Who's Happy So Far with Ryzen 3000 Series?

This is a lesson in making assumptions. I pay about $.15 per KWh and I do in fact run the CPU at 100% load around the clock. When I'm not playing games, my PC is used for mining crypto. This was a significant consideration for upgrading, because the hashrate and hash / watt are both much higher...

Who's Happy So Far with Ryzen 3000 Series?

I went from a 2500k to an r5 1600x, and now have a 3600. The jump to the 3600 is way bigger. I feel it was well worth the $200 cost to replace the 1600x, and over time the electricity savings will help offset some of that. I have a custom loop with an old swiftech block that used to cool the...

    3900x available on Newegg

Dog shit is an exaggeration, but the reality is that if gaming is the primary use of a PC then threadripper is a poor platform choice. It is a good choice for a productivity rig where gaming is a secondary consideration. The high end ryzen chips deliver more fps than their bigger TR siblings and...

    Intel 660p series M.2 2280 512GB SSD $52

First of all, yes the endurance of QLC nand is certainly less than the endurance of TLC, as TLC's endurance is less than MLC, and so on. This does not make QLC endurance "utter trash". For many people, 200TBW is plenty of endurance for many years of use. I have a Micron M600 1TB drive, made in...

What do you do with your old 1TB/2TB drives?

Isn't the right answer to this thread's question "target practice"? But being serious, I see absolutely no use for 1TB or 2TB mechanical drives, not with SSDs as cheap as they are. So I take them to the scrapyard for recycling. Yeah, I know that a movie library does not need a fast read or...

Advice on hard drive showing caution in crystal disk (Screenshot)

What you said is accurate, I just want to add and emphasize that in my experience C5 and C6 errors are a very good indicator that a mechanical drive is dying. In my view, a drive generating those needs to be taken out of service ASAP. Almost all of the situations that can lead to those types of...

    Intel 660p series M.2 2280 512GB SSD $52

My suggestion to anyone considering this deal is to stretch the budget a little bit or save up some cash for the 1TB version. Not only is the 1TB drive cheaper in terms of GB/$, they have been on sale several times under $90, but the way the drive works there is a larger SLC cache and more...

HOT ! Various 1TB NVMe with coveted E12 Controller $135 aprox retail

If I would have had the extra disposable cash I would have been all over the Micron 4TB SSD drive deal when it hit $318. Sadly, I am broke so I settled for a 1TB Inland 2.5" for $85 and a 1TB Intel M.2 660p for $72 (open box deal at the egg but it arrived brand new unopened).

As of a few weeks ago, Micron had 5 months of inventory on hand (151 days). So what you're saying is correct in the short term, at least logically. However, I've seen way too many of these cycles happen to believe logic will win out. I expect hype and spin to result in far more dramatic price...

    HOLY SHIZZZZ!!!! - Micron 4.0TB 5100 ECO Series SATA 2.5" SSD $347

A rather large personal and family library of Steam games is one culprit, combined with the average size of modern games. A 500gb drive is only good for maybe a dozen games, if more are desired I'm looking at a 1TB storage drive per gaming PC. I personally have more than 2TB of games on my PC...

In many cases if you go to someone in the store and explain, they will apply the $30 discount on the open box motherboard. However, I believe the fine print says it is for new products and there have been cases where someone didn't get the discount on an open box board. So it is a YMMV scenario...

The restaurant owner who asked for 1-star Yelp reviews

Words have meaning. 2.5 out of every 1000 is not "it does not respect the rule of law". That is the hyperbole I correctly called out. If English is not your native language, I suggest you study it more. If English is your native language, then go back to your alternative facts safe zone where...

The restaurant owner who asked for 1-star Yelp reviews

Absolute bullshit. The hyperbole is claiming the 9th circuit doesn't follow the rule of law. I pointed out that 2.5 out of every 1,000 cases the 9th rules on gets overturned. Take your alternative facts elsewhere. The 9th very rarely gets overturned, same with the other circuits.
  17. D

The restaurant owner who asked for 1-star Yelp reviews

Sure, the rulings of the 9th are reversed at a higher rate than the other circuit courts. However, that is not "it does not respect the rule of law". They are still overturned at a very low rate. Save your hyperbole for the other drones. Thinking people can see facts as facts.

