Dfsdirectsales.com tends to have a bunch of refurbed 1U servers that have come off lease. I've been tempted to grab one for awhile, but I have to give my wife justification, first.
Latest update on my tf201 is that each time asus comes out with a push update, my wifi breaks for about two days. It continually drops connection, reconnects, drops again, etc. As fast as the tablet can manage it. After roughly two days, it works again. Really freaking bizarre, and is enough of...
Well then. My job is procurement, and Newegg may be off the list.
I've ordered things from NE with overnight shipment many times in the past. Heck, when I lived in San Diego and was ordering things for myself, I was close enough to their distribution center than standard ground shipping got...
Hey... so that firmware update? At least for me and a few people who have posted on Asus' Facebook page, it actually BROKE the wifi! Whereas I formerly had no wifi issues, I now can connect for a few seconds at a time before the connection drops, sitting in the same room as my router.
Way to...
Having worked with my TP awhile now, I can say that the wifi is stable, but weak. I don't have the super annoying fluctuations in strength, and it's plenty good enough at my house/SB/B&N. However, at my work? Another company in our complex has a random unsecured wireless access point, which I...
I've supported a govvie group which used a ton of the E6410s and E6420s as well. I have to say... I find them to be fantastic machines, but the users will find hilarious ways to break ANYTHING. Really, I've seen a laptop come in with the keyboard bashed in after the user claimed he dropped his...
That is an issue I've run into, because Maxpedition is more focused on firearms and anything outdoorsy than dealing with sensitive electronics. It'd definitely be appreciated if they just released a handful of differently sized tablet/laptop pouches to add on, but again, not their focus...
I use a Maxpedition bag. Pricy, but it's got a ton of fantastic features, and it's built to a ridiculously durable standard. Also, adjustable enough that no matter what the load, I can make it fit more like a glove.
It's almost like there's an entire thread, on the first page of this forum, about the Transformer Prime and which deals extensively with those issues.
Oh wait.
Also... as I said in that thread, I haven't used the bluetooth or GPS on my Prime, but the WiFi works just fine. Everything else...
Wifi has been fine for me. It tends to pickup wifi from a shorter distance than the other wireless devices I deal with, but the strength is consistent (measured across hours of web browsing on my couch and while wandering around my house), and the speed is fantastic Take that as you will - if...
Whatever the availability issues, or higher specced versions coming out, the transformer prime is awesome. Not overly thrilled with ice cream sandwich being incompatible with a lot of apps, but whatever. Yep, typing this on mine-it came Friday.
What the heck... you seem to be right. Newegg has one, open-box version still listed.
I don't know what to think about that. I mean, Amazon? They list things that no one's had in stock for years.
Even better - my day job is finding stock of obscure items. :D
Well, general procurement, but finding stock, as opposed to "oh, that'll be a 12-16wk lead time" is highly desired.
So, from the teardowns, it looks like the lower end Mac Minis have space for a second hard drive, and the motherboards can handle a second drive. However, while it looks like a normal SATA connection on the HDD, the cable has to convert to a really weird connection for the motherboard side, and...
This is what I'm wondering. Where, it's possible to swap HDDs in the current iMac, but it's no longer trivial. The other side, about which I'm wondering, is that the server version of the new Mac Mini has two HDDs standard; the lower end versions don't even have the option. Will it be possible...
Wow. The one time I'm waiting for the vacuums during a woot-off? They have one stinking roomba in the middle of the night.
They've seriously managed to be disappointing in how they're being disappointing. Recursive disappointment!
Wow. From the post on the latest item, on woot itself:
So... even they're acknowledging they suck these days, most of the time?
Also, the one time I want a damned vacuum and there hasn't been one yet! WTF?
You forgot to mention "refurbished" on the laptop and desktop.
Though on this one... as I said, I'm actually in the market for a vacuum. The wine deals I've seen have been pretty decent, at least.
Looks like there's another Woot-Off. Which honestly, isn't that exciting anymore, but hey, I'm actually in the market for a new vacuum cleaner this time!
FYI, and all that.
Holy hell! That's awesome!
I'm really, really tempted by this, since I just bought a gorgeous new HDTV... If it were a PS3 for $299 with an extra controller and a $50 gift card, I'd be sold, right now (I want the bluray player, and there are some games, like the Disgaea series, which are PS3...
It wasn't proprietary
Mark my words, if Apple figures out a way to get a proprietary RAM interface, so you can only buy it from them, at their ridiculous markups, they'll jump on it.
(standard disclaimer: I'm not anti-Apple, I love my MBA, I've liked the iMacs for awhile, etc...
See, my concern is... I know nothing about Auria, and there seem to be very few reviews of their televisions just in general - the ones I did find are not good, either. So, yeah.
First, I specifically said I wasn't including the Atom-based machines. Second, I posted in response to this:
Point was, yes you can, not that it's a great idea. Personally, I've been lusting after the Mac Minis for years, but they just haven't been enough machine for the money, for me.
I'm going to suggest you look not at the case section but at the mini/booksize subsection of Newegg's barebones computer selection. Several C2D systems by AOpen that are actually a hair lower total volume than the Mac Mini, even without getting into the Atom machines and the like. Not at all...
On the 11" MBA, WoW runs really nicely. Also, Minecraft and Amnesia: The Dark Descent (though that needs a real mouse). Haven't tried a lot of other games on it, thus far.
Good question... I posted in that thread (saying that I had been wondering if the new MBPs would convince me to give my MBA to my fiance, but between the specs and the pricing, they definitely didn't), and that post is even gone from my posting history. Didn't realize we could ragequit that...
@Ankle I'll absolutely agree on the "nonstick" feet - why are they even there? The only thing I can figure is, they're there to get the base off the table/whatever. Ah, well. However, my personal experience with the wifi has been essentially opposite yours - my MBA has the best wireless...
Huh, again, that's strange. I specifically set it to 1080p HD mode (I *am* familiar with how the multiple resolutions work on Youtube...), and as I said, it ran completely smoothly. Did you perhaps not let it load first? If the network speed was the bottleneck, that could cause the problem...
I don't know what your problem is, but on my base model 11" MBA, that video runs completely smoothly at 1080p, as does all of the other 1080p video I've tried on it. So... *shrug*
Plus the 13.3" MBA actually has a better screen - 1440x900, compared to 1280x800 on the same-sized MBP (though this probably means the next MBP refresh will bring screen upgrades)
I had to jump on the sale Blizzard was running last week (vanilla WoW, TBC and WotLK for $20 total?), and so I tried it on my base 11" MBA. Surprised to see it runs at the thing's native resolution, all settings on "good" (no AA or what have you, naturally, though it doesn't make *too* much...
Bling, phide, that's kinda my point. I wasn't saying that those were bad things to have. I was saying that both of those were things that, while not selling points for me, are perfectly reasonable selling points for others.
Phide, that was my conceding the point that there was a legit reason...
You'll regret it. For a quick look at Photoshop performance: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4000/apples-11inch-upgraded-macbook-air-review-do-16ghz-and-4gb-make-a-difference/2
It's an appealing idea, but it's not a good one (this from someone who has one of these). They're great little...
Well I guess that makes sense for you. It's something I'm fine with not having, because just like S/PDIF ports on a PC, it's something I've never used on any computer, ever.
And the 13" Macbook Pro actually has a lower resolution screen than the same sized MB Air, interestingly enough.
My impressions (got the 11" the Saturday after it was announced, base spec):
-screen is gorgeous, the touchpad in incredible, battery life is great, keyboard is surprisingly really...
