Review: Gigabyte Aorus GeForce RTX 2080 Xtreme 8G

Review: Gigabyte Aorus GeForce RTX 2080 Xtreme 8G I found this interesting as it has comparisons with the Radeon VII and 1080ti. At this point, it looks like these three cards are pretty evenly matched unless you want ray-tracing.

    New Issues with Previously-Stable 2500k

I have a power supply tester that has been reliable in identifying bad power supplies. $10-30 on Amazon or New Egg. This should give you a quick easy way to check. Also - after years of running that OC on the CPU, it probably has a bit of degradation. The previous suggestions to lower the...

    Seasonic X-750 750W PSU 10 Year Redux @ [H]

I enjoyed this review as I have been running a Seasonic X-850 since July of 2013. That is 5 1/2 years. It is still running strong through 3 builds. It is one those purchases were I really got a lot of value. Gonna miss these reviews and you guys.

Enermax MaxRevo 1800W Power Supply Review @ [H]

I have relied on HardOCP for my power supply buying decisions for years (my old Seasonic X850 is still going strong). I am just repeating the above sentiments but not sure where I am going to go for my future buying decisions. You guys are the best!

What will be your go-to replacement for HardOCP.com

I have this on my "Tech" tab for my daily stops even though they were big defenders of signing the NVIDIA NDA. I also regularly check extremetech.com and PCWorld.com. If you watch the video's on PCWorld.com, you can find Kyle featured on several of them.

AMD Radeon VII Chilling & Undervolting @ [H]

Very interesting review. These Radeon VII cards are looking like a really solid card. As AMD irons out some driver/bios kinks and tweaks are applied to the cards (undervolting) these cards are looking more and more competitive to the 2080/1080ti.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Review

This card and this whole Nvidia stack does not interest me at all. I picked up a used 1080ti last fall, and it is going to last me for the next release or two. If I had to buy a new card today, I would go with either: a Vega 56 or 580 over the 1660ti (for 1080p) or a Radeon VII over a 2080...

AMD Radeon VII Video Card Review @ [H]

I am betting that in 6 months, the Radeon VII will be beating the 2080 in most of these benchmarks. I think in the long run it's a better buy.

AMD Radeon VII Video Card Review @ [H]

Thanks guys for getting this review out. If I were buying a $700 GPU today, I would consider this card pretty even with the 2080 and would probably get the Radeon Vega II just because NVIDIA has been nasty lately. While the RTX2080 has had plenty of time for the drivers to mature, I think AMD...

    Corsair SF450 (2018) 450W SFX Power Supply Review @ [H]

I was just going by the conclusion referencing the review of the Seasonic FOCUS SGX-450 450W SFX-L PSU (https://www.hardocp.com/article/2018/12/31/seasonic_focus_sgx450_450w_sfxl_psu_review/9). Reading closely, the Corsair unit is a bit shorter although they are both SFX.

    Corsair SF450 (2018) 450W SFX Power Supply Review @ [H]

While this looks like a good PS, the conclusion just reinforces why I always end up with Seasonic Power supplies. They are almost always a bit better and usually at a better price/value.

    Would going from a 1070 to a 2070 make a noticeable improvement at 1440/100Hz?

Back in September, I picked up an MSI GTX1080 TI Gaming X for $550 on eBay. I could not be happier with this purchase. I did this and upgraded my monitor to a 4K monitor at the same time. My current back-up gaming system has 1440p/144hz G-Sync monitor which runs great with a GTX1080. I think...

ASUS ROG Maximus XI Formula Z390 Motherboard Review

I am a bit confused.. the $450 Maximus XI high end board gets a Gold Award, while the $275 Maximus Hero XI gets called out for diluting the the ROG brand due to the VRM implementation (and they have the same VRM solution?) Am I missing something?

The perfect 4K 43” monitor! Soon! Asus XG438Q ROG

I am really happy with my LG 43 4K monitor. Even though the refresh is 60hz it seems pretty smooth to me, even after moving from my 144hz 1440p monitor. It has several picture modes including a couple of gaming modes. I bet this ASUS monitor is gonna be pricey.

ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero Z390 Motherboard Review

My last two builds have been with Asus ROG Hero boards (Maximus VI with a 4770K and my current Crosshair VII Hero). Both of these were Gold Award winners and have been rock solid for me. The Maximus is going still going strong after 5 years with a moderate OC on a 4770k. Too bad to see ASUS...

Battlefield V NVIDIA Ray Tracing RTX 2080 Performance @ [H]

Merry Christmas Kyle and thanks for posting something for us to read today. I am just not seeing a good reason to upgrade these days. While I applaud Nvidia for bringing out a new technology, at this point it does not seem to provide any benefit. There is no game out where this makes for a...

