...i do not, sadly.
the gateway 30" did this, but build quality is not long-term. seems to be the only 'drawback' from the dell. pip does not seem to be a feature of most larger screen monitors (that consumers are willing to pay for in large numbers)...(i personally love the feature)
if all...
haven't had the monitor you speak of (hp), but the dell 3011 uses picture-by-picture, not pip (as with the gateway 30")
so far, so good w/the dell though
^ you are right, the speakers do tie it all together. nice work!
it *is* funny to see civilian responses to our setups...the eyes always bulge out
you know you're [H] when...you want the girl to stand out of the way so you can get a better look at the 30" monitor setups :D
j/k. love the setup though
has anyone successfully gotten this repaired by a professional?
i got the dreaded banding and discoloration about a week ago.
considering my options - a new 30 is still pricey, called the monitor place in houston (monitordepot) and they do not repair this particular model. nice folks though
pls...
thanks for the post woodboat...my xhd3000 just started showing the dreaded 'bands of impending doom' this weekend and rather than try the repair ($$$) route, i am looking at alternatives. will miss transparent pip from hdmi on my gateway though :(
nice work. i love big desks. my ideal space is always big enough to open a wall street journal flat on the desk surface. +1 on simple, straightforward construction
um...no.
most on [h] focus on the gear, the desks are utilitarian, if not an outright afterthought...a flat surface to work and focus on the gear!...desktops that just gets the job done at a good value.
here is one of mine...ikea < $100...simple...love it...and i haven't seen college in 20...
^ thought those tunnels looked familiar! (cali native) i was thinking alameda just north of imperial when they were originally posted. always wondered what they looked like from the ground level. thanks for posting the pics!
and to the rest for the workstations...activity seems to have picked...
thanks, this helps a lot - i bought a small silk bonsai tree (8") online (it's in one of my photos in this thread a few days ago), it looks realistic, i love it, brings a peaceful feel to the room, but i want a bigger one. plus i'd imagine that walmart's wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg. so...
thx!
you'd be surprised how small this room actually is - clean setups make rooms look much larger. if you are going to be in a dorm, it's the only way to go. for me, a clear workspace helps the 'flow' of things, be it work, reading, or web surfing.
i got much of my inspiration from these very...
thanks ballistic
bonsai...the zen in me loves them...the busy everyday person in me would probably kill a real one :D so i had to make a compromise..
here is where you can get 'em...later when you have the time and disposition to work with a real one, you'll be ready...

i'm with you there on the proper receiver and speakers...it's just that i'm no audiophile by any stretch of the imagination :D i'm what the marketers would call the 'perfect HTIB candidate'...we just want the damn thing to work without a lot of complications...i see setups, even on [H], that...
agree totally on this feature - i love watching nfl games while surfing the web! like the poster above, keeping the fingers crossed and hoping the 'monitor gods' don't strike down this monitor
for those with mech problems, have you considered outside (of warranty) repair? seems like a...
second the panasonic plasma...i have the 50" viera...and it's down well past $1000 now in certain places...
re: the HTIB route with the panasonic...think hard before going that route with the panasonic...i bought the panasonic HTIB 5-DVD system a year or so ago because i wanted everything to...
cool, thanks for the info, i looked back at the pics and can see the conduit, good idea. i have white walls so that would work for me :D however, i'm all thumbs when it comes to putting together stuff so i may have to evaluate the situation before going all in
still rockin', with fingers crossed. i love this monitor - and there does not appear to be any decent 30" alternatives at the moment with all the features this one has, so i'll continue to hope for the best with this one!
very nice work on the grund lights. considering putting some up myself, how did you conceal the wires? up top on the shelf itself? and transformer along the wall somewhere?
my shelf is about 6' off floor
+ 1 for industrial design (desk) and wall setup. for the record, i'm not an audiophile either (you may become one once you've been on [h] a while). as long as the LCD'S are good to go, so am i! :D
is this from ces?
no bezels - the holy grail of all [h] monitors
it's coming...but who knows when...we're just getting to the point where joe sixpack doesn't consider a flatscreen hdtv a luxury item, so...it's a matter of time
the $$$ though (for early adopters)? wow :D
good - i want to put off buying new 2 tb drives for as long as possible :D fill those puppies up to about 95% or so before the switchout
current setup is 750 main hd + 3 1TB - all platter
want to go to SSD main hd + 2 2TB sometime later this year
glad this topic came up - i am in same situ
asus p5ke board w 4x1GB sticks ddr2/667 = 4gb
debating whether to go to new asus p6 board, i5/7 chip, and ddr3 memory (1066,1033, 6GB) OR
get 8 gb mem ddr2/800, 4 2 GB sticks, which would max out my board, and hold off on upgrading motherboard, etc...
