    Nintendo Switch

I haven't been able to crack the top 3 yet, but I'm loving the game. I definitely prefer d-pad for games like this until it REALLY picks up steam, but the hold-to-move thing gets faster at the end so it's not too bad. I can't complain too much, I've been enjoying it a lot.

GeForce Now for the NVIDIA SHIELD is Now Free

Been playing one of the Lego Batman games with my 4 year old on the shield in his bedroom. Performs WAY better than I expected, honestly, even over wifi. Some hiccups, but certainly not unplayable. I really should run Ethernet over to it, though.

GeForce Now for the NVIDIA SHIELD is Now Free

I really only use my Shield TV units as streaming media players and occasionally some of the Shield/Android games. I've been looking at emulation, but I haven't put any effort into it yet so as soon as I saw that GeForce Now was free I jumped on and checked it out. I was surprised at how well it...

At least this is safer than eating Tide Pods. Probably.

What driver specs to prioritize for nearfield listening?

Ah, money, the only WAF I really have to worry about. :/ I'll read his blogs, watch his videos, and build some boxes; see what I can do without breaking open every piggy bank in the house...

What driver specs to prioritize for nearfield listening?

I'm super lazy and was hoping to find where I'd get my best value for effort just by dragging the stupid foam bag around, but I'd need like 7' for 40hz at a quarter wave. I guess I'll just have to put in the work for my power corners and see where it takes me. I'll just start with my suspect...

What driver specs to prioritize for nearfield listening?

The foam is just to see if I can get it down AT ALL. The bag itself should serve as a sort-of limp mass resonator, though it certainly isn't something I'd be able to tune. I should really just fill the volume of the room except for my listening position with foam and just listen until I die of...

What driver specs to prioritize for nearfield listening?

It is absolutely the room and t's only intolerable on my left speaker which goes well beyond 400ms, where the other speakers it drops below my noise floor right around 300-320ms. I tested placement of my other speakers in the same position and got the same read. Now I just need to figure out...

What driver specs to prioritize for nearfield listening?

Small was a necessity before we bought the house we're in now. Here, though, I've got much more space available to me. As a stop gap I've built midbass modules and they're connected to LCR via separate amps and minidsp. Calibrated with REW and a umik-1. They actually sound really nice...

What driver specs to prioritize for nearfield listening?

Even a "basic" DIY that's basically a glorified puzzle is fine with me. If I spend my money on any DIY project it really should be on something flat/honest and loud/sensitive for my theater room. My SVS Ultra bookshelves/center are nice and all, but sensitive they ain't.

What driver specs to prioritize for nearfield listening?

I'm tempted to buy one of those kits just for funsies. I don't have any place for near-field listening AT ALL, but it seems like fun.

    New 2.1 desktop setup

I've got plenty to learn about milking the most out of my audio gear that's for sure. It seems like I've been doing more reading than listening since I started setting up my theater space in the new house. Eventually I'll be where I feel I'm using(my) end game equipment then it's just tweak...

    New 2.1 desktop setup

High ceilings in such a tight space have been horrible for me, especially in odd rooms with lots of windows. You have more experience with it than I do, but I would probably just burn the house down and start over if I had to deal with a room anything like that again. But I'm a quitter. I'm...

What driver specs to prioritize for nearfield listening?

I'd probably do the same thing. Who knows where the DIY rabbit hole will end up taking you. Getting your hands dirty is always great if you've got the patience and money. At worst(unless you roll a natural 1 and die) it costs you a few bucks and some time. At best you've taken the red pill and...

    New 2.1 desktop setup

Yikes. That's a room-treatment nightmare if you really plan on working in that space. Since it's a rental there's not a lot of permanent stuff you can do... You can try heavy curtains over the windows and some standing panels or diffusers to create boundaries, but those high ceilings aren't...

Classic Arcade Game 'Rampage' Made Into a Movie

I am definitely dragging as many of my friends as possible to see this movie as close to release as possible. I don't even care that it's going to be terrible. I hope I can get 40 of us in that theater together.

