A bit of info on the SP4 not having thunderbolt or any kind of pci-e out (well, the SB 99% has, in the base-to-tablet connector, but yeah):

Always wanted one of these... 8740w with the DC2 panel.
...wish HP/Dell/etc'd stayed away from the MBP-style designs with the recent generations... + full-size keyboards, 16;10 screens, you name it.
Hello,
First, specs:
HP 8740w
Quad-core motherboard (whatever the difference is, can't find anything on pics besides model number)
i7-820QM
4x4GB DDR3-1333 (tested with 2x2GB, 2x4GB, different slots, etc, as this laptop used to have a problem with 4DIMMs back in the days apparently, doesn't...
Since the volume is quite small anyways, I guess it'll mostly depend on whether you'd like a square or a bar :)
Didn't really expect the width to be that much.. Is the video card you're using particularly thick or something?
I guess you could go cheaper with a z77 board/CPU, because since you'll be clocking the performane difference shoud basically disappear from the K-series chips (ivy tends to clock better, mostly due to a lack of on-die VRM I think). You'll be losing the upgrade path to broadwell, if you ever...
Thanks for the heads-up :)
Putting the build on hold for a week or two, as the new semester just kicked in and I want to power through the material (yup, not the lectures guy).
Preliminary budget and parts list:
Motherboard - Z77E-ITX 115eur
CPU - i5 3570 155eur
Cooler - Noctua l9i - ~50eur
RAM - Anything will do for a start (planning on putting 16g in the end), my home PC has 2x4GB so I can just get one of the sticks and use it until some nice deal on a 2x16GB drops...
Thanks for pointing these out! I don't think I'll be going down that route (due to reasons mentioned below), but it'd be nice to put a sticky in the SFF section of the forum with links to all sorts of SFF components that are not an obvious find :)
About the undervolting - I have, I've...
Things are starting to get tricky with the PSU...
The DC-DC converter plus AC-DC brick route seems to be quite a bit more expensive than the SFX/Flex ATX power supplies (Andromeda x51 dc-dc board + dell's XM3C3 brick will cost me at least something like 200$ alone by the looks of it), while not...
Try adding some kind of exhaust fans to the PSU cutout and to the front side of the VGA, I guess. Still, the CPU temps look really good for that setup... mostly the GPU and the PSU I'm worried about :D
The X51 supports a 4770 + a GTX670, but I have no ideas about the O/C part, and by the looks...
I just saw a thread on chiphell of a build that uses the noctua l9i cooler without any dremeling, with the Z87E-ITX - a very nice board (in terms of audio quality, features, overall performance, etc). I guess it will be a z87 after all, since I can't find too much in-depth info on other...
With blender it's always like that, however I can use my current desktop remotely as a render farm if I need to. As for using an i3 instead then - 2 more cores are a bigger improvement than 4 more threads, and games are already using 4 cores in some cases :)
About the M350 case - exactly what I was looking at first :)
My idea was to cut a hole in that case for a riser cable and 2x6-pin pci-e power cables, to provide easy installation for an external GPU, if needed, which kind of means that It'll be nice to have an external GPU enclosure, and since...

Thinking of building a gaming/performance m-ITX that can fit in a small carry-on bag sufficiently easy - something like two 15'' laptops stacked on top of each other.
I guess you already guessed that the case will most likely...
Any info on pre-calibration, gamut, bit depth, etc? Last time I checked there were lots of hi-rez panels out there that didn't even cover the full sRGB gamut... Not much of a rival in that case :)
Also, mandatory b#$#-ing about 16:9. The resolution is very nice, but it's not exactly a 27''...
Let's see..
HL2: Lost Coast (free on steam)
Just about any source engine game, save for the latest (at least it's locked on cs:go)
Oblivion (I think skyrim as well, skyrimprefs.ini)
Far Cry 1
Probably a @#$#ton of more, but those should suffice.
This is not a feature of the display, you...
Guess we're all learners :)
It's HDR, that's a game feature.
Basically emulates the way the human eye/real-life optical systems work in terms of adjusting exposure (adaptation to light levels).
Your monitor is fine.
EDIT:
If you wanna see how it works...
Didn't want to bring my PC for studying abroad (eindhoven), so here's my makeshift setup:
Still playing with the 4870's bios as the dock doesn't seem to be supplying the full 75w via the PCI-E cable, right now sitting at 725/750/1.083v. I know that the HD4k series are very bad with...
That would be nice, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to drive that kind of display in the near future, esp. with a 4870 that doesn't have displayport / the power to run anything at that resolution.
Hello,
I've got a pretty beefy setup back home, but I decided that I won't be bringing it over to Eindhoven (except for the keyboard/mouse), and now I'm using my T400 laptop for the university. However, a high DPI TN screen is not a very pleasant thing to work it when looking at it from far...
So, I've got a dilemma...
Right now I've got a T400 with the following:
c2d p8400
GMA4500 & Radeon 3470 (switchable)
4GB DDR-3
1440x900 6-bit terrible TERRIBLE TN panel
9-cell 84wh battery, holds about 84% charge, lasts long enough
2x120gb HDDs (one in ultrabay)
Advanced Dock with PCI-E...
Main setup:
Scraped together over the years. Samsung speakers salvaged from a XQ-100, attached to SA-GX690. I'd say the oldest components besides the desk at this point are the PC case, the 80gig HDD (^_^), and the amp (older than me, probably). And yes, the abyssus does jitter :/
Now...
Sorry if this has been explained before, but I couldn't get any info on it by searching, so it's mostly my speculations for now.
A friend of mine got a PA246Q recently and he just noticed several pixels that, when viewed from an angle, change their color from whatever to red to green to blue...
@ Myramond - Thanks for the info :)
I'm interested, with one little problem - I live in Bulgaria and I guess shipping might be "a bit" problematic. If it's in Europe I should be able to arrange for a transport a bit more easily. Even better if it's in London, as I've got a friend there for...
Can anybody confirm that it's safe to get one of these?