    Used 1080 ti's

MSI GeForce RTX 2080 GAMING X TRIO Review @ [H]

Thanks for the review. This looks like a well build card, but the GPU just does not look compelling enough to make the investment. My current Gaming X 1080ti should give me pretty comparable performance (especially at 4k). I am thinking picking up my 1080ti on Ebay for $550 a couple of months...

ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2080 Ti Video Card Review @ [H]

The price of this card just make me lose interest - other than as a novelty. My 1080ti is giving me a great 4K experience, and if a game is too demanding, I just switch over to my 1440p 144Hz G-sync monitor for some buttery smoothness.

Corsair H115i RGB Platinum All-In-One CPU Cooler Review @ [H]

Loved seeing this review. I run a Corsair H110i which I think is pretty similar to the h115i reviewed today. The one beef I have with Corsair is distinguishing between their different coolers. I did swap out the stock fans for a couple of Noctua fans and could not be happier. OK... so the...

    RTX 2070 vs RTX 2080 vs GTX 1080 Ti vs GTX 1070 @ [H]

Great Article! These comparisons are exactly what we have been looking for. Thanks for listening to your readers and doing this. I am feeling really good about my recent purchase. Last month I picked up an MSI Gaming X 1080ti off Ebay for $550 (included delivery and no tax). After a month...

MSI GeForce RTX 2070 GAMING Z Performance Review @ [H]

Bwaahahahaha,.... laughing my arse off over this NDA thing. Kudos to Kyle for getting this review out there. I would have liked a 1080ti in the comparison mix. I am guessing the 2070 performs just below the 1080ti. Plus, at $599, it's not too far off the 1080ti price.

    Intel's i9-9900K Is Only 12% Faster than AMD's 2700X at Gaming, but 66% Pricier

I am happy with my Ryzen 2700x. I also ran a 8700k for awhile as my main rig. With the same GPU (1080 at the time) my benchmarks were all higher with the 2700x. I think I am gonna stay with this Ryzen2700 CPU for awhile. Not seeing a good reason to go for a i9-9900.

    My Personal Generational Performance Results

This is a log of my upgrades and performance results over the last couple of years: Using 3D-Mark results as a comparative benchmark. My GPUs have all been NVIDIA since my last AMD card (6950). I did have a 980 in there between the 680 ad 1070 but I guess I didn't benchmark it. CPUs have...

    ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2080 Ti and 2080 4K Preview @ [H]

I am a little less impressed with the 2080.. I am currently running a MSI 1080ti Gaming X and I am betting it comes pretty close to the Strix 2080 - a lot closer than the reference 1080ti in the review.

GeForce RTX 2080 Overclocking Preview with Scanner @ [H]

Good to see you guys have these cards in. Looking forward to the full review. (without any of the NDA restrictions). I am agreeing with this. With the 2080 coming in so close to the 1080ti Nvidia had to get their clocks as high as possible. As is it, the 2080 is barely beating 1080ti. Last...

GeForce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti Reviews

RTX 2080 TI vs GTX 1080 TI Benchmark

I am running 1440p with gsync @144htz with a 1080. Pretty much run everything at ultra settings. So how are you liking 21:9 1440 and what GPU you using? I am looking at moving to that resolution. And, to support that, I am thinking of upgrading my GPU to a 1080ti or 2080.

Seasonic FOCUS PLUS Gold 650W Power Supply Review @ [H]

I had an PS fail in one of my older builds and went with a Seasonic FOCUS 750 Gold. I saved about $30 by going with the regular (non PLUS) version. Main difference I see is it's not fully modular, and the warranty is 7 years instead of 10. I wonder how the regular Seasonic FOCUS Gold Power...

Corsair K63 Wireless Gaming Keyboard & Lapboard Review @ [H]

Thanks for these Sunday night posts. Finally something techie to read. Corsair makes great stuff. Unfortunately for me, as a lefty I need a num pad. I do like the idea of a wireless KB for my gaming rig as my current chipset has Bluetooth. NOTE: I am finding the iCue software to be a bit...

Corsair H100i PRO RGB Liquid AIO CPU Cooler Review @ [H]

I did a new build a couple of months ago and went with the H110i. After slapping on some Noctua fans, it is super quiet. My old h100i is still running (5 plus years) on my older 4770k system so these things are pretty durable. One problem: The iQue or LINK software has not been upgraded to...

The Crew 2 Video Card Performance Review @ [H]

What is interesting to me here is the match-up between the gtx1080 and the Vega64. Like they have done in the past, AMD cards just seem to get better as they mature their drivers while Nvidia cards are pretty much full performance out of the gate. In most reviews I have seem lately the Vega64...

Intel Wants You to Use Vulkan

I am looking to move to a 3440 x 1440 monitor very soon myself. I currently have a 27' g-sync monitor and a gtx1080 @1440p. Seriously considering moving over to a Vega64 and Freesync set-up for the same reasons as noted above. I think my GTX1080 would struggle at 3440 x 1440 without a g-sync...
