Silent, passive or nearly passive large ATX case

The muffled, sealed up, noise damping cases just choke off the airflow and make all your fans spin up to compensate. Get something with a mesh front and run 2 or 3 if the Noctua 140mm fans at low rpm and you can easily make your system silent.

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

What is it you regret? Do you feel like you over-built? Fortunately, I had most of what I needed already - apart from the PSU and cooler. I ordered the Platinum 750 direct from Corsair - it was more than it would be on Amazon but I have this minor worry/conspiracy theory that a lot of PC parts...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I think I'm fine with my 8700K + 16GB/4000Mhz RAM for a while. My main worry is how well my 1080Ti will work. When I built the RL08, I installed the GPU (with the ACXIII) in the top slot of the case and used two top mounted Noctua fans to push air onto the cooler. It was a total disaster and...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Thanks. that does make me feel better, but right now, I have 3 cases in my office: Cougar PanzerMax (my favorite EATX, high airflow beast case) Silverstone RL08 (a really good mATX, high airflow case - currently holding my mITX system) Ncase M1 V6.1 (still in the box) I love all 3 of these...

    LG 38GL950G - 37.5" 3840x1600/G-Sync/175Hz

That sounds right to me. I no longer get the static/EMI dropouts since I got the fibre optics cable. I've asked other people if they get this and it sounds like humidity may be a factor as well.

    LG 38GL950G - 37.5" 3840x1600/G-Sync/175Hz

Well, I was just sitting here, doing my job, connected to the HDMI input and with my office so quiet, I did hear the fan spin up. The weird thing is, there is only text based stuff up on both the DP (home) and HDMI (work) inputs. My room is maybe 76F - so I'm not sure why the fan would kick in...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I think my V6.1 is going to be delivered today - it's tracking around Austin. I feel really unprepared - mostly I need to get the PSU but I'm wondering if I shouldn't just keep it in the box until the 3080Ti is released My 1080Ti has the ACXIII installed - I know it will work, but I'm not sure...

Suggestions to run 3 QHD 32" displays on a laptop

I'm glad it's working for you - if I had half a braincell of self interest, I would have tried to sell you mine - my new work laptop came with one of those USB C docks with dozen connections (including 3 video ports) so mine is just sitting around lol. Even without the new dock, I ditched my...

Why do inexpensive highly reviewed "good" headsets all have trash mics?

Moving to a separate usb mic on a desktop stand was the best decision for me. It alwas works, it's super clear and now I'm free to look at headphones and not just gamery headsets. Also, people that don't use push-to-talk on discord are posessed by Satan and will spend eternity in hell. You...

    LG 38GL950G - 37.5" 3840x1600/G-Sync/175Hz

I stand corrected. However, it's not a feature I care enough about to pay for. Those 32" Ultimates are north of $3K - I'm sure they're great, but I'm extremely happy with this LG.

    LG 38GL950G - 37.5" 3840x1600/G-Sync/175Hz

If it had FALD, it would be a VA panel which would make it not an end game monitor. Also, I don't notice the vignetting. This monitor is great on a 1080Ti, but it will be astonishingly good with the next gen Nvidia cards. No regrats.

Interesting - that would probably make it less likely. I got my fiber optic cable on monday, but through a series of unfortunate miscalculations and missteps, my new monitor is delayed until Thursday. Still, since I experience this effect on my current monitors, I think I will install the...

I guess that's possible, where are the promotional units? If it's some short term promo, why would LG lower the price on their website? You don't usually do that for temporary price events. Yeah, now I'm stuck in this weird limbo of "I'm sure the new price will show up any day now" with no...

Need help with getting 5.1 sound from Z906 + Asus Xonar Essence STX

Why not just plug the 3.5mm jacks into the motherboard and skip the encoder / compression / latency? Most modern motherboards do a pretty good job with multi channel from their internal sound cards. I was surprised at how good mine was.

Anyone give up on PC Surround sound and just go stereo? Any regrets?

Well, I have not used multi channel sound for a good two months or so and so far don't really miss it (also, I stopped playing Overwatch which is one of the best surround sound games) The biggest challenge of a 2.1 system is bass management. An AVR can help with that, but I'm trying to get away...

Displayport: EMI/Static "blankout" and Fiberoptic cables

I'm fairly certain that the DP and HDMI specs have a little voltage for transceivers and repeaters. I think a lot of people have it and just assume it's a bad cable, power glitch, bad ground, static, etc. When you think about how much bandwidth a DP 1.4 connection needs, that communication...

Displayport: EMI/Static "blankout" and Fiberoptic cables

This has been a minor issue on just about every DP monitor I've had - I get minor, half-second blankouts if I shift or rub my feet in a way that builds up or discharges static - it also blanks out if I touch my metal KB casing and get a static shock. I have an LG 38GL950 coming on Monday and I...

    GeForce NOW Open for All

I wouldn't assume Nvidias motivation for doing this to be a face value interest and belief in the future of stream-gaming. I'm sure they're hedging their bets, but in my opinion, Nvidia sees themselves as the future of cloud/super/scalable/AI computing. This platform is a good nexus between...

Cliff Bleszinski openly admits going woke can hurt games.

Lawbreakers literally could not even run at 2560x1440 - the activation points in all the interface and menu items became broken and didn't match what the cursor was on. It deserved to fail.

    GeForce NOW Open for All

The Lindy Principle and I would like to completely disagree. Visuals are good for marketing, but it's gameplay that makes a game popular. The market is littered with beautiful, innovative games that were a failure. The reason home video games became a thing is because people didn't want to...

I used Lightboost on my VG248QEs back in the day and it was interesting, but I didn't love it - it seems to be tied in to some features of NV-3D but I'm not sure. I would like to know if this beast can do 3D? I have the 2nd Gen Nvidia 3D kit - have not used it in years, but it's fun to play...
