I am in need of a functional laptop hard drive that does not give off the impression it will kick the bucket anytime. Anything over 8gb will do (5400 or 7200 is fine).
Depends on what you do, how you do it, and what you like. I bought a cabinet because I already had 3 machines I needed on all the time and in terms of floor space the cabinet took up only a little more than the 3 machines + wires. Inside that cabinet I was then able to add more machines and...
I am inclined to say the God of Rackmount Equipment, but I bought it off a guy who was given a ton of equipment as part of his severance package.
For $350 I got the cabinet with both doors, and both sides, two shelves, the top fan kit, and the caster base. The equipment was a few years old...
Yeah the RackWriter is awesome, you can also mix permanent and non-permanent markers so you can outline things or prevent others from erasing them. You simply write over the permanent with the whiteboard marker and wipe and it is gone. I might be interested in the vented panels, I will let you...
I worked for a non-tech company that used that method and it was very effective. You can even get thin clients that are basically a wall plate, they have the guts behind the plate and give you ports for USB, PS2, Video. I was considering using them for an idea I had that has since come and...
I just updated my rack with a few new toys and wanted to start a thread I can keep updated instead of digging through the 50 some pages of the network post. Btw, the two SMC switches are for sale, one is managed PoE the other is unmanaged PM with questions. The pictures aren't that great, when...
How long do you think the 2950 would be good for the CCNA having experience with Cisco's cycling of products? I have seen a few between 180 and 250, but I do not know how soon I will get around to actually working on my CCNA material and I wonder how long it will be before the exam is updated...
Will the 2924-XL be of any benefit to me for future tests or should I look into getting a more recent model? I wanted to get a 2950, but I dont know if that switch is covered on the test.
I agree, I wish I had done it manually. I am usually the guy telling people to do things manually so they learn and I broke my own standard practices this time. Oh well, I can always downgrade can't I? haha
Just did the upgrade, I really wanted to do it via CLI, but oh well, there will be other chances. The upload took longer than I thought it would, but I guess it is connected at 9600. Then the reload took a long time. I guess all of those are normal, but I am happy. Oh one last thing. I...
I was just going to attempt it through the command line, but I think I am going to go with the CNA this time. I might buy another that I can blow up, I got this one for $40 :)
Do I just run the delete command on the both the diag and c3h2s bins and then delete html/*? Then do the upgrade...
I see a lot of these for sale around 400mhz and 500mhz and I was curious how they compare to intel and amd chips. I know the Sun chips are 64bit and 400mhz is not the same as 400mhz intel chip.
Thanks,
Pete
Nope...this is my very first use of Cisco products. I have been using CNA for things. I know I should be doing it through the CLI, I just went the easy route figuring I couldn't screw it up by accident. I will delete the old and upgrade and hopefully not come back asking for help on doing it...
Now I am even more confused, when I set it to UTL this time ports 1-21 were lit and nothing changed since only 1-14 were lit.
When I plug in the new patch cable into the switch it takes a few seconds, like maybe 5 before the pings can reach the other machine. Which I assume is normal, then I...
Ooops, I think I removed parts by accident. I guess it is a two part question.
I have 8 wires on the back of my patch panel that work on an SMC switch
Those 8 cables do not work when plugged into the used Cisco switch I bought.
The last 8 ports on the Cisco switch work when plugged...
Where does the c2900XL-c3h2s-mx-120.5-XU sit in terms of needing to be upgraded? I see things like W3, W5, but no XU.
Also are the images in flash the images the switch boots with or are they only for upgrades and such? I guess I mean, if I delete the one image and rebooted the switch would...
Hello all,
I just received my first Cisco product today, WS-C2924-XL-EN. I am trying to upgrade the IOS to W17 and I get the following error

Right now I have 3 machines I can put into 1u cases, but a decent 1u case with power supply is $100+. I am looking to spend less than $100 as this is just for a new router and I am just tired of bidding on ebay for things.
I am looking for a 1u server with a p3 motherboard and either dual NIC with 1 PCI slot open or one NIC and 2 PCI slots open. I would really like dual NIC with two PCI slots open. No other requiremets so it can come with or without HD, CPU, Floppy, CDROM, Memory, etc
Thanks,
Pete
Thanks for the info
The PSU I was planning on using is a Vantec stealth 420w that is a few years old but in pretty good condition. I will eventually upgrade it to a 240 pin
I am upgrading a motherboard and since I already have a couple 20 pin PSUs I don't want to upgrade the PSU as well. Are these safe to use? I would think those extra 4 pins are needed.

Iperf is a benchmark utility for networks. You setup a 'server' on one end and you connect to that server from a client computer. There is then a transfer of data over a period of so many seconds and depending on how much data was transferred that is your speed...
