processors I’ve played with.

Former or current 1080 ti/Titan (Pascal) owners

IMO blower cards don't get enough respect. They fill a very important niche in workstations for users / companies that don't want to pay the Quadro tax. The current RTX FE coolers are decent and look fantastic but can't exhaust hot air from a poorly ventilated chassis (most workstations from HP...

What Is Your Personal Favorite Video Card of All Time?

9700 PRO aiw and the x800 aiw after that. honorable mention is the 6800go - my first high end laptop and being able to play any dx9 title at the time was incredible on something I could untether from the wall and take with me.

Former or current 1080 ti/Titan (Pascal) owners

I built a new threadripper system as a workstation, daily driver, and gaming pc last November. The specs were initially as follows: 2950x, X399 MSI MEG Creation, 64gb DDR4, RTX 2080ti. I do really enjoy the build now, but god damn it has been a enormous pain in my ass to get to this point and a...

    Too good to be true?

Ebay support / buyer protections are solid. Only in extreme cases do they side with sellers, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Worst case scenario with a scammer or fakes is lost time and effort in having to wait a week or two to get your money back.

    VR Backpacks & Laptop Back-strapping

If you have the original Vive or an Oculus, the TPCast wireless works as an alternative to the backpack / paying big bucks for Vive pro wireless setup. It’s a worthwhile purchase if you’ve already got one of the compatible headsets. The setup is a pain but the wireless is seamless and they can...

    WeWork cuts back office perks

From what I've seen, the viable form of this venture is a "mom & pop" / small business version where someone opens a shared office space and then tailors it to the needs of local remote workers. I know of a few in the MD/DC/VA region that seem to be doing ok... that said, I highly doubt the...

RIP Newegg, you weren't good lately anyway

I had no idea they were bought out - that makes a lot of sense in retrospect. I'm guessing this happened somewhere between 2014-16... That was when I started defecting to Microcenter because their service was going downhill. Anymore, their prices are competitive at best, shipping has gone way...

3rd gen Threadripper, big fail and missed opportunity for AMD.

I get the sense that AMD wasn't expecting intel to drop prices quiet so hard or fast. I have to agree that $1300 for the base option is steep, especially when there are use cases for TR platform that do not require that many cores. The extra confusion regarding TRX40 vs WRX/TRX80 is irritating...

Epyc Rome 64c/128t ES CPUs (repairable?)

Ugh, I hear that, at least with these Epyc chips you know what to expect in terms of damage. I had a similar experience a few years ago with “great deal” on an X5690. Or it was a good deal until the seller shipped the CPU loose in a lightly padded envelope. Thankfully they were nice regarding...

Engineering Sample - Wang (Freestyle?) ISA video card

Stumbled on this, more VOGONS than [H], but seems to be an audience for ES oddities here so enjoy ;) Not sure of the exact purpose, evidently allows Apple monitors on Wang freestyle workstations / PC. GDM-FW900 CRT
