Should be 100Mbit down, 40Mbit up (VDSL2 vectoring), but this test doesn't seem to be too great in Germany. Modem syncs with 109Mbit down and 42Mbit up, firewall is handling that load pretty good.
got something new to play with, this needs to be tested and confirmed to be working with everything we have at work like sw distribution, network, etc. Got three of them to test with, so I took one to play with. We might even be able to keep them...crappy graphics cards included...

I had some real issues with coverage while I had 2 of 3 mounted that way. Putting them on a wooden bracket attached with metal brackets to the wall (ceiling was too high) did result in a coverage as I had wished before.
forgot to take a pic of the covered frame...but...I bought the IP card. Now SIP capable, just didn't connect it to a SIP trunk yet. It is quite dirty, because I had it up and running before I drilled some holes for the MDF. Stupid me.
Top board is the main board, to the right, there are 4 FXS...
AFAIK there's a lot more other blocks in use in the US, the Krone blocks are nice though. And the same termination tool can be used for network connections and whatever else.
You're right about the cover. There's a metal cover on top of it, covering the whole frame from top to bottom. Just...
Today I had some spare time to throw out my old PBX (older Siemens Hipath 3550 Version 4) which had some missing features compared to the newer versions.
I got hands on an used Siemens Hipath 3500 V9 (same as 3550, just 19" case), which is IP capable if I ever want to use it.
Why am I not...
I actually pay almost the same as every normal customer does. So, working for an ISP doesn't necessarily mean you get free internet ;) and if this ISP is one of the largest employers in Germany, chances are close to 0 to get it for free :D
It's in Germany (so no Comcast for me ;) ) and my provider doesn't allow reselling as in reselling for money but they don't clearly say it's against their TOS to share it without fee. Since I work for my ISP, I asked some people, that should know about it ;)
Why no own circuit down there...
in April, we built a "public" WiFi in our town hall and fire department next door. "Public" because it is secured by WPA2 where only users of the town hall and all members of the fire department know the key, and they also know that it can be changed any time.
Reason for all that was that the...
yeah I guess that's what he was thinking. We had already 2 arrays failing which lead us to reinstall 15 VDIs on each array in one night. Caused the host to be in a really high load situation :D
depends on what you wanna do with it. For now our VDI runs on HP DL580 G5 (freaking old stuff with Xeon 7400s) with 64-384GB RAM, depending on the host, and a few RAID0s (whoever designed that should be killed). Only one host is a DL580 with Xeon E5s. Users usually don't complain about the...
Got a new toy :) HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8, Intel Xeon E3-1220V2, 18GB RAM (2x8 +1x2GB), Dual-Broadcom-NICs, iLO4, just gotta get some drives for my Adaptec 3405

Germany. Slow. Sucks.
actually knowing I'd just get 3Mbit/s down but having 6 due to knowing someone who knows some guy that can just switch DSL profiles is a good thing, but it's still slow. They won't change it to a 16Mbit/s ADSL2+ profile, otherwise I'd have somewhat around 10-12Mbit/s...
that sucks. in the european union they cut your international roaming at 60 euros (somewhat around $75). after that you're not able to use your data plan outside your country, except if you call your provider and let them disable that cap.
goofy as in "why is there about 1/3U space in between?"
they told me to do it like that just because the PoE switches seem to get a little warm ;) and there is lots of space in most racks
we had about 60 3750Gs deployed at one location, just 2 spares sitting in a shelf, never had to use them in 3 years. i have no idea how many there really are at my company, but I'm guessing somewhat in the range of 5000 to 10000 3750Gs and 3750s with PoE (3750G at a location with Alcatel IP...
2 Fritzboxes (I bet those americans don't know them ;) btw...JensS...german?)
3 Alice routers (same as above)
the larger ones, I don't know. ;)
"Great" stuff next to those Cisco 10000 and 6509 :D
it's not that awesome once you know how it works. the older phones (Optiset and Optiset E) use an electromagnetic system which recognizes the handset and activates the hook switch. This one is near the microphone area (lower end)
the newer phones (Optipoint 400,500,600) use a light barrier...
not at all ;) look at my list on page 197 somewhere on top. It's Cisco 3xxx switches, 1841 and 2811 routers and the white something is a terminal server thingy.
seems to be easy to do ;-)
the top one could be a C3512XL? I'm not sure with this one though
the white one is a console server
then 2 C3750-24TS or PS
one 3560G-48
2 APC PDUs
4 1841s w/ WIC-2T
6 2811s w/ WIC-2T
1 3640 w/ NM-2FE-TX and seems to be 2 NM-8A/S
edit: lol didn't see page 197 :)...
that WISP stuff reminds me off stuff we want to do here. The little crappy village next to us gets DOCSIS 3, we get 3meg ADSL. Our goal is to get 2 of those DOCSIS3 lines with 128megs down and 5 megs up for like somewhat around 50-70 customers here. Since Germany has some crappy regulations for...

Yes, I love seeing the fronts of the devices ;-) usually it's bought for LAN parties, but right now it's used for playing around and studying purposes...the bottom switch is a layer 3 switch which is used as a backbone right now and it will be connected to the Alcatel...
the highest number was around 170, it was nice, but not much space left for more people since I think it's good to leave some ports open for "emergencies" like broken ports or something and each 100mbit switch has 4 ports trunked for uplink which makes them basically 22 port switches, and the...
the pic was taken back when I picked them up and just unloaded them out of my car. So this is why they look like being unused. All of them were in use last weekend for a 180 person LAN party and it went like a charm :) not comparable to when we used cheapo china switches. Though 4 of them only...
I know, but since it's only used on LAN parties where there is a nice decent 63 amps 3 phase power source available, it's not that much of a pain. I would never ever use one of these at home, my home server is an Atom 330 ;-) I might just get another Atom server for smaller LANs to provide the...
