New BIOS update for Asus H270 mobo

All Intel CPUs in last 10 yrs have critical bug to show protected kernel memory areas

Thank you. I have 3 Skylakes and 1 Kabylake that I'm about to replace as soon as Ryzen APU is out. I won't even bother with the "patches". I even pressed my AMD FX-8350 back into service, feels nice & toasty right about now, lol. Also, I never liked the stupid Intel mobo pins that bend if you...

CPU Usage Differences after Applying Meltdown Patch at Epic Games

A Massive Intel Hardware Bug May Be on the Horizon

I switched to Intel because of the lack of high-end AMD ITX boards and look where it got me -- all my Intel machines now have defective/vulnerable CPUs. I like your under-the-desk vs. on-the-desk comparison. On-desk ITX being closer to the user you also get more noise from spinners, so you have...

And the last one, a Q07 with i5-6500, an HTPC for the living room. A TV replacement operated by remote control, idles at 15W at the wall. It's tucked behind the screen so you can barely see it, only access is for the power button & USB3 ports. Just like the Q03 and Q11 above, it's a Linux...

Best Way to Buy and Test New Hard Drives?

Failure is more statistical than testable. So an initial test-OK may be statistically insignificant. I'd do dd & cmp a 500GB image and listen for excessive vibration and weird "clonk" & parking sounds.

Why is new i7-7700K hitting 100C under load?

It's worse than mine, I'd return it to Intel. I already told you (above in post #10) that it will overheat with ANY heatsink.
  37. R

Why is new i7-7700K hitting 100C under load?

You have to add your labor to that, unless you consider your time to be worthless. In the end it becomes a $1000 cpu without warranty. For most of us delidding and plumbing are out of the question. AMD CPUs are soldered, so you have a better option.
  38. R

Why is new i7-7700K hitting 100C under load?

New CPUs make very little heat, my i7-7700 ITX idles at 15W at the wall. Today's technologies are more efficient at any workload compared to CPUs from 10+ yrs ago. The i7-7700 is no exception, problem is the laws of thermodynamics, it's a smaller die = smaller surface for heat transfer + the IHS...

Why is new i7-7700K hitting 100C under load?

I'm using a Noctua NH-L9x65 for my i7-7700. It works but this i7-7700 runs ~10 degrees hotter than both my i7-6700. I think Kaby lake heats up quickly and is very slow to shed heat, it will do that with ANY heatsink.
