Hmm, it apparently has a "Night vision" mode of sorts you could play with. Don't play rust but likely have to change settings.
My experience with MW2 and AW is I had to increase darkness specifically (HDR in game calibration). Only because it was actually too realistic, I wanted increased...
Actually never even looked into the OP topic until now but will answer.
AW3423DW owner for over a year now officially and have always wanted smoother gameplay along with some inky blacks. Comes with a 3 year burn-in warranty so will put to use when necessary. Monitors are a game of compromise...
Wow, looks like I'm ahead of everybody with a C6!
Still love this TV but it's sad 3D didn't actually become viable for home use until 4k panels came out. Maybe the new Avatar will result in new 3D tv's again. *Crossing fingers* though likely not happening =P
$1100 based on the video. Actually have had the AW for almost a year now but if all were available at the time, between all options my top 2 picks would be the DW & MSI.
For the few that use the AW secondary for the PS5 I am happy to say it finally supports HDR, 1440P, VRR, and 120hz simultaneously as of the current PS5 system update
This minus me checking for burn ins lol. I don't know about others but part of me wishes something does fail in about 4-5 years that way I have an excuse to "Upgrade" lmao
x34Predator (2015) - > AW3423DW(2022) -> That monitor is the only upgrade I'm going for lol. Not sure when but IMO that's the next iteration. When GPU's finally have DP2.0 is when I hope we start seeing them. . Also waiting for true gaming 27-32" 4k monitor to pair the AW with at the moment...
Primarily use the AW for PC with some console side duties. With the PS5 officially supporting 1440p, visually a much better experience now. So far my favorite HDR display for both PC and console now.
Super interested in how the same panel performs with Samsung vs Dell vs MSI when they finally all release. Haven't heard anything about MSI variant in a while
As you said, there is imperceptible difference in image quality pertaining to scenes like in COD. The x34(100hz max) is such an old panel though so when it comes to refresh and clarity, it's so lopsided on how clear the QD is.
Lack of UW support in PC gaming is so dumb especially nowadays...
- If black light bleed or lack of contrast doesn't bother you with your current panel, I don't think SDR content will be a substantial improvement to you especially if you typically use in lighted environment. That being said, HDR performance, if supported by the game/content you are watching is...
Yup, can confirm it works. HFW is somewhat odd though depending on what you choose for in game settings. VRR works for performance mode but seems to disable HDR. Resolution enables HDR but disables VRR. Can't remember about balanced.
Thanks for taking the plunge for us Odellus lol. Have HDR running all the time with "SDR" set to 8. That being said, same as you have not babied this monitor at all. No screensaver, display off etc. Have only interrupted the refresh thing a handful of times though.
As others have brought up, likely related to G-Sync. Make sure to change the setting to Full Screen only. Had a similar issue with a Photo Editing app (Hardware Acceleration) and that solved the issue for me.
Pertaining to VRR control. If this is anything like the G7, the setting was introduced in later firmware updates to combat "black flicker". While it does prevent the flicker, some would perceive increased stutter...
Rtings review officially out for all - https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/alienware-aw3423dw#page-test-results
Snipped some portions below but check out the site for more details
Tft didn't take any measurements though they did note PCmonitors uses the same method they do. That being said, you shouldn't be comparing input lag results between reviewers as the tests done are not "Standard". The best you can do is to compare the reviewer's result with other monitors...
IMO it's in LAN scenarios that such a thing would make the biggest difference. Online gaming, ping is still king and then there's just other variables. That being said, I understand those who want to have the best of the best but usually those people still complain about anything regardless...
For brightness, I'll update my post but it's mostly for people who like to blast theirs 250+nits as preference and/or due to room lighting scenario.
That video is taken with a N20 at 960FPS so it makes it more visible. In real time use, would say the bigger difference is in feeling and how much...
For my case usage, yes. I am still happy with 3440x1440p along with wanting high refresh. My original set-up of 4790 & 980ti with the x34 was just fine but obviously even back then would need to turn down settings. In 2020 updated to 5900x/3080 combo which was finally able to utilize x34 to it's...
True, but I think the publications need to be contacted otherwise they wouldn't know. Because how about things such as VRR/Gsync/Free-sync on/off during these tests among other things. Just recently Rtings included these but moving forward, think it needs to be a staple for other as well. That...
It could, but if you're getting an OLED bright lighting scenarios is somewhat already a known thing to keep an eye on.
Is this from an official source or just hearsay? If Dell is having trouble getting these out, surprised BB would have any. Which makes me wonder when and if Samsung will...
Seems like majority of owners here are just enjoying their monitor/panels. Looking at all the reviews, primarily YT, it's interesting to see how others perceive the technical data and subjective portions.
This is the larger variant though I assume the 42" would be similar? Linked below pertaining to gaming portion the next part in gaming starts at about 6:30
The test is valid and "proper". There are a lot of us who use Gsync/Adaptive Sync.
That being said, hopefully you get your non-gsync results as well since that is also valid.
Matches my initial impression of the monitor as well. Works fine for my "competitive" needs though I assume most would be using a 16:9 for said scenarios. Curious if Dell can fine tune the processing delay and how the G8 will handle this. That being said, have basically swapped over gaming/FPS...
Nothing too scientific but sharing some findings with my prior monitors recorded with N20U "Ultra Slow" capture. For MW19/Vanguard, between the G7 and AW I'd go with the AW.
x34 (2015) vs AW at native 3440x1440p resolution
Aw3423DW vs X34 Predator(2015) Capped @60FPS/Max Hz COD Vanguard...
Attaining high refresh is of course preferred but with OLED and Gsync this baby is smooth. Only clarity is diminished when you start getting lower FPS of course.
