Waterfox browser sold to ad company...

Sure it was his project and he was able to do what he wanted with it, I don't think anyone is disputing that item. That doesn't exempt him from criticism. A privacy oriented company selling out to an advertising company that is diametrically opposed to the original and existing (up until...

    [H]OT Deal? DELL PowerEdge R610/R710 Servers sub $200? ($149-199)

Old and power hungry. I'd pass on this at this point to be 100% honest. The only time I'd consider one of these is if I needed a cheap SQL server. These machines can stack gobs of RAM cheap.

    VMware Updates per-CPU Pricing Model

Yeah, I'm sure that it's for "ease of comparison" and not to milk the cow. In no case does the amount paid go down, it will either stay the same or go up. <sarcasm> Think of the convenience! </sarcasm> FAQ sums it up nicely: ^Bold Underline added by me.

Intel Core i9-10900K 10-Core Comet Lake-S Monster CPU Leaks With 5.1GHz Turbo Clock

In terms of hardware I care about FORWARD compatibility, not backwards compatibility. I was able to drop a Ivy Bridge into a P67 (sandy bridge) chipset. With my AMD Gigabyte X370 K5 I can run a Ryzen 1700 up through the new Ryzen 9 3950X on a board that came out around 3 years ago.

Tim Cook to Investors: People Bought Fewer New iPhones Because They Repaired Their Old Ones

This is the best approach. A phone is a tool to accomplish tasks. As long as it's effectively meeting that goal there is no need to replace it. I replaced my last phone at 2.5 years but only because there was something wrong with the hardware... The charging port would intermittently work...

    New Small Business Server suggestions

Dual Power supply and single hard drive with 16 GB RAM? That server config is all types of fucked. If you are responsible for the network/server infrastructure I'd be pissed if someone just bought a server without consulting you and basically said, "here's a server that Blake from Dell...

Tim Cook to Investors: People Bought Fewer New iPhones Because They Repaired Their Old Ones

Monthly payments are a suckers marketing ploy. They'll tell you yeah it's only 33 dollars a month for only 3 years! What they're really saying is it's just shy of $1200, but since the average American is weak in math skills they go along with it. If they just came out and told you the price...

Gamers hate the Epic Game Store but spent $680 million there anyway.

I don't like epic or their practices so I don't buy there or have their software installed. I mean that's how America works... They are welcome to try to compete and if consumers don't put up with their nonsense then they will go away. If they are successful then the consumers have decided as...

If you are on a fence if you should buy new RAM now or later...

Bought a 16 GB kit a few weeks back for when I upgrade to Ryzen 4000. The 16 GB kit will go in my current 7700K system which will go to the kids, the current 32 GB will get moved to the Ryzen.

    Intel still struggling with security

So what? Sounds like a good reason to sue Intel, not hide from the problem or try to sweep it under the rug. If I had a piece of medical equipment that gave faulty diagnoses/readings every so often and I was aware of it, the proper response is to replace or repair it, not ignore it because it...

AMD CPUs pass 20 per cent share milestone in Steam survey

10+ years is realistic for total life cycle IMO. Hardware gets passed down and generally goes like this. My Desktop -> KIds PC -> media center -> retired. Using an i5-2400 on my media center now. Probably will be there for at least 2-3 more years.

Youtube plans to join the ad extortion bandwagon...

I never paid YT a dime. I can still use their service. Try that with cable... Call them up and ask them for 10 years of service where you never directly pay them a dime. Yes YT has paid options, but they are options. Paying the cable company if you use their service is never an option, it's...

Youtube plans to join the ad extortion bandwagon...

Not the biggest fan of Google/YT but they aren't equivalent to cable. Cable is a subscription only service. You don't pay a dime to YouTube. Their fiscal models are different. Ultimately they have to support the servers, storage, staff, etc. and the money to do that has to come from somewhere...

GameStop stores are turning into retro gaming cafes.

    A) This is doomed to fail. Consoles are cheap. People have them at home already. Arcades and iNet cafes existed to serve a market that no longer exists. B) F them. Their corporate and consumer policies are horrendous. Opened "new" games. The constant upsell for their stupid member card...
