Looking for (ideally) a motherboard and CPU combo, possibly with some RAM.
Want to get an idea of what I would pay used as opposed to shelling out for new stuff.
Have to replace a Synology NAS (with non-Synology hardware) and want to keep the outlay as low as possible.
- Form factor could be...
I'm seeing that there are decent discounts on end-of-life Ryzen 5000 series CPUs.
When I built my AM4 based system, back when the 5000 series were coming out, I ended up getting a 3800XT due to pricing and availability.
It's been a great chip but I'm wondering whether now might be the time to...
I have an open chassis rig with Asus Z590-P
2 x Antec Signature 1300 PSUs
Three GPU plus MB on PSU1
1 GPU on PSU2
Antec OC Link cable connects both PSUs
I have had the machine running fine for 12 months on 1 PSU
added a fourth GPU on a PCIe riser connecter which has a USB connector back to a...
Aaand that's why I love this place. Thank you Domingo - this totally fixed my problem.
Also cool to be able to change the default audio and subtitle tracks so that I don't have to change them each time I pull up a file.
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately not, checked that - files were not R only.
Also un-ticked the box windows uses to BLOCK files which come from another computer.
User account is a member of local administrators group.
No weird ownership issues, has to be something else.
I've been trying to update the metadata for some video files to tidy up my video library.
My normal process would be to right-click on the file in Windows Explorer and select PROPERTIES
That should bring up the tried 'n' tested dialog box which has been about the same since... hmmm... Windows...
After playing around this weekend (which involved fitting a heatsink to the Samsung EVO 97) PLUS SSD which is installed in the M2 slot underneath the mobo (with zero airflow), I was able to drop my drive temps from 53C to 43C at idle. This, combined with the memory voltage tweaks and an upgrade...
It seems to be idling at around 1.09v, so I will try 1.1V to begin with and then 1.2V
DRAM voltage is set to 1.3V but is being reported at 1.38V in the status window to the right.... going to see how it goes for a bit
Thanks for all the suggestions!
This would be CPU VCORE SOC correct?
Yeah, me too. Just don't need the aggravation of trying to do a clean install at the moment when most of the contents of my office and my apartment are buried in storage, including physical copies of software with needed license keys :(
I rebuilt my office PC over the winter, and have gone from having a rock solid PC which I didn't even think about to something that's become a flaky, neurotic, needy mess.
I went through several iterations of mini ITX motherboard - I changed from my old Asrock ITX to a Gigabyte...
Thanks! I think it can often come down to the network provider - the LG Stylo 3 plus from MetroPCS wasn't too bad. There's a nag screen that comes up every now and then to get with "MetroPCSworld" but that's about it.
I'm hoping to get some recommendations for a decent used Android phone I can pick up either in the forums or on fleaBay.
I've been an iPhone user for over ten years now and have lost touch with what is worth having and what isn't.
I'm looking to spend as little as possible, ideally $20 or less...

pendragon1 - I left XMP enabled but dropped the memory multiplier to 32x which should bring it largely back into spec. I'm not too worried about the last ounce of performance, so I'm going with default XMP timings, but if it's now within the Ryzen's memory controller's capabilities, maybe...
pendragon1 - Soooo, I enabled XMP profile1 this evening, and lo and behold.... *pouff*.... unscheduled reboot.
...which is annoying. Because I rebuilt this machine too many times for it to be a stupid memory problem. Ugggghhhh.
Screenshot attached of memory timings and onboard voltages:
pendragon1 - Haven't got back to that part yet, will give it another week, make sure I have no reboots and then re-enable XMP and report back.
<EDIT> 3 days and no reboots so far... I'm thinking it's going to be fine. Should be enabling XMP soon.</EDIT>
After three weeks (and experiencing some weird USB quirks, allegedly fixed in F12), I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to F13 bios. It's been tweaked and revised a couple of times and is currently F13C. It's five months newer than the F10 BIOS my board has currently.
Now that I know...
48 hours with no reboots so far.
<EDIT> One week and still not a single reboot</EDIT>
Going to leave well alone and resist the urge to upgrade from F10 to the F13a bios update which came out last week...
<EDIT> Still resisting... will wait another week or two </EDIT>
If anyone has...
Okay, after several days of dicking around I have a new motherboard. Tried to replace the GB with an Asrock (same brand I had previously which was flawless and worked perfectly as a Hackintosh), however, the SATA ports are at 90 degrees fo the plane of the motherboard (they point sideways...
I've seen it happen both with XMP enable and disabled, I believe. Will test that in more depth once I have the replacement.
The 3800XT is unlocked - allows easier overclocking for a modest price premium ($5-10ish), as well as a slightly higher Max boost clock than the 3800X (4.7Ghz vs 4.5Ghz)
Ugggh, sorry, late night brain fade - actually not the RAM but the motherboard instead. Seems like there might be quality control issues:
Good to know, thank you - I may try that, however I’m digging further and going through reviews on Newegg, I see a 4* review by Garrett and a 2* review by Daniel which mention exactly the same issue. Garrett reports his replacement worked fine, so, given that I’m working B&H’s Xmas return...
Memory voltage was set to auto. System is completely stock, no overclocking currently
Thanks to both of you for the memory suggestion. I’ve disabled the XMP memory profile I enabled a couple of weeks back (3600mhz) and am now running at default clocks of 2138.70Mhz 🙄

I have a pair of sticks, recently removed from my desktop. Works fine, not one known issue since installing. Recently upgraded to 16GB.
This machine is left on 24/7, and these sticks are probably 5yrs old.

Just to give y'all some respite from GTX3080/3090 woes, I was wondering if anyone could recommend what they think the best bang for buck would be for an artist friend who needs a VGA upgrade.
Currently, I can find a few used GTX960 or GTX770 cards on fleabay for around $35, including some tasty...
