    Toshiba 3TB USB 3.0 external $110

This external model is the only reliable way to get the 1TB platter version of this drive right now. I know a few people that are buying them and taking out the drives for their home storage servers. For people that love the hitachi drives, this is a great purchase. 1TB platters and 5900 rpm =...

    HP ProLiant MicroServer owners' thread

The processor in the N40L is actually pretty decent. Running OpenMediaVault (Debian based NAS) with 4 2TB drives in Raid 5, I have no problem saturating a gigabit connection.

Funky Deal: 16GB Samsung SSD for $18.99

The four that I ordered arrived as promised. I'm using one as a system disk for OpenMediaVault (a distro based on Debian Squeeze) in a HP N40L microserver. After a week or so of testing, I couldn't be happier with it.

Funky Deal: 16GB Samsung SSD for $18.99

And I just bought four. If anyone was waiting to buy one of these, I think that there is only one left. I emailed the seller about a deal for buying 4 at once and he said that he sold over 200 in the last couple of days.

    Astraweb usenet provider $96/year

I switched from using torrents to astraweb about 6 months ago and I will never go back. Their service is fantastic. I max out my 40 Mbps fios connection on every download. $8 a month is the same as a Netflix subscription and astraweb is better. If you are tired of dealing with torrents, this is...

How do you Backup your ~10TB rigs?

Crashplan is great for offsite storage. In addition to the methods I described earlier, I have CrashPlan backups with two friends that live in another state. It is secure and free. If I ever have a catastrophe, I can ask one of them to mail me the drive for the restoration process instead of...

    HITACHI 5K3000 2TB $60 AR$10

+1 The number of Newegg reviews generally need to reach around 100 before you can look for real trends. Even then, they are notoriously bad. A hard drive review shouldn't depend on how many sheets of bubble wrap Newegg put in the box.

How do you Backup your ~10TB rigs?

I mirror everything to a backup server. I know that sounds terribly expensive, but there's a way to do it that makes it a little easier. Every other time I buy a hard drive for one of my computers, I buy another higher capacity drive for my backup server. With 2TB drives going for $60-70, it...

    6gb slow as heck

This. Leave your hard drive alone and buy some more RAM. 2GB is way too low for running WoW + IE w/ multiple tabs + Win 7 + whatever else you are running. As a result, your system is running out of memory and transferring the contents of RAM back and forth to your hard drive. This causes the...

    P6900 - new bigadv, 160,000ppd, wohooo!

I have to change my assessment. I run a gpu client on my bigadv machines when i get non-bigadv WUs. Once I realized this was a new bigadv, I set oneunit on the gpu and now that it has finished, these new WUs are definitely in the 2692 range on my i7-920 @ 3800.

I just picked one up, too. It looks to be very similar ppd wise to the 2685. I'm only a few % into it, so things may change as the work progresses.
