Does the Rift S possess any features that would make it a must-have over the Odyssey+?

At the moment headsets are very subjective. There are so many factors that can influence how one person can take to one particular VR headset and hate a different one. The shape of your head, the shape of your eyes, your IPD etc. are some of the things that have an affect on what you think of a...

    Is VR even worth it?

Ok, I guess you are going to have to choose between the Quest, the Rift S and the Samsung Odyssey+. The Samsung Odyssey + at $249 right now is probably your best bet.

    Is VR even worth it?

The machine in your signature is fine for VR. No worries there. Better GPU would of course be better, but wait until the next generation of cards are out. The headset you pick depends on your budget. Of course if it really works as pain relief for your MS, then who cares about the cost, just get...

HTC Vive Pro Headset Permanently Reduced to $600

To me? Nope. I would still get the Quest if I was buying a headset now. And as I said in my post, it might be worth considering for other people at a sale price.

VR Core Scaling (specifically 6 vs 8). Any data?

ah, in the last few posts we were only talking about the 3800x and the 3700x, so when you said you had both I presumed you meant those. My Bad!! well, then here is my advise. If you are going to upgrade when the next gen CPUs come around then keep the 3600x. If you are going to skip the...

AMD reveal next-gen ‘Nvidia killer’ graphics card at CES?

Ok, you are so sure, you show me the proof? What have at the moment is just the beginning. It has to start somewhere. Things will accelerate quickly when AMD GPUs and the consoles get Ray Tracing later this year. Even you should have been able to see the improvement in Ray Tracing since it...

VR Core Scaling (specifically 6 vs 8). Any data?

If that's the case then just keep the 3800x as it's cheaper. It seems a pretty simple choice to me.

AMD reveal next-gen ‘Nvidia killer’ graphics card at CES?

I would like to see some proof of that. Ray Tracing is a win -win for the developers and the gamer. Games are easier to develop and look much better.

VR Core Scaling (specifically 6 vs 8). Any data?

How is that relevant now though? AMD did a deal on the 3800x for about a week just before Christmas, but that deal is over. I am guessing they did that deal because they weren't that selling that well. Why pay the extra money for an negligible performance increase over the 3700x. For one extra...

VR Core Scaling (specifically 6 vs 8). Any data?

The 3800X isn't worth paying for over the 3700X.

VR Core Scaling (specifically 6 vs 8). Any data?

You are way over thinking things. Get the best CPU you can afford within your budget. If you have something outside of gaming, an academic pursuit, that needs more cores than get the CPU with more cores. It sounds like you already made your choice to get he CPU with higher cores. I am guessing...

VR Core Scaling (specifically 6 vs 8). Any data?

With the GPUs you are deciding on, it makes no difference. Get the cheapest CPU.
  14. R

VR Core Scaling (specifically 6 vs 8). Any data?

It depends on the game, but in the main I would say very little, VR is so GPU intensive. I am presuming you are looking for this information because you are deciding between an 8 core or a 6 core CPU? Well, depending on the price of course, I would get the 6 core and get a better GPU.

HTC Vive Pro Headset Permanently Reduced to $600

I had no tracking issues with the Odyssey+, the tracking just isn't as good as the Quest, never mind the Original Rift with 3 sensors. And no I wasn't doing anything wrong. No matter what I did the Odyssey + wasn't as comfortable as the Rift Civ1. Steam integration was crap when I tried it...

HTC Vive Pro Headset Permanently Reduced to $600

The Vive Pro is a big upgrade over the regular Vive. And it should work flawlessly with the Wireless adapter. But, YMMV. It won't require new lighthouses. If you are feeling brave you can try the GearVR lens mod.

HTC Vive Pro Headset Permanently Reduced to $600

Oculus can't just unlock the refresh rate of the Quest. First they would have to get low level access to the processor from Qualcomm, then they would have to jump through a bunch of hoops for FCC certification. As for the OLED vs LCD debate in VR headsets, well it's all down to what you prefer...

My Experience with FreeSync vs. G-Sync

Not that it really matters because if you are do a lot of gaming under 40fps then it's time to upgrade your system, but, Gsync uses frame doubling just like Freesync does. Gsync isn't 1 to 1 down to 30Hz, it starts frame doubling at around 38fps. For freesync, LFC kicks in as soon as you do...

