Thanks for the advice guys. I did decide to spend a bit more and got the 8gb 480 for $210 rather than the 3gb 1060 for $170. I think in the long run the extra ram will be nice, and it was only $40. Nabbed a 5gb hard drive since the deal at newegg was pretty good while I was at it. My PSU isn't...
So I'd like to do some more PC gaming but my system is getting kind of dated. Current specs:
Asus p8p67
2500k
2x4 gb ddr3
Xfx 6870
Corsair tx 650w Psu
Crucial 128gb m4
Gaming on a 22" dell at 1680x1050
Gaming includes things like WoW, dota2, and hopefully some newer titles like doom, maybe...
So I actually posted this a while ago, wound up fixing his PC for the time being and we got him something else. The PC finally bit the dust a few days ago, so my wife and I are going to replace it for him as a Father's Day/Birthday gift.
My main concern up front is: is it even worth building...
Went to Best Buy a little while ago to buy a 1 year membership to extend my PS Plus, not realizing it would renew automatically. Waited too long to return it, so here we are.
Asking $40.
It's not that far. And yes, we're going to be hammered. I won't be going to that MicroCenter for the next couple days at least. It will be fine by this weekend.
I guess very old isn't terribly accurate. So he had "a guy" that he would go to for computer related stuff and the machine has had...
So my Father-in-Law's very old computer is crapping out, and I wanted to surprise him with a new one.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
It should all be very light usage. Email, web browsing, maybe some occasional work from the office on Access or...
Looking to buy a video card for my little brother to improve his gaming performance, he tries to game at home on an 8800 GTS :p.
Thinking something like a 5850, 6850, 7770, 7790, 650 TI, 560 TI, 560. I'm flexible on the price, but I would like to stay near $60 or a bit more.
In addition to...
Makes sense. I was considering handing down my 6870 to him and upgrading to something else myself. In that case I'd need a different power supply since this one only has 1 6-pin connector, right?
Thanks for the help guys:
Dad has nixed spending the extra money on a new video card, so I'll have to decide if I like my brother enough to get him one with my own money.
I think I'm going to go with the following:
Intel Core i3-3245 CPU + Asus P8H61-M LE/CSM
Crucial Ballistix 8gb...
Decided to solicit some opinions here, as I can't decide which route to go. Dad/brother currently share a computer, but the motherboard just died. I'm not sure if it was a problem with the power supply voltages (a 500w Fortron Blue Storm PSU), though it isn't dead, but I happen to have an...

As I expected, the phone has already sold on Swappa for $240 to me (buyer pays more due to Swappa's fees). I'll close the thread once the transaction is final.
Phone upgrade time is here again. Just ordered myself a Galaxy S4, so I've got my current iPhone up for sale. It's a Verizon 16GB Black 4S.
The back has no scratches that I can see, it's been in a case covering the back and sides pretty much since I got it. There are some VERY minor...
But that isn't the drive that has been problematic to read or intermittently not appearing in the bios. I've had no noticeable problems with the Samsung drive.
The "problem" drive is the WD5000AAKS. All of them show up as Good except for the Samsung HD204UI, which has a caution in the current pending sector count.

So recently I noticed that my computer was taking quite a long time to start about half the time when I powered it on. When I finally did get into windows, accessing 1 of my 5 drives would always cause the computer to hang. Occasionally, that drive would not even show up in the bios or windows...
