Seems to be a lot of issues with SSD not being seen or other type of problems these days...I have two drives that stops boot process in its track if connected with other drives...These have been cleaned, formatted , wipe
I removed linux Mint from the drive with diskpart and created new partition with mini tool...with that drive in the external my computer doesn't even reach a boot screen...I have another drive with ubuntu installed and it boots fine with windows,,
With the clean drive that once had Mint...
Maybe I'm not understanding....I have a ssd with Ubuntu and it boots with or without the other dives installed
I remove one of the internal SSD's and connected the SSD with Mint...I used diskpart to clean, I created a partition with mintool
No errors computer boots into Windows with the clean...
I installed Windows 10 without any other drive installed, I installed windows 11 without any other drive installed
I installed Mint without any other drive installed other than the USB that Mink was on
Maybe I found the issue, I have Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB with windows 10 installed, the ssd with linux mint is Samsung SSD 850 EVO 120GB
Unhook the 500GB and the 120GB runs fine. I didn't know you couldn't run two drives with the same name even if their size is different
gigabyte z590 ud ac
32GB Corsair
6500XT video
Evga 750GQ PSU
External drive case has its own power and they are sata
It will boot Ubuntu with or without the other drives installed
the ssd with Mint will only boot with all other drives removed
will try and explain this best as possible...
My Motherboard is gigabyte z590 ud ac Been thinking of buying a Samsung 980 Pro Gen 4 but not sure if my board supports it at full speed
And having other SATA SSD's slow down the 980? These NVMe drives are new to me never mess with any
If I run lunux that is already installed on a eSATA drive wll it mess with my two Windows (WIn 10 & Win 11) that is on two other SSD's. I don't want to screw up those Windows drives
thanks
After trying to figure out what was going with my drives
Drive 0 Samsung 870 (Windows 11)
Drive 1 Samsung 850 (windows 10 64)
Drive seagate 2TB for storage only
I randomly get check disk /fix error on all these drives and had many fails trying to write ISO to usb
Bad motherboard only thing I can...
Yeah on mine it was both power connection point on the board, edges was razor sharp. I thought my PSU cable were maybe bad because it was very hard to make the connection.
I tried the cables (from psu) on another board and easily plugged in....I'm not calling the newer boards junk
It's been a while since I thrown together a desktop system, and how things have changed.
examples....fan not spinning on video card (thought card was bad) card was fine, fan turns on when needed
flashing leds on memory sticks
One bad thing to me was how the quality of motherboard ( or least...
I removed one of the partitions (529mb) but my attempt to backup the drive had errors (trying to give the unallocated space a drive letter. So only other options I had was to expand the recovery partition (now 1GB) and it remained at the beginning of the drive..
Disk 2 has two partitions the same ..when I try to backup drive using Reflect I get error one of the drives not found..Can I delete one of them ? If so which one?
Thanks guys, I found a issue on the Asus z97 I guess I dropped the CPU while removing once the pump died ...Many bent pins on the board
the CPU and ram still may be good but no way to test it...CPU I5-4670 ram is 32gb of EVGA...I may offer the setup and let someone test who has
a...
I bought the Rasa 750 Rx240 kit years ago, and replaced the pump couple of times
Seems like the pump is hard to find now, my question the Rad and Cpu block should be fine?
My pump went dead and I guess fired my CPU and or Motherboard
Here is a link to the kit I'm speaking of...
Thinking of upgrading to the above, right now using a Asus Z97-AR/ I5-4670k. Motherboard getting old still works fine.
Haven't read up much on the Z590 are there many issues with this board?
How much of bang if any should I expect if I go this route?
thanks
Got updated cpu-z all is fine now...didn't notice how old that one was. Bet I went into bios settings 50 times trying to get it back where it was before
thanks
One last thing, using the F8 key is from the bios bbs , connect the linux drive up and using F8 key I can pick any drive I want to boot and it works or I can use grub menu and do the same..I still think that something went wrong with the liniux install and it did something to the asus bios..as...
I tried to fix each drive/os individually that failed...starting to think if its possible that it did something in the bios ..I lost all my settings when this happen
I ran msconfig and check boot, nothing there that shouldn't be on both drives.
Ran reflect backup and did the fix boot from a USB stick, deleted both partitions and ran restore with only one drive at a time connected.
Still no go, pick the Windows 8 from the F8 key and boots to Win 10. Go to...
Thanks, are there a way I can fix this without using linux boot menu? I much rather use just the F8 to pick my OS
You see when linux is not installed I can't pick any drive to boot from other than what in primary boot in bios
even tho they are listed while using F8 key
Update, when using F8 key to pick which drive, if I pick the Linux drive once grub loads I see this
Mint 20.1 Cinn
Windows 8 /dev/sda1
Windows 10 (on /dev/sdb1/ ..will not boot if I pick that one
Windows 10 (on dev/sdc1/ will boot