What Is Your Personal Favorite Video Card of All Time?

I loved my R9 290, interesting card and Mantle was brilliant when it was introduced. I also really liked the Vega 64, looked great and had loads of fun to trick around with to get extra performance. Back in the day the two cards I remember best were the 9800pro and the 8800 GTS 640MB. It was...

    Rift S

The Rift S is the more premium experience. But the Quest has two main advantages the ability to play anywhere without wires and the OLED screens. It also has an adjustable IPD but, that might not even be an issue for you. The Quest might never get an upgrade to 90Hz, that depends on Qualcomm...

Rumor : AMD Bringing Ray Tracing Support to Navi in December

I am not saying Chad is right or wrong. But I am saying the performance doesn't tell us if the cores are different or not. Nvidia themselves have said that the Tensor core are way better in Turing than Volta. Little changes in Architecture, the way the SM units are built and addressed would make...

Rumor : AMD Bringing Ray Tracing Support to Navi in December

The point I was making is that the Titan V's Ray Tracing Performance been lower than the 2060 Ray Tracing performance isn't any kind of proof that the Tensors core are different than the RT cores. Architecture changes, the way the cores are placed in the SM unit and the Tensor cores been a lot...

Nvidia Creates New Studio To Remaster Classic Games With Raytracing

I should correct this statement. I know which I am playing. I have a 2070 Super, I play Quake 2 with Ray Tracing on. I tried playing it without Ray Tracing and it was too terrible to look at. Or to put it another way, if it didn't have Ray Tracing, I wouldn't play it at all!!

Nvidia Creates New Studio To Remaster Classic Games With Raytracing

The age of the game doesn't really matter. Quake II is fully Path Traced. That's all the Ray Tracing lightening effects, shadows, reflections, refractions, ambient occlusion, and diffuse global illumination. And I know which one I would play, the non Ray traced Quake II looks terrible when you...

Significant stability issues since installing 5700 XT

If you can't install it in another machine to test it out, then the only way you will know for sure if it's a hardware fault is to do a full windows reinstall.

    I want something new... 5700xt or 1080ti?

I did exactly that, the 2070s is much better than the paper specs suggest. For me, it was a worthwhile upgrade which completely surprised me considering how close they are in performance. Get the 2070s, you will enjoy it a lot more than getting another 1080Ti.

Reddit? LOL don't make me laugh, it's typical over reacting drama over there. I want something new... 5700xt or 1080ti?

You know, I am not sure about the 5700XT, but I recently made a change from the 1080TI to the 2070 Super. I did it out of boredom and felt like a change. Considered the 5700XT for a while, but, I didn't feel it offered anything different. I also considered the same thing you did, the resale...

Oculus Quest Virtual Link (PC Mode)

Why would Rift S owners be pissed right now? It's still a brilliant headset. It's still a faster, clearer display with very little SDE and it still has better tracking. The reasons a person might pick the Rift S over the Quest are still just as valid now. This news is great for VR as a whole...

    1070 to 2070 Super upgrade?

Yeah, It's not a change that I thought I would ever make. It was purely to try Ray Tracing without paying too much and without losing performance. The 2070 Super scratched that upgrade itch for me, as I got a decent price for my 1080Ti. Now, the surprising thing is that overall, it is an...

    1070 to 2070 Super upgrade?

I got my 2070 Super, an EVGA one, last Friday. I posted earlier in the thread that I was changing from a 1080Ti. It's a really good card. Thought I would regret the purchase, but, I am actually glad I did. And after playing with it for a few days, I can honestly say that you will be very happy...

    1070 to 2070 Super upgrade?

Taking RT out of the equation, I think it's still a good upgrade path. You will get a 60% performance increase in most games at 1440p. If RT doesn't interest you, maybe consider a custom 5700XT, cheaper and nearly as good performance wise as the 2070 Super.

    1070 to 2070 Super upgrade?

I am actually switching from a 1080Ti to a 2070 Super. Felt like a change and wanted to try out RTX, but didn't want to pay the high prices of the 2080 and 2080Ti. Originally I had planned to wait until the next generation cards from AMD and Nvidia dropped to change, but, I think by the time...