    Falling Out in VR

I'm with you. I definitely look where I'm shooting by moving my head instead of just moving my eyes around; I imagine they're using the footage they did just to prevent the demo video from being too difficult to track. If you watch, they miss an awful lot. It's not intuitive to play like that...

Had my Rift + Touch now for a few days.....

After marathon sessions I've just come out feeling... off. It's not necessarily vertigo, but I very much feel like I'm in a fog/tunnel vision and nothing is quite right. It's really interesting, but I have no idea what really causes it. It definitely got worse when I used headphones vs using...

    Best streaming device?

I absolutely love the Shield TV. I've got a pair of them. They're peppy, pretty, and if you run Plex they'll show Plex as an available source when you search for stuff. Plus it will pass Dolby Atmos/DTS:X audio if you've got an immersive surround setup.

Anyone else noticing Corsair AM4 Bracket leaving too much of a gap?

Didn't have any issues with the 110i I put on for a friend's build on a 1700X. Temps were low/normal, no troubles at load. It's used almost daily for video editing/encoding and hasn't encountered a problem since Ryzen launch. No idea why he wanted it under water, but I couldn't talk him out of...

    Oculus Touch Controller, trigger dampening

I didn't realize the controllers came with a sensor, I'll be picking up another set today just for the sensor/peace of mind. Heck, I've got a gift card that'll take it down the price of just the sensor anyway, so why the heck not. Also, to comment on the noise: That noise is annoying. RMA that...

    Home networking suggestions

I just ran a bunch of Ethernet drops around my house; I'd recommend the same if it's an option for you. Go with mesh/multiple WAPs instead of extenders for the sake of your sanity if WiFi signal strength is important for tablets/phones/mobile computing. If you've got plaster I'd probably go...

GeForce 256 Launched this Day in 1999

Man, that was my first "big boy" card that I ever bought for myself when I had JUST turned 18. I got the super cool Asus V6600 Deluxe with the video input capability. It came with the active-shutter 3D glasses, too. Hard to believe I was reading this site back then and I still use it as the...

Arris Modem Comes with Three Free Backdoors

Quite right, quite right. Good to know, although one of the methods above did allow me to access it in what appears to be a non-meaningful way on the face of it from off-site. ("it" being a cable modem/router combo from my provider that I've been meaning to replace anyway.)

Capcom Is Re-Releasing Street Fighter II on SNES Cartridges

Yep. I'd call it a CYA clause, especially with all the weird ass third party SNES devices out there that are basically just emulators. Plus an original SNES is an old ass piece of hardware, so who knows what kind of nonsense is going on in something you find in a basement or at a garage sale.

Hollywood, Apple Said to Mull Rental Plan, Defying Theaters

Pitched just means there's an angle, no idea why I chose that word instead of angled :D . I've got an AT screen so looks aren't a priority, but sound certainly is. If they sound like garbage but look good I'll be rebuilding. If they sound great but look like garbage they'll be hidden so I...

Hollywood, Apple Said to Mull Rental Plan, Defying Theaters

That's the stuff. I kept mixing it up in my mind with WinISD. I'm planning a build of a couple of mid-bass modules to power with my iNuke 3000DSP and kept getting everything jumbled in my brain. Too many damn part numbers, pieces of software, and specifications to keep straight in my head...

Hollywood, Apple Said to Mull Rental Plan, Defying Theaters

Indeed. This is my first major build, so I'm of course reading and reading and reading but eventually I have to start doing. I'll be building free-standing diffusion panels for the rear of the room and killing reflection points/behind the LCR. I'll take any advice into consideration that I...

Hollywood, Apple Said to Mull Rental Plan, Defying Theaters

That's more or less how I feel about it, too. I'm not mucking about with some Netflix-style streaming where I'll end up staring at a weird pixelated mess because their network is congested. Especially not at $50 per showing. Maybe they'll cater a bit to people like us, but I suspect we'll end up...
