    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

Market leaders get to push standards or proprietary features. Market followers usually don't, or can't. That's why market dominance matters and why we should care; market segmentation is not a boon for customers, generally.

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

The GTX 1060 launched May 27, 2016 which is almost four years ago. While I have as yet to be interested in replacing my 1070 that is only because I play games that are laughably easy to run (Civ V, Beyond Earth, UT 2003, DIablo III, WoW, and the venerable Moo ][ in DOSBox). EDIT to add: The...

Gamers are ditching Radeon graphics cards over driver issues

Right, which is why I use nVidia's closed-source driver; the DXVK layer doesn't work correctly with Nouveau.

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney condemns loot boxes, says game companies should 'divorce themselves from politics'

It's more like why should I know the politics behind the company that makes my fast-food chicken? It's not like I can order a chicken sandwich with a side of anti-(fill in the gap here) political crap I'm not interested in. If they're not selling it at the drive-through window or in the...

A mysterious deep space radio burst is sending signals to Earth every 16 days

These take enormous amounts of energy to produce, which is why aliens are pretty effectively ruled out; not to mention that being anywhere in the vicinity of the point of origin... Well, let's just say that you'd need a lot of sunblock.

Upgrade suggestion from 4790k and 1070.

Spending 150 USD to go from a 1070 to a 1080 is, IMO, completely not worth it. If your games are so on the edge of playability that going to a 1080 is a requirement I guess go for it but I think you're better off waiting for new cards to come out.

Windows 10 Warning: Anger At Microsoft Rises With Serious New Failure

This is what I was initially responding to. I'm sure s/he meant to say a branch of Unix and not Linux but the way the sentence reads, BSD is a branch of Linux, which is not correct. And, like I said, nothing about what you stated is untrue but then I never was claiming that Linux wasn't UNIX.

Nothing you say is untrue. However, macOS traces its roots right back to BSD which a Linux it is not.

Leaked 12-core Ice Lake server ES nearly 100 percent faster than Cascade Lake in Geekbench, takes the fight to EPYC Milan

Is there any Epyc chip that sports less than 16 cores? I guess Intel's new processor might compete with the 16- and 24- core Epycs but the rest of the AMD lineup is going to ROFL-stomp the Intels. RE: News editorial tone... News posts are required to be accompanied by commentary; objectivity...

Approximately 4' and I use a wireless keyboard and trackball; I have all UI elements set to 2x, so essentially I've turned a 4K monitor into a 2K monitor but it looks beautiful even though it's not OLED. KDE Plasma looks really sharp on it. :) Editing to add:

Intel Core i9-10900K 10-Core Comet Lake-S Monster CPU Leaks With 5.1GHz Turbo Clock

Ryzen 3 after 4 price speculation.

The 3xxx series is quite a bit of a jump up from the 2xxx, generationally. If the 4xxx series has the same uplift it could mean deep discounts on the 3xxx series but I wouldn't hold my breath.

confirmed: AMD's big Navi launch to disrupt 4K gaming

I could see nVidia having to drop 2080 prices if AMD came within 20% of the performance of a 2080 Ti and priced it at 600/700 USD as the 2080 is within 30% of the 2080 Ti. That's without accounting for ray tracing which, if you actually want it, is nVidia's market for the taking, at the moment.

Does a server board fit inside a Mac G5 (ATX mod)?

I don't have a G5 nor access to one (our office moved to all remote and the person who retained the G5 is several states removed from me). Office 365 Pro-Plus to Change Chrome's Default Search Engine to Bing

For my corporate searches I don't care if Google or Microsoft get our business; since we're migrating from Google back to Microsoft we'll probably end up with Bing. As long as what I'm searching for is served it doesn't matter to me. For personal searches, I use FIrefox with DuckDuckGo as my...

What's weird is that the Debian 10 installer saw and used the wireless USB device just fine but when the distro was running it accessed the USB device for all of a couple of minutes and then never allowed access to it again. I'm finding this to not be the case with Manjaro. The 'linux' titles on Steam are not running but forcing it to use Proton to launch Civilization V or Beyond Earth doesn't work either. I've gone down multiple rabbit holes trying to get these two games to work and no dice. These plus UT 2003 are...
