Oh my freaking god So I put in the DVI cable instead of DIsplay port, left the nvidia card in, and it is now loading windows to install.... WOW

Yes, I'm pretty sure. It shows up in the bios as Optiarc DVD RW. And it does show up in the boot up screen, along with my blank Intel SSD. I am fairly certain it does work, it's brand new. I actually bought it as temp to see if it was the drive. I was original using a Pioneer BDR blue ray...

So I tried the method you suggested nitrobase, and that doesn't work. I pressed F11 during POST, and left the boot screen there. But the optical drive does not turn green or the disc doesn't spin. Ido notice that the optical drive light turns on when i first turn on the computer tho.

I actually tried that once, but i immediately went to the drive. I'll have try it again later on. A friend of mine is letting borrow another pci-e card later on too, so I'll be able to try that.

So Supermicro recommends I RMA the board. Just sent in a RMA request.

this is the firwst time booting this machine, just built it. havent been able to install anything cause it won't boot off anything including a usb stick. calling supermicro tech support... this is so frustrating.

Ok so I removed all my add on cards except my video cards... still no luck. I am going to see if booting from a travel drive will work.

I have extra pci-e cards, should i take them out and just leave my graphics card?

Ok so I tried an LG CH08LS10 blu ray drive AND a cd-r for the firmware, and still NOTHING.

I also just tried not putting my SSD hd in the boot order, and that didn't do anything. Going to go to Fry's now and buy a DVD drive and come blank CD's.

So I removed/swapped some memory dimms, nothing still.

Nope, everything is default at the moment, which is IDE. Would it matter if I chose AHCI?

Just got my 2 nec screens, but it will be a little while before I can set them up as I am still waiting for parts of my new workstation to come in.

So I ordered the SSD from Amazon for $479 on Dec 25th with free shipping + no tax, and to make a long story short: they have delayed the shipment twice now (3 days on first, 2 days for the second), but the great thing is, they gave me free one day shipping and reduced the price to $459 for me...

I think for now I will hold off on buying a raid controller. I think what I will do is just get 4 hitachi 7k1000.c 1tb drives (use raid5 instead of 10) and stick with the 2 intell ssds and see how they fair up in the mobo raid controller. And if later on, if I get more drives, I will get a raid...

Thanks for the suggestion guys. I am leaning more towards the NEC, especially since the HDMI problem can be solved with DVI and the 1080 not being 1200 is maybe something I can let pass considering all the pro's. I'll hopefully make a decision by the end of the day to see what others say!
