I have this chassis http://www.supermicro.nl/products/chassis/4U/846/SC846XE26-R1K28.cfm?parts=SHOW
It is equipped with two redundant PSUs and a power distibutor with four slots. Two occupied by the PSUs and two others free for any battery backup power. In the latter it is possible to...
My media server (update 4)
TOTAL STORAGE: 52 TB (34.7 usable)
Chassis: Supermicro CSE-846XE26-R1K28B
Mainboard: Asus Crosshair V Formula Z
CPU: AMD FX-8370
RAM: 2x Crucial Ballistix Elite DDR3-1866-8GB
VGA: Asus EAX1950XTX
HBA: Adaptec RAID 5805ZQ
Cache: Samsung SSD 850 Pro MZ-7KE256BW
I tried the controller 5805 in another system. I had only connected two HDD in RAID1. The system HDD was connected to the SATA controller integrated into the motherboard (in my system instead also system HDD are managed by the controller).
With this configuration, the idle HDD not turned back...
This is a disappointing response from Adaptec:
Greetings from Adaptec by PMC!
Thank you for your message. Unfortunately your RAID card is behind the complimentary support period since August 2010. Any further technical assistance for this controller would require a fee of 80USD payable by...
I have a problem with the power management with the controller Adaptec RAID 5805.
During inactivity the HDDs will be turned off according to the policy set in ASM, but the HDDs cyclically spin up again without any request from the system.
To be sure that there was no activity on the...
I fear the possible drop-out of the HDD from the array.
Are the Caviar Black HDD sensitive to these issue?
I don't want to risk it, otherwise I take the enterprise HDD.
Unfortunately the Deskstar only have two years warranty as opposed to five of the Caviar Black.
My disks are SATA and attached directly to the controller (5805).
But again the problem occurred only on (04-23-2010) FW/Driver 17899 + ASM 6.50.18570 and newer.
With previous versions (11-18-2009) FW/Driver 17544 + ASM 6.40.18530 everything was perfect.
Starting with version 6.50.18570, ASM reactivates the HDD 10 minutes after their power-off.
Disable the "Advanced Statistics" does not solve the problem.
After several tests I could:
1) Disable the "Intelligent Power Management". Obviously I will not do.
2) install the older version...
The HDD space wasted by files that do not occupy completely the requisite cluster (the firsts are full, unlike last probably will not be) can not be reused by other files. Then wasted space is independent of the size of the stripe, but rather depends on that of the cluster.
For volumes with...
My 3 HDD all have:
S / N: WD-WMATV2411xxx
Date: Jul 2009
I can not tell you the complete MDL why should I dismantle the huge stack of 8 HDD from the case.
WDTLER works perfectly with these HDD, when connected in IDE mode, to a MB nVidia...
The three front fans are 80mm/2500rpm.
With SpeddFan I can keep the HDD to an acceptable temperature.
Unfortunately, since I use a RAID controller, I can't monitor the temperature of the HDD, so I refer to the temperature of the NB.
The temperature of the NB tends to rise due to heating...
What I had to do to install 8 HDD in an ATC-201:
I mounted a third 80mm fan over those existing in the HDD bay.
I removed the sliding tray and it took me a canvas forell black.
I removed those hateful fins that protrude inside the HDD bay.
To improve the passage of air between...
