i had that samsung 750d too, and i remember it being full glossy and having quite vivid colors for a TN panel. i sold it only because 120 hz blur reduction (50% over baseline) was not enough for me, not because of the colors. i had it next to the IPS on my desk, and while there was certainly a...
thank you for your precise questioning. yes, that's my reservation about "blur-free" IPS displays too. it might have better colors than the TN based swift, but what's that good for if the picture smears at every turn. i have a 120 hz IPS here, its static picture is a beauty, but i don't play...
what's best for you depends on what type of games you play. as an fps only player, i'm most annoyed by motion blur and lag (from vsync for example).
tearing... not so much, at least i don't notice it nearly as easily as blur and lag.
would i still benefit from gsync?
how is image...

got a gigabyte 970 g1 yesterday. tbh i wasn't i dire need of replacing my 770 / 4 gb, but i thought i'd better sell it now as long as i could get a good price for it and make up for a part of the 970's cost. in the past i tended to use a card until the next upgrade yielded about...
same here. for example, i play mainly fps, using 120 hz lightboost (benq xl2411t), so framerate is king for me. i prefer blur-free motion to high res. i also have an overlord which does 120 hz, but it's still too blurry for shooters. it's funny seeing the new gaming pc (i5 4670k) with a 1080p...
i'm using a benq xl2411t atm which has the same panel as the asus vg248qe. lightboost does indeed eliminate motion blur, however at the cost of washed-out, drab colors and grayish blacks, despite all tweaking.
were you able to overclock your catleap, and if yes, how much? did it still blur...
intentional cap? what is this supposed to do, save resources?
if true, that was useful years ago. some things seem to move really slowly at microsoft. it's funny that apple's browser supports 120 hz although their monitors don't have that feature afaik, yet microsoft's browser is the only...
these were exactly my reasons too for not considering an iphone. as well as the screen size.
i've been stuck with a plain old nokia for years and ignored this smartphone trend. it could make phone calls and write messages, what did i need more :p
finally got a samsung s3 just because...
lightboost for fps and racing. IPS should be better for mmo / rpg since the increased res lets you see more.
what's more important to you, color or motion sharpness?
the PB278Q is IPS @ 60 hz. i won't use 60 hz again for playing fps. although i admit that its colors and resolution are...
i remember how i went to the neighboring city only because someone told me about that "wonder card" that made quake look so totally different... i went, saw quake running in 640x480 at literally twice the frame rate (28 vs 14 fps, lol) and came back with the card. that was like the moon landing...
thanks, i see. then PWM is not relevant for my purposes.
i had the samsung 750d, sold it and bought the xl2411t. good looking monitor, but no blur mattered more, i wrote about that. i'll use the benq until someone makes a model without AG coating.
btw, i found the 2420TE on the US site, it...
thank you for making this clear.
i'm happy with my XL2411T so far. as i have posted several times, i was getting nausea from FPS gaming on LCDs, much quicker on 60 hz screens than on 120 hz, something i never had in the CRT days. it has disappeared completely since lightboost, so this must...
same here. i always wanted to be able to see the action from my own POV in games, and when wolf3d and then doom came out, i found this gameplay immersive like no other game before.
i still prefer fast, simple shooters on the PC in the style of UT / QL, relying on mobility and quick aim...
thanks a lot for this post, was very helpful for me too. i have a 1090t @ 3.8 and recently upgraded from an amd 5870 to a gigabyte gtx 670, and haven't even oc'd that one yet. i guess it won't matter anyway with the phenom, i'll upgrade to haswell.
you're julios then, i presume ;)
wingman uses a deathadder 1800 dpi sensor and is still going strong, most comfortable mouse i've ever used. i'll add some pics in the m&kb forum, not to derail this thread.
as for the fw900, i would have liked getting one. my desk is sturdy enough, but that...
it's purely nvidia, but you can activate lightboost by plugging the asus into a notebook with an nvidia card and then back into your amd card, it's all described in this thread.
i posted several times about getting motion sicknesss due to blurry images, plain 120 hz were not sharp enough. lightboost has indeed eliminated this completely.
lightboost what? nothing special actually. backlight is strobed instead of being on all the time. my screen is always in strobed...
that was my biggest problem with bioshock too. i found the story and the setting interesting, but i need precise control in games. see, i'm used the classics from id and valve, which have crisp movement and mouse aiming. compared to that, bioshock felt like skating around and holding the mouse...
see the lightboost thread. lightboost monitors are all TN, with response time as low as 1.4 ms, while those overlockable IPS were measured at 10 ms fastest. unfortunately, IPS panels are too slow to be used for lightboost monitors. 120 hz IPS come only in 27", no 30".
lol, that's quite the wrong way asus is going. is it that hard for them to just omit that ag coating, or don't they read that people take extra steps just to get the coating off their monitors? your closeup here really shows what coating does to an otherwise fine image.
same here. i'm on an amd 1090t @ 3.9 ghz, planned on getting ivy but hoped for 5+ ghz overclocks, and the graphics card was the more urgend upgrade. now i guess we won't see big jumps in cpu performance soon, so there is no alternative to haswell.
what mark said. very precisely, as usual.
also, see this post by vega comparing the vg248qe and the 130 hz catleap, which have the same panels as my xl2411t and overlord.
basically, the IPS is clearly superior for everything except shooters. unfortunately, i play shooters almost...
from my experience, definitely.
see this post, this is what the matte film does to a sharp image:
would anyone wear glasses made of this film?
as i posted before, i owned a samsung S27A750D too and sold it because plain 120 hz were still perceivably blurry, and i expected better...
cru makes setting up lightboost easy. i run my benq xl2411t at 10% lightboost (1.4 ms strobes) all the time. the text above the pixperan chase car stays perfectly clear at the highest speed. as i posted earlier, regular 60 hz is so blurry it gives me nausea pretty quickly, 120 hz screens are...
rofl. best pic ever on this topic :D
as for crysis3, this just shows what insane requirements that game has. especially when you want to stay at constant 120 fps.
going to watch vega's videos when i'm at home.
beautiful keyboards. i'd like one (barrister or machinist i guess) for a steampunk mod, but it would cost as much as the whole rest ;)
they're mechanical? so how's gaming on them?
funny discussion.
"it makes your picture sharper"
"no, it should support 3d vision"
"it's not a big deal"
well, some people seem not to realize what they're missing, they're so used with that 60 hz lcd blur they forgot crt sharpness, or never used a crt.
i'm not interested in seeing...
that makes me hope nvidia is smart and builds an easier 2D lightboost mode into a coming driver release
(something like a simple checkbox for "activate lightboost on launch" for games when a lightboost2-capable monitor is present),
so we can quit with these "lightboost hacking...
depends on what you play, CTRs are good for shooters. for other games i think you'll benefit more from a large high-res LCD.
according to those using monitors with lightboost @ 2D, this technology finally does away with CRTs for perfect motion clarity
still haven't had time to set this up...
i thought of posting this ;)
as one can see, it's still decent. i have been using a 5870 for 2.5 years and never had issues with it. i recently switched to a 670 because of the lightboost hack.
IMO, nvidia has to realize that they have a good selling point with lightboost for zero blur motion. i can only speak for myself, but i'm about to upgrade to a 670 instead of a 7970 as originally planned because of this lightboost trick. the xl2411t arrived today, the 670 should take a few days...
