Unless you sport L-class glass (a professional lens) ... paying heaps for a professional filter is silly.
The protective benefits of any UV(0) at the coast (or in the bush) ... far outweigh that of the optics.
The glare-cutting benefits of any Circular Polariser far outweigh the minute...
It would be rather nice if the releases of CPU, RAM and chipsets could somehow be
magically syncronised to mature almost simultaneously before moving to newer tech.
I mean it almost feels like a three-phase power voltage diagram, all the components mature
in effeciency and performance at...
I'm starting to think the R&D cycles in the video industry are way shorter and more reactive,
which means that not even ATI nor nVidia know what they will be doing in 12 months time!
:D
Nehalem ... Penryn's successor is called Nehalem (due in 2009), we even know that Nehalem
should be followed by Gesher due in roughly 2011.
If only the video boys would pull finger and give us an idea of what to expect. :(
Where can I find sufficiently accurate (and sufficiently detailed) technology roadmaps for both
ATI and nVidia?
I guess what I mean is: does anyone know, with some degree of certainty, when both
companies are going to have mid-range offerings on the shelves sporting 45nm technology?
Thanks Guys! Teh [H] delivers once again! ;)
I shall spend sparingly on the CPU, MOBO, RAM and GPU this time round...
... and instead spend my budget on a decent chassis, 24" LCD, sweet HDDs etc.
Then perhaps check out the scene this time next year for those four items.
I have trawled through THE Memory FAQ, and googled up some benchmarks ... and
didn't see anything that clearly and concisely answers my question.
The Predicament
I am plotting and scheming to shell some heavy wads of my hard-earned green towards
setting my trusty old crate (PIII-1GHz, 512MB...
I own the following tackle:
Canon EOS20D
Canon EF-S 17-85mm F/4-5.6 IS USM
Canon Speedlite 580EX
And I can give you letter with a police stamp on it ... the pop-up flash is SHITE!
Believe me, if you get a Gary Fong diffuser, and a REAL flash ... you will not believe the results! ;)
He He He ... yep that's what a career change does for you ... one minute you're modding
the darkest ally on the [H] the next IceCzar launches a non-hostile coup! :D
Seriously though Artwerkers, IceCzar is DA BOMB! He just a
damn swell chap I am happy to hand him the Key to the Citadel of...
Hmmm, the first part of that sentence has a great deal of truth to it. Art is a luxury, and in
times of cash droughts the first way to tighten the belt is to cut on advertising and brand
pimping. Also note that having ph33r4bl3 skillz in Photoshop is to Graphic Design what
Ballboy is to...

Not a major change (had to dump the text since I don't have Microgramma installed) but I
think shading is just a tad sleeker!
Sorry, I don't have heaps of time I would have liked to have spent a day or two on this just
to show what can be done with some...
Great to see a another Corel user. When you're finished with the new image (let's pray
that it's the super sleek USS Voyager) PM me a link to the CDR and I'll lay down some
CorelDraw11 goodness on it. ;)
It may also be that the program uses the JPEG2000 spec ... which is not backward
compatible with the standard JPEG standard ... but performs much better. ;)
Hmmm, I am the White Dwarf in the Galaxy of Mods, Super Mods and Admins, I
moderate a forum that about three [H]ard|Forum members know exists, Lethal
(She is the [H]ard|Forum equivalent of Sauron's All-Seeing Eye), MajorDomo and Moi! :D
Born: 10 Oct 1976

Oi oi oi ... what is the world coming to. :(
First, corrupting any file is about as hard as tying your shoelaces! :p
Second, as a lecturer I can assure you that educators know every excuse in the book! I
mean I did something similar by writing (with a permanent marker) on a 360K floppy...
Lethal: you are wholly correct in stating that you apply some sharpening algorithm when
reducing the size of a raster image. This however points to exactly what I have said before,
namely that, due to resolution loss fine detail diminishes (i.e. loss of image data).
However it is important to...
The long answer is: Yes :D
Fig. 1
Resolution vs. Dot-pitch
Resolution is the number of sample points in a sample, this can be applied to any
data set, be it the linear samples of mono audio, or the planar samples of raster images.
Dot pitch is the relation between the sample-points...
I lecture VB, Java and Internet Tech ... and I can tell you there is no surefire way to teach
an artform. Some people understand flow charts, some love IPO charts, some prefer UML
models, some even perve over pseudo-code.
I like to conquer the following topics in the indicated order:

Not quite ... especially not the way you're reasoning.
Your proposition: old → crap
A logical fallacy since it is easy to show many exceptions that invalidate your proposition.
Our Earth is roughly 4.5 billion years old, and your by your reasoning crap, I can promise
you that it's...
@ Ezteh, I have corrupted you! I almost thought I posted that, I mean you even have the bold headings! :D
@ Lethal, freakin' amen ... if you want to do vector illustration, use Illustrator (or in my case CorelDraw)! ;)
Let us then both kneel before the shrine of JASC and Adobe and pray:
"Please do not let Corel Corporation violate the special niche PaintShopPro has carved
for itself in the market by adding 'bloatware' features and tampering with the simple to use
interface. Instead let them focus their...
Don't get me wrong chaps, I'm not minding any of your preferences, au contraire, I thank
the stars of free choice and fair trade that you as consumers are exersizing your rights
to support software vendors that make tools that fit your preferences.
I'm just warning that no true artist...
Why do Americans believe so strongly in the Highlander line "There can be only one!"?
Is the eleventh commandment: "Thou shalt support only Adobe and Alias|WaveFront"?
Different strokes for different folks. Most professional 3D tools do the tasks that the
average "professional" user...
How are Corel going to screw up PaintShop? Everyone seems perfectly happy with
former MetaCreations products. Besides ... how would a producer of software with a
bigger function set screw up a software product with a much smaller function set?
Just before we start:
All participants of this thread have to concede that this is a nonsensical debate.
Decent argument fodder there fatbob_158 (interesting read).
Some obvious points raised by Jason711, Vulcanus, lomn75 ("rendezvous" is French
and "Edinburgh" is Scottish) require...
Why, if the J's in Jiffy, Jill and Jim are pronounced "dj", and the G's in Gift, Gills and Gimp
are pronounced "gh", should we say "jiff" for a GIF!?
What next ... should we play a round of "Jolf"? ;)
