Thanks very much both of you for the input. I'll look into the h77 & 3470 and I may just bite the bullet and get the 16GB of RAM.
I have a relatively crappy system right now and I can play SimCity at my monitor resolution (at low settings), so I may just stick with the 7750 as it'll be more...
Hi there, thanks for anyone willing to look this over. I haven't looked into hardware for years so I just want another set of eyes to confirm my research that everything will fit together and work decently enough.
1. What will you be doing with this PC?
This will be my main PC and after...
thanks for the reply, twilight. I have found out that the power supply on this case is in fact replaceable, so I should be good to go. According to an online power supply calculator, the maximum power my components would draw at 100% cpu utilization (including a GeForce 8400GS) would be 203...
Hi, just another "please check my components before I buy!" thread.
This will be used mainly for office work, web browsing, and 3D modeling/animation (hobbyist, not professionally). I will not be gaming heavier than Yahoo! Pool. I have a tower right now and it's pretty huge, so I'm thinking...
This is one of the most ridiculous statements I've read recently. Sure, a portion of hardcore PS gamers who have the income will spend their money on this and can justify it, but think about this- come holiday season, nurse Mommy and accountant Daddy want to go and buy little Jimmy and Suzie one...
Have you tried checking the temperatures inside your system? The random restarts can be caused by overheating of one component or another. This could be caused by excess dust caked in some fan? I dunno, just throwing out an idea.
Hi, I just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in here. If your going for a silent set up like you said you wanted, I would suggest covering the top blowhole, having one intake fan in the upper chamber, one rear output fan in the back of the case, and stick with only one fan in the lower HD chamber...
thx for the link. It seems that most my problems can be avoided by selecting the quick-boot/quick-post setting in my bios. Unfortunetely, my Gigabyte BIOS has no such option, unless it's hiding somewhere (which I doubt, as I looked pretty throughroghly). I've done some of the other things I've...
Hi, I was wondering how I could decrease my computer boot time. I just went back home to visit my parents, and they just recently got a cheap Dell. That thing goes from power button to Windows fully loaded in 25 seconds. My relatively powerful computer takes about a minute . I've done most of...
Hi, I have the old school Wireless Intellimouse that i've been using for a while now, and today it just suddenly stopped responding while I was in a strenuous game of Yahoo! Pool. Needless to say, I lost the game. However, I lost more than that- the total use of my mouse. Rebooting did nothing...
Hi, I just have a quick question. I just recieved my 920T yesterday and upon first inspection everything was perfect. Today, I noticed that there is a dead pixel near the bottom left corner of the screen. Can a dead pixel just suddenly appear, or was it there yesterday but I just missed it...
I personally just bought the 920T, waiting for it from Newegg. Even if it doesn't perform well, at least it's damn stylish right? Well anyway, if you google "920T reviews" there are about five real ones out there, and I believe all of them said they found no problems with ghosting (one dude...
yeh, the precharge needs to be set at three. Thank you very much for your help. It's now at 2-3-2-6, i'm gonna try 5 and hopefully it'll work. Thanks again
wow, no errors! Thank you very much- what exactly did changing those settings do? I'm assuming you increased the timings, making the RAM marginally slower? If so, does this decrease in timing affect performance at all?
Again, thank you very much for your help
I increased the voltage to no avail- still a myriad of errors (and I wasn't exagerating when I said 100 errors in a minute).
Not sure how to read this cpu-z thingie, but for my memory it says, "CAS# Latency 2.5 clocks, RAS# to CAS# Delay clocks, RAS# Precharge 2 clocks, Cycle Time (Tras) 5...
sorry, i'm really kind of a noob at ram.
I don't know how to bump up the RAM voltage (I haven't overclocked or done anything else to alter my config after installing the components, so I'm assuming they should be at the "default voltage").
I'm not sure how to check if the timings are...
I finally got around to running Memtest on my computer today (build this bad boy like 6 months ago) and I thought everything was good and dandy. Little did I know- Memtest gave me 100 errors within the first minute. I was hitting the space bar repeatedly as a new error came as the old one was...
Unbeknownst to me, this weekend while I was gone at home for Thanksgiving my roommate took his Radeon and replaced my GeForce FX5700 in my own computer so he could play Half-Life 2 with a little more graphical glory. I havent popped back the GeForce in yet, but are there any hardware/software...
Hey, I'm suddently having problems with my Photoshop CS. Now when I start it, I can't do any of the keyboard commands starting with a "Ctrl". So while I can use single letter keyboard commands, I can't use "ctrl v" to paste or hit "ctrl z" to undo and the like. Any solutions? Thanks in advance!
Hi, I have a pretty strange problem... ever since I've moved to the dorm, my computer random boots itself after I shut it down. I upgraded parts about three weeks ago, but I didn't have any problems with it during my two weeks at home.
I've ran a virus scan, nothing came up.
Wake on Lan is...
well, i found the solution. in case anyone cares, Nero creates problem if you have another CD writing program (it doesn't even have to be dedicated CD writing program -- my Itunes caused it). Go to the Nero website and download a couple of files that will fix things right up.
Hi, I booted Windows after I installed Nero and suddenly my CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives are no longer showing up in My Computer. I checked the Device Manager, and they are still showing up under DVD/CD-ROM drives -- however they have the small exclamation marks on their pictures. I tried to...
Hi, quick question for all you out there who have used Lightwave 7/7.5 and 8. I've just purchased a copy of Lightwave 7 from someone, and before I start hardcore learning it I want to know if version 8 has just improvements over 7, or is instead is a whole new program with a new interface. Don't...
Hi, I was wondering whether I did anything incorrectly in setting up my new rig. I recently got a bunch of parts to upgrade my comp with, and one of them was a Raptor hard drive. I'm reading around and seeing that people needed to hit F6 or whatnot to install drivers of some sort- When i set...
Hi, I just got some parts and upgraded my computer today. After booting, my drives have this assignment:
C: IDE first channel slave (HD)
D: IDE second channel master (dvd-rom)
E: IDE second channel slave (cd-rw drive)
F: SATA Hard drive (the one I boot Windows off of)
Is there some way...
Do I really need to get some Arctic Silver if I'm not going to be overclocking or anything?
Also, I've read that it like "expires" or loses it's effectiveness after a year or two - is this true?
Thanks much in advance...
Hi, due to fans on my motherboard and video card failing, and hard drive simply crapping over, I've decided it was time for an upgrade.
I am thinking of:
Intel Pentium 4 3.0E GHz 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache
Antec TruePower True430 Power Supply
GA-8IPE1000Pro
Kingston HyperX 184-pin 1GB Kit...
Bios and time are working perfectly.
And about the missing file, I don't think it is a factor anymore as it isn't even starting to load Windows anymore. It just gives me the message of not being able to read the disc.
I tried the Western Digital Diagnostic disc thingie, and it said error...
