Just to toss it out there: have any of y'all tried the V8 beta client? I've given it some basic testing and seems to work ok. The monitor is web-based so there is no python crap to worry abou.
Looking at my WU history, it looks like there was a base credit reduction from 200k to 120k on the 18723 WUs. looks like it happened about 2023-02-24. Sorry, my research is slow as it's getting late here or rather my day started much earlier than I wanted it to haha
Well to be fair, this thing we do is the only "discretional expense" I have (I have no life at all outside of this) so I try to "go all in" as my kids put it hehe. Have to admit it's kinda nice not having to buy any heating fuel, as my fleet keeps the house warm in the winter and my basement...
Howdy folks, it's been a while. Some of you may remember me from a few years back crunching away on milkyway@home. When the AMD drivers blew up and my Ubuntu boxes just didn't want to crunch and in the middle of troubleshooting I got my electric bill of 1500 bucks, I simply walked downstairs...
Again, no. BOINC will not detect the GPU without the driver. If you look in your coproc.xml you will see that openCL was detected but no matching components or some such.
No, they are required by BOINC. Without them BOINC will not even recognize your GPU. As far as games, I can't really say. While I very strongly believe the open source community could, and does write much better drivers, there may well be other apps like BIONC that needs something specific...
Well <radio edit> I forgot the part to install radeon-profile. While I've not tested the power control, I use it to control the fan speeds, and those Vegas/VIIs need it. Instructions to get it are here. Just scroll down past the instructions to build it yourself, to the part where it's in a a...
Hey, thanks for the information. It will give me something to test when I get more GPUs in.
Also, (and I will edit my OP) if you are using a card older than the Vega, change --opencl=pal to opencl=legacy.
So I was discussing GPUs in another thread, which was already off-topic so I decided to make a new one to show how I ended up getting AMD drivers to work in Ubuntu 20.04. In the couple months I've been back crunching I've realized by both first-hand experience and several threads in both MW and...
Yes, I have the Pro VII's. They do amazing. I run .25 GPU (4 instances) and my time per WU is ~30 seconds, so 30/4 is...well I don't math, I have these computers for all that :P I've taken a run at some Einstein work, but am currently draining my que to get back to MW. The only real problem...
A quick note? how about a low B :p Ok for real though I'm one of those techno geeks. My wife always says our house looks more like Microcenter than a house. I been workin and playin with then since about 1986 when I learned BASIC on an (now) old Apple IIe. Since then I just be messin with a...
What I did just this week was: In a system with 2 SSDs, WIn 10 installed on the first SSD. Unplugged that one, installed Ubuntu on the second drive. Plugged the Win 10 SSD back in and set the BIOS to boot to Linux. Once in Linux opened a terminal and ran sudo update grub. Now GRUB has the...
Like many, in the days of old re-installing on a regular basis was a normal practice. My current install of Win 10 has been through a couple entire system changes. I remember trying to just put an Win XP drive in a different system...ugh
Can't say this surprises me at all. Figured it was a matter of time when Red Hat "adopted" Cent. Personally, I been using Ubuntu server for over a decade and am quite happy with it.