    HOLY SHIZZZZ!!!! - Micron 4.0TB 5100 ECO Series SATA 2.5" SSD $347

FYI, none of the Micron 5200 series utilize a SLC cache. These are enterprise grade drives and are designed to perform consistently from the first bit written until they are basically full. All data written to the drive is therefore folded and written to TLC natively.
  19. D

The restaurant owner who asked for 1-star Yelp reviews

2.5 cases reversed per 1,000 it heard and ruled on between 1994 and 2015. This shows the 9th "does not respect the rule of law"? You do you, let's not let facts get in the way.

That's too much money. It is not price competitive with freshly pulled datacenter grade storage options that are showing up on ebay and other sites. For a desktop I'd probably go with the Phison E12 drive, although it is not a no-brainer because the 4k performance of the 660p is pretty impressive. Both are good drives in their own way. However, my reply was to someone asking about an NVME for a laptop.

HOT ! Various 1TB NVMe with coveted E12 Controller $135 aprox retail

Performance won't tank with the drive half full unless you are dropping 75GB of data on the 660p at one time. Then it will need time to fold up the data and free up some SLC cache. For most use cases, performance will remain good until the drive is nearly full. But it is your money, you do you...

    LG OLED TV Sale

That is pretty cheap. It is not a small TV, though, and it is still a bit more than the bargain brands. You can get a 50" TCL Roku 4k TV on Amazon for less than $300 shipped ($279 as I write this). Element's model is $350. So even on sale for $470 LG is still more, granted we're not talking...

The price hasn't changed at my local MC, still $97. You don't want this drive, or any Phison E12. Do yourself a huge favor and go for the Intel 660p. You want a single sided drive because it will be cooler and more power efficient, both keys for your use case. The 660p is a QLC drive which has...

    LG OLED TV Sale

You're on to something with the demand factor. Since rear projector LCDs and DLPs were popular, consumers have been buying larger and larger televisions. At one point 42" was the floor for popular models. Now it is 50 or 55 inches. There are other factors, though, which I'll get into in a...

    LG OLED TV Sale

What doesn't make sense? You know that whether a panel is 32" diagonal or 65" diagonal they have the exact same number of pixels if they are 4K resolution. Some technologies shrink easier than others. Plasma TVs were very rare to nonexistent below the 37-42" range for a similar reason. It just...

    LG OLED TV Sale

It has to do with the process used to make the panels. Basically, smaller panels still cost the same to make, which is why the Dell 30" OLED monitor is in the same price range as these TVs. It also doesn't help that LG makes all the panels. Nobody else is in the game, they all have up on the...

Would have been nice if they included the 660p in that review as a comparable, since the price range is about the same. I'm kind of puzzled why they didn't. They even mention the 660p. I know the Phison E12 is faster than the 660p but it would have been nice to see the performance difference...

AMD Ryzen 9 3950X Overclocked To 5 GHz Across All 16 Cores On LN2

    1TB SSD $84.99 + TAX @ Microcenter

What I stated and what you stated are not the same, or even close. I bolded the key difference in your statement. The speed gains from SSD RAID 0 are not slight. 1TB SSD $84.99 + TAX @ Microcenter

This information is incorrect. It is true that RAID is old technology, but it is false that SSDs do not benefit from it. They do, and the performance gains can be massive. The caveat is that the gains are not across the board, they are situational. Here's an example of a benchmark showing how a...

You're not wrong about garbage soldering. That said, this particular adapter is almost all done with the PCB because it is just passing the lanes and power through. Refurbished ELEMENT 50" Class 4K LED TV (E4SW5017RKUR) $159 Walmart

I bit. My five year old broke my Samsung 55" 4K tv about a year and a half ago when he was four. He threw a butter knife, aiming at the kitchen through a doorway, and hit the TV instead. It was just a few months old at the time. After that experience I really had no interest in spending that...

I'm really looking forward to Dying Light 2. I imagine I'll spend a solid couple hundred hours or more playing it. There was actually a trick to the guns. They peaked in damage when your character is power rank 5. From that point they decrease in damage until you reach power rank 9, at which...
