I have created an installer/package for the latest omnios version for logitech media server.
But it still needs a little bit of tweaking and testing.
I will publish it in the next days/weeks...
I have also two virtual nics, maybe that is the problem, one exclusive for the ESXi - OmniOS - NFS Connection and one for accessing NFS CFIS and other services from my network, with different subnets on each one. Running the VNICs as e1000 since i experienced stabiltiy problems with vmnet3 in...
Maybe its hardware or setup related, i never found out whats causing these problems...
If i had to set on something i would say network drivers or NFS locking for some reason.
@nostradamus99: Do you have one or two network adapters in your OmniOS VM?
I had to correct my experience, somehow i was confused, too many testing in the last time :)
the nfs problems i have are present in every version of OmniOS 151014 (170cea2 from April and 7648372 from 27 July) so its only stable with the latest ESXi 6 and OmniOS 151012. I guess there must be...
About stability, which i like to share:
I tested in the past OmniOS 151012 and VMWare ESXi 6, when it was out and it was NOT stable with NFS datastores. Then i switched back to ESXi 5.5U2 with the latest patch level and all was fine. Meanwhile i switched to OmniOS 151014 - 170cea2 from April...
Hi! I was running in the same TLS error when i reinstalled my Nappit VM in the last days. After some tests i downloaded OmniOS_Text_r151010.iso and got it working by installing the net-ssleay before doing a pkg image-update (or pkg update), that did the trick for me. After that i did a pkg...
ZFS is not garbage, your hardware maybe is... I know a dozen of people personally that are totally happy with ZFS and also this and other forums prove you are wrong :)
For home users the license is 300 for all extensions and unlimited time:
Special offer: Napp-it Pro, complete edition unlimited for noncomercial home use: 300 Euro (with two keys for your home and backupserver)
Buy one year complete and send us a mail with the two servernames and the info...
i bought 7 x wd reds (6 x raidz2 and 1 x for migration and after that as spare) and all were ok, i guess its always the same with all drives and manufactures, you could be lucky or not.
you could get faulty drives no matter if enterprise or not and with all manufactures...
I just bought 6 WD Reds 3 TB and am very happy with them.
Before i had 8x Seagate Constellation ES2 drives on my Hardware Raid, they were also very good but very expensive in comparison. 3 of them were DOA and i was getting new ones for them. 4 years later one drive of them died after 4 weeks...
@gea: just saw that since 6th feb a new afp package (3.02) is available at http://scott.mathematik.uni-ulm.de for omnios.
can i just reinstall/update the afp via wget and i have the newest version, or do you have to modify the installer?
will test the email problem another day, i have here still some major problems with setting up nappit properly.
when i want to set an afp share i get the following error:
Software error:
Undefined subroutine &main::create_UUID_as_string called at /var/web-gui/data/napp-it/zfsos/_lib/zfslib.pl...
i have an lsi controller. but when i start the extension i get:
SAS2 monitoring needs Smart-Serials for correct disk detection. Smartvalues are missing!
Let`s say i have a defective disk in my raidz array and i want to replace it with a new one.
Is there any way to identify the disk via nappit, so that i am replacing the right one in my enclosure?
Hi!
Just played around a bit with nappit and zfs the last days. what i really don't understand yet is all that acl stuff. I need to read more about that all...
Maybe someone can enlighten me a bit how i can solve the following problem or the best way to do this:
On my last samba/nfs/netatalk...
just finished a fresh installation of omnios and installed nappit.
when i click in the webinterface then it shows processing and nothing happens anymore:
on the host in get something like this:
Feb 3 16:29:12 omni-san sudo[6921]: [ID 574227 auth.alert] Solaris_audit getaddrinfo(omni-san)...
@Gea:
Is it possible with nappit or with omnios board tools to announce my services via the network with avahi?
Not speaking about apple services, i want to announce nfs services.
I am not familiar with omnios and would be happy to know how to do this...
Thanks
Is it possible to define a "degraded" raidz2 at creation time?
What i want to do is the following
working setup: raidz2 4+2 disks
define of the raidz2 4+1 disks and one holding temp the migration data
after copying the data complete the raid z2

Hi!
About disks reporting the correct physical sectorsize problem:
I want to build a new machine with WD RED series disks.
@Gea or anyone knows if the WD30EFRX works without problems and
report the correct size, or is there any trouble expected with the disks?
Greetings schleicher
Hi!
Ehm no, i think thats ok to share, i hope i don't get in trouble with supermicro ;)
UPDATE: ONLY DO THIS IF YOUR NIC IS NOT WORKING AT ALL!!!!
CHECK THIS ON OTHER OPERATING SYSTEMS.
NOT THAT EVERYONE HAVING PROBLEMS GETTING THE NIC TO WORK
IS FLASHING AND ITS NOT NECESSARY.
USE...
Hello again.
Just for your information, the problem was hardware related.
Somehow the eprom of the nic got corrupted while the bios
update to version 2.x of the main board. I contacted the
supermicro support and they send me a super fast response
with the needed files to reflash the nics. both...
i had the same problem as bleomyci but i started the installers AFTER updating to the latest
oi and rebooted every time, so the problem must be something else...
UPDATE: just ran the installer again like bleomyci and TADAAA! i can connect from my lion machine now.
btw Gea: Tolle Arbeit, die du...
UPDATE:
i already found some threads on the net having problems with the areca, solaris and jbod mode with zfs,
so that option i can forget.
new plan: turn my real machine to a vmware, vt-d the areca raid controller to the vm, leave all as it is...
buy another two 3 tb hard drives and...
@x-cimo:
you meant probably: 4 vdev of 2 mirrored 1 tb drive
i like the idea with 2 mirrored drives, because when i give up my hardware raid i can only replace some
disks and will not have to buy 8 hds at once to get more space. i didn't think about that yet by myself,
so many thanks for...
Hi!
At home i am running a little server, based on desktop hardware with an areca raid controller
card and 8 drives providing some services for me. Because i want to test some things and
extend my home services i am thinking of building a new home server.
After doing some research it...
