Played with VIRL at Cisco Live.
First time I've heard that they're trying to expand GNS3. Are they also doing anything for newer router platforms? I think that's the issue they're going to run into versus VIRL. VIRL can integrate virtualization, IOS 15, IOS XR and NX-OS. The possibilities are...
So you're using out of band management? If that's the case, not bad. I'd still be a little wary but makes sense.
My only issue with NPS is it's not as straightforward as ACS. But that's not to take away anything from 2008 R2, which is a good product and has many applications.
Sorry to bump the thread. So I was able to test NPS in a lab with GNS3/Virtualbox. And it worked; however, I was curious about the security of utilizing it.
cyr0n_k0r, you put in one of the configuration steps to just use unencrypted PAP/SPAP, do you feel like using these protocols would be...
Other notes about the network, we currently use telnet and Windows Command Line to access devices.
I want to move toward SSH and using Putty or Teraterm (or another alternative).
My management options are Active Directory 2008 R2 with:
ACS 5.3
FreeRadius
ISE
Microsoft NPS
Anyone know the...
Guys, I appreciate all of your responses. I don't think I explained the reason for my question. I have a school assignment where you have a scenario/problem, recommend an IT solution and discuss a project to implement it.
So the scenario (real life), is I have a technical school environment...
Looking for AAA. But I wouldn't mind using a comparative RADIUS solution.
Also, isn't using ACS a way to centrally manage the accounts your network engineers use to access network equipment like routers, switches, firewalls, etc?
The commercial was definitely geeky with Cisco, Mission Impossible, Hackers and Kung fu.
I'd buy one of these with the Ubiquiti Unifi Pro in my home. It supports NAT, BGP, OSPF, firewall, etc. the GUI seemed pretty straight forward, couldn't get a good glimpse of the CLI.
The comparison...
Obviously, it was a pricing error. But I think it's better he take it down to avoid any issues. Congrats on the purchase. Guess it's $250 for the rest of us.
I have a 3750G and four 3560s for my CCIE lab (No, I haven't started studying yet). They're all loud. Instead I have a fanless SG300 20 port as my home switch. I'd like a 892 or 1941 for my house though.
The course is going to teach you how to pass the test. You might learn a few things or two, but it's just a giant cram session to ensure you pass the exam.
The benefit of the class is for those wanting to certify or have been self studying and just want remediation/insurance of passing the...
You said you were in IT all your life but didn't explicitly say how long you've been in IT except to say your current job has been 7+ years.
If you're planning on doing help desk or desktop technician work then get A+ and Win7 cert.
It all depends on what you like to do. If you have a...
I'm running GNS3 in Win7 X64 and have used it over multiple machines. The first thing to do is test dynamips.
Are you running the latest version, which contains everything (putty, winpcap, wireshark, dynamips, qemu, qemu patch, etc)?
For CCNA/CCENT, you can use a network simulator like:
Cisco Packet Tracer 5.3.3
http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/netacad/course_catalog/PacketTracer.html
Boson Network Simulator
http://www.boson.com/network-simulator/ccna-640-802-cisco-network-simulator
GNS3
http://www.gns3.net/...
The test was beta tested last spring. I took the official exam in October. It's pretty easy if you've taken Security+, CEH and CISSP. I think it's a good test, definitely more technical than the CISSP. It has a few simulation questions.
I think it could be a little more difficult if it's going...
It's been in the wild for about a year and used internally at Cisco before then. The main advantage over GNS3 is it includes layer 2 switches, uses way less resources than GNS3 (the ones I've seen floating around are VMs).
I haven't used it but a lot seem to love it. It can do most of the CCIE...
I've never touched a Cisco 6500 but do they do NAT?
From the top of my head I recall a 3750 being able to do BGP, EIGRP, ACLs and possibly Tunnels (don't quote me on the last two).
I do agree on the different media types. Also, the cost of routers (depending on the model) could be cheaper...
It depends. If a job is requiring you to get the CCNA, then I'd say get it...and hope you learn the remainder of the material OTJ. But don't expect to learn anything (for the most part), as the course is geared toward you passing a test.
I took a CCNP boot camp a few years ago (for my job)...
I remember this thread and had a SG300 20-port switch.
I really had a bad experience today with the switch. It took me several hours to upgrade the firmware.
For whatever reason, the firmware kept getting corrupted when I tried to transfer the files via HTTP. And the management of files...
I have OSX installed in Workstation 8. It takes a work around and other black magic. And Lion doesn't run smoothly. It would be nice if it did, but it looks like Apple EULA and $$$ get in the way.
Netgear just released the 4500 and 3800. Software and feature wise the 3800 seems better on paper while the 4500 has three stream on 2.4 and 5 GHz freq.
Good idea. Dynamips is good for CCNP Route too, but the real equipment introduces real-world situations.
Like I remember I was helping a coworker setup a class room for labs, and we couldn't get a router to "take" configs. It turns out the conf reg was 2142.
You won't run into it with...
If he doesn't have a serial port, use one of those USB to DB9 connectors. And if you open Putty/Teraterm/Hyperterm/whatever, just hit reset to default for the console connection.
And some people like the feel and experience of actually using the real equipment. I just bought a new laptop with...
If you have a smartnet contract, download the latest version of IOS for that device and use FTP to transfer it to the Flash (Cisco TFTP or Solar Winds or whatever running on your PC that's connected to the switch).
And it also depends on what you want to do with the switch. Out of the box...
That ish is loud compared to one of those fanless Procurve 1810 or SG300s that everyone rave about.
3550s, 3560s, 3750s and 4500s needs to go in a closet with the boogie man.
If you guys can get your hands on the Network Academy lab books, they're a really good source for enforcing the lessons.
With CCNA, the thing you have to remember is the topology of three routers, three switches. For Spanning Tree, you just have to understand how to view the output from show...
You learn something new every day. I didn't know the 2960s could have SVIs and static routes.
And NetJunkie, are you referring to the 2960S? I've heard they are a little buggy.
Also, I have some 3560s and 3750s. Those are all some loud suckers. I wouldn't use them for home network...
What RJ45 X 4 NICs are you using? I bought some adaptec ones months ago but they don't support 80.1Q.
And I was where you were at back at the beginning of the year, but I "lucked" into four 3560s, a 3750, a 2811 ISR, two 2600XMs, a 3845 (the thing is ginormous) and a 3825. I just need either...
Cisco Switches support Cisco and IEEE link aggregation. If you're trying to negotiate via protocol it's going to be channel-protocol lacp then use channel-group # mode (active, on or passive).
From the cursory look I saw,
You need to ensure you activate the interfaces after you've configured them. In this case, the serial interface on R1 was in the shutdown state, which is why you don't see the 172 network between R1 and R2.
If the cabling was already done when you started the...
Seems like a few new wireless routers have been released recently:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100010076%204804&IsNodeId=1&name=New%20Product
NETGEAR WNDR4000-100NAS IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router
BUFFALO WZR-HP-AG300H IEEE...
I tried to enter the secret CLI, but ctrl-z didn't work for me. I tried it in the logon screen and in the menu but nothing happened.
I took this link from the last SG300 thread:
https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-15345
And I'm still unsure about the layer-3 functionality (if it...
