My understanding of i9-13900K performance based on what is known so far:
1. Faster than Ryzen 7950 in general
2. AMD 5800FX3D outperforms it in some games but not others
3. High energy consumption and thermals (but undervolting can improve this without much performance sacrifice)
So, as a...
I just clicked buy on an Asus 'Tuf' 3080ti for $949.
I couldn't decide if it was going to drop farther or not. I could see it going either way, and I would kick myself if it went up significantly and never came back down.
Now I am on the sidelines, watching and asking: How much did I save or...
3080ti for less than $900 available. I want one but I think I will wait until the RTX 4000 series gpus come out and see if they get even lower.
I wonder, how low they will get?
I bought mine for $160 in 4/2020.
Now, the exact same GPU is $289.

So disappointing.
I've currently got an LG V60 and it is amazing. Battery life is forever. Great camera. Features and performance/dollar is very favorable.
N=320 units. 19 are DOA. I think that's a reasonable sample size.
At about 6% failure I do agree that it seems like we would hear more feedback from the general public though, if that proportion held for all shipped CPUs.
I have an 4770 CPU/Asus Z87-Pro motherboard system that I am repurposing as an Unraid server. I can enable virtualization in the UEFI but can't find an option to turn on VT-d.
Does the Z87-Pro support this? (I know the 4770 supports that feature)
Right, but it seems that 'Control Panel' and 'Settings' are redundant parallel interfaces for system configuration. Hard for me to understand why there are both.
I just replaced my 4770 with a 3600.
For me, the difference is remarkable.
I probably am not a typical user. My PC for one is used as an IP cam server in the background (https://blueirissoftware.com/). Also, I tend to have many (20-40) browser tabs open as well as multiple applications...
Does anyone know if this WD Red 10TB is SMR or not?

Problem is not just for people who visit news sites, 'Google it' is a way that I and a lot of other people search for answers to all kinds of questions: scientific, historical, cultural and everything else.
Except now I am 'Duckduckgoing it.' Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. They really...

'Eliminating net neutrality is, in the best and worst case scenarios, either necessary to keep the internet up and running, or will lead to a dystopian future where a few major corporations...
In our country, these people are called 'liberals' or 'progressives.' You're right, that's a misnomer or at least not what the term means politically in Britain where it originated. Regardless, they are squarely on the political left. In our country, people who are in favor of individual...
Actually I first saw this in this thoughtful article: https://townhall.com/columnists/alberteisenberg/2017/09/18/are-conservatives-prepared-to-be-censored-n2383024
Politically motivated technology companies dominate the tools that we use to access information and our channels of communication...
Interesting example of Google biasing searches to advance a (leftist) social agenda:
Do a Google search for 'American Inventors.'
We, or at least I, long assumed a certain degree of objectivity in the search algorithms. Who would use a search engine if they knew that it would distort or bias...

Why It’s Time To Stop Worrying About First World ‘Gender Gaps’
It’s time to stop worrying about gender gaps. There will never be perfect 50:50 gender parity in every field. Women will be overrepresented in some, and underrepresented in others. Finding a field where women (or men) are...
This is overhyped.
They reprogrammed skin cells in mice so that they regrew a blood supply/blood vessels after vascular injury was induced.
That's a far cry from reprogramming any desired cell or tissue type to repair damage or injury, as the accompanying article suggests is possible with this...
Let's put aside distracting issues and address the central point of contention.
I'll ask you again to 1) Cite a scientific assertion that Damore actually wrote that you disagree with 2) Make an evidence based argument that it isn't true.
This is the 'appeal to authority' fallacy. We should believe you because you are an expert? Nothing you have written in this thread, other than that assertion, would lead anyone to believe that that is true.
Doesn't matter anyway. Make a convincing argument. I invite you to 1) Cite a scientific...
Not what he said. You obviously didn't read the memo. Here's a full copy with original charts

To paraphrase, he said: Women and men are different. Some inherent differences (on average) between the sexes in career choices...
Glad that you agree on that, many hold out against this idea.
REALLY? I'd like to see the evidence for that.
So men>women in physical attributes, women>men in language, and cognitive function other than language can be lumped all together and is a wash, men do not have cognitive advantages in...
As someone else replied, the chart doesn't show why men score better than women in math, only that they do. Consistently. Over decades. (I chose the SAT math test because it was easily accessible, well understood, large sample size etc, but results are not divergent from other tests of...
I understand and agree with what you are saying that there is no single identifiable math gene and as we discussed on the other thread, of course there is also no single identifiable computer programmer gene either. Mapping the human genotype is still at very early stages, as GWAS techniques...
