Well drat. I'm sorry I wasn't able to do this troubleshooting earlier. The silver ones gave a ton of memtest errors running with the gold ones but perhaps if we went at it backwards with CMOS cleared do the silver first and then add the gold to the silver they might have adjusted...
Thank you again. Darn oh well my return period was almost up so I shipped them this morning else I would have tried this. Question : since the sticks are all identical (same model/specs/timings) why is it that your idea would work? Not doubting the idea - just trying to learn. I realize...
A huge thanks to everyone. You guys are always graciously helpful.
I took the silver kit out and put back in the gold kit and it was able to boot again.
I'm sending the silver kit back. Too many problems to track down and they all go away once there is no silver RAM in the PC
I removed the silver sticks out of both PCs and ran memtest for 10 hours on both with just the 4 gold sticks in each one. No errors so far.
So the two gold kits may be good.
Then I removed the set of 4 gold sticks from one PC I put the kit of 4 silver sticks in and it only boots to a black...
memtest in progress:
on the original PC it has 28 errors so far, 6hrs into it
I also have a 2nd PC with similar MB, same CPU and same RAM situation as original - a matched kit of 4 gold sticks plus 2 silver sticks added later. This one has more errors already.
Each of the two PCs got a matched...
Thank you. The AIO blocks a slot which caused me to use the 6 slots/channels I'm using. I added more memory because of "seems like a good idea" since I am using this for 3ds max renders and 4k video editing and wanted to buy the same RAM while it was still available versus waiting til all...
Hello.
I bought this RAM
https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-128gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232965?Item=N82E16820232965
and it has been working great for 2+ years
Recently I bought another set of the silver version of it...
Thank you again. interestingly the PC has been running at high loads during renders without the one cable connected since I bought it...
I'll check the other cable to see if it matches before plugging the disconnected one in.
Can the GPU plug into 3 of those 8 pin ports too? That would mean...
Thank you yes at the time I ordered the PC there were almost no AIO options so it came with that 360 one which covers 1 of the RAM slots so I cannot install 8 sticks. I bought another set of 4 sticks recently and added 2 to this threadripper and 2 to my other threadripper so they both have 6...
Thank you. That makes sense. It should have both 8 pin cables connected in addition to the 24 pin, but one of the 8 pin was left disconnected for some reason.
The only thing it says is 34-0 and 00277 on the PSU end. It goes around the back and ends up plugging into the top left of the MB. Looks like a matching one plugs into the top right of the MB. So it appears only the top right one is actually connected to both PSU and MB whereas the cable in...
I do not want to OC.
3 cables like this?

Thank you. While on this subject, since I originally received my PC it has the boot message attached below. And there has always been a cable not connected. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be connected or what the deal is. The GPU shipped and installed in the pic is RTX 3060 though I am...
Hello.
I have this:
PSU: Corsair RM Series RM850 80 PLUS
CPU: Threadripper 3970X (280watts)
192GB 3200Mhz RAM
Several SSD drives
I want to install this GPU: RTX 4080 (320watts)
Apart from not having a native power connector do you think it will work? Or should I get another PSU that is ATX...
Hello. I have 2 PCs, one has this motherboard: PRIME TRX40-PRO S
The other has this motherboard PRIME TRX40-PRO.
I bought a 128GB RAM set for each PC. Working great.
G.SKILL Trident Z Royal Series 128GB (4 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16Q-128GTRG...
Well. I did a fresh install onto an SSD via IDE adapter. Got Win98SE installed and started installing some drivers. All seemed well. Now it hangs at "Verifying DMI Pool Data" on boot and it will not boot to windows anymore, though it did numerous times earlier. If I boot to floppy it...
I have 2 Win98 PCs. One is a P3 and the other a P2. Besides CPU they have much different hardware GPU, sound, monitors, ATA card, etc.
Can I hardware bit by bit clone the C: from the P3 and install it in my P2 and once booted install the correct drivers?
Or will that cause damage to my...
Victoria actually detected and identified the drive (WD 40GB) and has been attempting a test and repair for about 12 hours so far. attached is screenshot
Unless I'm missing something Victoria seems to only work on XP and up?
Or can I run Victoria on a newer machine and attempt to connect the IDE drive via a dock?
Don't know if I added this or not but the c: IDE drive in the WIN98SE machine does spin. I can hear it and feel it move, but the data cannot be accessed via anymeans I've tried so far. I think maybe MBR problem?
Unfortunately I hurt disks in my lower back getting it out from under the desk on...
Thank you. The Win98SE machine had 3 IDE drives in it C, D E. My external hardware dock has a direct port (no adapter) for IDE as well as SATA port that outputs USB cable to a connected computer. Drives D and E are thus accesible via that USB cable to connected Win7 computer. But when I try...
Thank you. The old 98 PC had 3 IDE drives in it. SpinRite did work fine on the other IDE drive (E:>) I tried it on, using freeDos. After the black screen above that shows freeDos and initdiskIllegal it launches Spinrite program. When you select the drive in spinRite it goes to another screen...
The c:> says this when I boot "initdiskillegal partition table - drive 00 sector 0"
Spinrite won't seem to work on it, it seems to hang on "working" for 40+ hours.
I put the drive in a startech external IDE / SATA dock connected to newer PC and windows beeps like it connected but I cannot...
ahhh... thank you. I might better back off this SSD conversion. The 120GB SSD arrived and adapter but I haven't installed it yet.
Tonight I found a PATA IDE SSD which I didn't know existed.

Yes I think 450Mhz was the fastest P2. I seem to recall that the P3 started at 450Mhz and went to 500Mhz and much faster (~800?) P4 was like 3.2Ghz? I can't remember and I think my Matrox machine is a P4
LOL I wish. I'm pretty much an idiot compared to the smart people on this excellent forum. As I took my PC apart it occurred to me, "hey why don't I ask on the hard forum"
so here I am again :)
Thank you. No I haven't heard of that. I just ordered a converter to try to connect and copy off the IDE to SSD. If the drive won't read I might order Spinrite since $89 is worth not having to spend all the time doing a new install of my OS, software, drivers. I wish I'd thought to clone...
Just in case the old system drive is working enough to copy it off and thus save a lot of time, do you think this cable will allow me to connect the old IDE drive to my windows 7 or windows 8 PC and copy the entire drive off and then copy it onto a new drive...
Also, if you don't mind, while I have it apart, my old DVD ROM drive physically broke, so maybe I can replace it with something that works and has a Win98SE driver?
Thankfully it still has a working CD-ROM drive so I can install from
Hello. My (once mighty) Pentium II MMX 450Mhz HDD apparently has failed. It booted to Windows 98SE splash screen and then said bad sectors detected. I rebooted and it said disk not found select boot. So I guess the main drive has failed again. The system drive is a WD Caviar SE 40GB model...
Thank you everyone. I removed and re-inserted the USB header cable from the motherboard. Pins looked straight. The keyboard and mouse both now work ( yay! ) but portable USB drives are inconsistant, meaning if I wiggle it just a tiny bit it might connect and work or it might disconnect from...
