Because it is older and newer is better ;). Mostly because it seems like there is a general agreement that the output quality of the 1150 is substantially better. I would consider a discrete card, but in my experience that is just one more thing that can go wrong.
BTW, do you know if either...
I am holding off on the PSU upgrade until I go SLI. Just no reason to upgrade it until then, and that isn't happening until the consumer Oculus Rift comes out (I have played on a friend's dev kit and it is amazing.) BTW, the PSU was bought in 2009.
The old realtec 892 turned my off of the ASUS...
The Z97 Sabertooth Mark 2 is $165. I think you are thinking of the Mark 1. I thought about jumping up to the Haswell-E 6 core, but the cost is out of my budget ($220 for the board + $390 for a 5820k that you have to OC a fair bit just to get close to the single threaded performance of a 4790k...
I am currently on a Q6600 with a MB that requires frequent BIOS resets, so I am looking to upgrade.
My plan is to get an i7 4790k + 8GB DDR3 CAS9 Ram + MB. The main issue is figuring out which MB to get. I really want to make sure I get a very reliable MB. This has made the ASUS Sabertooth a...
I am looking for a MB to keep an i7 4790k suspended in my computer case.
*My main concerns are stability, SLI compatibility, and sound quality.
*I am looking to spend somewhere between $100-$150, as there seems to be plenty of options in this price range.
*All other things being equal, I...
I am thinking about switching from red to green for my triple monitor rig. I would appreciate any input I can get from those that have used either or both for multi-monitor gaming. On my home forums, some have stated that they had problems with Nvidia Surround, but I know I often have to jump...
Payment sent. It should include the return address. Tried to send a PM to notify you but for some reason it didn't register in my sent messages folder. Let me know if you received it.
Is there a typo in your part number? The few hits I am getting off that number don't match the description. Otherwise, it looks like a good deal.
BTW, if this is your heatware http://www.heatware.com/eval.php?id=83406 , could you please link it to [H] so I will be able to leave feedback and...
Looking to drop some RAM into my system to get it through another year.
I need two sticks that have at least 2GB each. I would prefer 1066 but would consider a good deal on some 800, if I can't find the former.
BTW, listed on heatware as aviphysics.
I would wait on the SSD. I would also not look at the vanilla 120GB 840. The 128GB 840 pro isn't that much more. Even better would be to wait until you have enough for either 250GB 840, 500GB 840, or 256 GB 840 pro. Another drive to keep your eye on is the M500 256GB and 512GB models. They just...
I came up with two builds near or below the $600 mark. I don't think either will match a PS4. With the i3 build, for an around $100 more you could get a 7870 or a GTX 660, but I think the i3 will be too week for the next gen console ports. A10 is also going to be too week.
$600 build: i3 + 7770...
You should check the prices on the Samsung 840 pro drives. The PSU is a little overkill for that configuration. I am also under the impression that two 680s would be a better value. I don't think you can do quad 690s anyway. would consider the i5 3570k which I understand is easier to overclock.
I think you are right about 650W being enough for CF 7950's or 7870's. I don't think it will matter though. Within a year it almost always makes more sense to sell the first card and just buy a better single card. Either way, spending $110 for the TX750 seems like a waste. It is only about...
I guess I am just thinking that getting RAM that is slightly more expensive then he could have gotten is not worthy of critique.
It would be like you telling me you bought a new car, and then I tell you that you could have saved a thousand dollars and got basically the same car. It doesn't do...
Thanks for the explanation. I guess I have only looked at their good products, like the 520HX in my current rig.
Good to know that SeaSonic is making the XFX PSU's. I have always been a fan of them.
Most PSU's only have 1 12V rail, so using adapters should be fine. All the cables will be drawing off the same 12V rail either way. I believe the reason for the multiple plugs has to do with the current capacity of the connecting pins. In my experience, using adapters is fine.
For the system...
I saw much better deals than that on the 840 when I was shopping.
About reliability, any drive can fail at any time, so anyone should make regular backups. Beyond that, if it fails under warranty, Samsung replaces it (perhaps even with a better drive) and by the time the warranty runs out...
I don't see the point. The regular 250GB and 500GB 840 SSD's are about half the $/GB and performance is still really good, especially on the 500 GB. The speed difference in most tasks probably isn't even noticeable.
LOL. We through out my old R.O.B. last fall. The thing probably still worked and maybe I should have e-bayed it but lets face it, R.O.B. as an accessory kind of sucked. The most fun we had with it was using the motor to spin up the tops and just playing with the tops. I think we kept the tops...
The 7870 tahiti is about the best bang for the buck card right now. With so many cards so close together, I think we are headed into a price war that will leading up to the 8000 series and whatever nvidia is up to.
@Shiver 7990 is just for show just like the Titan. Both cards are mostly...
Perhaps you would feel more comfortable if you took your current system apart and put it back together following some of the on-line videos. Not that it will work after that, just that it will give you a little practice.
You could also look in the phonebook for an independent tech support guy...
To bad about the PSU.
All I can say about the SSD is that I got the 500GB 840 and though it is bottlenecked by my MB's SATA 2 controller, it is still blazing fast. Windows boots so fast that Steam freaks out about loading before the ethernet has time to connect up. Basically what I am saying...
I assumed cut the fat meant going to a lower end CPU from the 3570K. Sorry if I misinterpreted that. Personally I would get the i7, but I also bought the Q6600 back when everyone said that getting a quad core for gaming was a waste. The thing is still going strong today. It really is one of...
I would say a 250GB 840 SSD will give you a lot more room for about the same price and performance is still very good.
A 520 W PSU would definitely be sufficient, so I wouldn't bother upgrading that unless you want something quieter.
For GPU, I wouldn't plan on XF right now until AMD gets...
I would say your best bet is selling the 6870 on craigslist for about $100. I got a couple offers on mine at that price, so you might be able to go a little higher (I suggest listing at least at $120, you could probably get that if you are patient).
Then get a 7870 Tahiti or 7950. I did the...
I believe part of the problem is that with V-sync off, AMD is making the cards render frames as fast as they can, when they should be making them plan ahead somehow to produce frames at a more even pace.
Turning V-sync on might change change this behavior.
Regarding the initial suggestion that...
Tested the 7870 with Civ V at 1080p and max settings. With V-sync off, I can get it to be CPU limited at times, but it stays constantly above 80 FPS. When not CPU limited, it runs between 120 and 140.
Got the 7870 MYST today. I only had about an hour with it from the time the package arrived. Just enough time to install it and see that it works. The improvement is definitely substantial.
DDL or DTS:Connect aren't really that bad. I used them for quite a while and the improvement on my HTPC when I got a new card to do realtime multichannel PCM encoding, wasn't especially remarkable (though it did let me get rid of the soundcard). The acoustics of most rooms probably have a bigger...
DD Live and DTS Connect are for games, not for movies. They allow the 5.1 audio from the game to be encoded and sent over spdif. The more recent graphics cards can do the same thing with PCM audio, but can go up to 7.1 channels. Without the ability to encode multichannel PCM, DD, or DTS in...
While I think this is an important issue, everyone who is making this out to be some sort of scam needs to join a tinfoil hat support group. I am however extra happy that I decided to get a 7870 LE instead of buying a second 6870. Crossfire, and even SLI to some extent, obviously still have...
Does the 480 encode 5.1 PCM in realtime? If it doesn't, the main benefit of the x-fi would be DD Live and DTS Connect. If the 480 does do realtime 5.1 encoding, there isn't hardly any reason to use the x-fi.
One reason to leave the x-fi in would be to use CMSS 3D when playing with headphones.
