Upgrade Plan - Will it work?

I am currently using an "off the shelf" HP Elite 7000 system. i7 processor, 4gb memory, etc. If I read it right, it looks like the power supply is a 425 or 450 watt model. I would like to upgrade my current video card (9600GT) to an nVidia 460, but I am concerned about the power supply not...

    Been there done that...

I was more single minded back in the day, and went at UD as [H]ard as I could. I did manage to finish in the number 1 position for the [H] team, for whatever that is worth. ;) After UD shut down, I went pretty [H]ard at F@H, but my career was cut short by the shut down of my work farm. But...

Congrats Team 33! I have not contributed much recently, but I am proud to have made some contribution towards this goal. I wish you all the best on your journey towards 2 billion! Anderu

    Forced Retirement from Folding

No, it had nothing to do with the Chimp Challenge thread. It was purely a matter of the tight-ass way they regulate internet access where I am. Where they measure it in terms of hours, rather than actual consumption. It was either stop, or call down the thunder....and there is too much at...

    Forced Retirement from Folding

About 20. Mostly single core, but there was 1 quad Xeon, and three or four dual cores running SMP clients. It was when I added those that the hours kind of rose to the point of notice. I am not sure off the top of my head why that would be any different, but apparently, it was.

    Forced Retirement from Folding

Well, it has been a good run. But as of yesterday, my work farm is down for the count. It wasn't that the boss had anything against running Folding on a few stations, but because of the anal way that internet usage is tracked where I work, the agents were making it appear that I had been...

    Looking for work

I am seeing this problem on my SMP units as well. What gives man? I was just starting to lay down some decent PPD. Figures. :(

    Chimp Challenge Team Problems

No worries. Anyone who has been around for a while, knows when things get like this, I just don't play into it. As for how I fold, I do what I can, the way that I choose. I always have. I don't even have a problem with someone who does not care for that philosophy. But I will not be...

Hit a million in Folding today!

For those that posted congrats on the milestone, I appreciate it. For those that had a different idea, I would point you to the label next to the name. 6.9 years around here. I have seen it all come and go, and I have heard it said any way you can say it. Bottom line, things like this...

Hit a million in Folding today!

I already put it in the correct thread, but I think this one deserved singular mention as well. :D Now over the million mark in two projects. Of course, one of them is now defunct, but as long as the score still shows on [H]ardFolding, I will display it proudly! It took just a little over...

I started in one project, now I am crunching for the other. It all gets us that much closer to the cure!

Just threw a Quad Xeon E5420 on the fire

Hell, I would buy it myself if it were a run of the mill Quad Core. But as it is a Xeon, those puppies run pretty expensive, and the wife would have my A$$! ;)

Just threw a Quad Xeon E5420 on the fire

It is kind of sad that I have over 20 computers folding, and this one SMP unit (as opposed to all the single core units), equals or bests the lot of them, combined! I have not even put a 2nd instance of the SMP client on it yet, so it could still go higher still! Amazing.

Just threw a Quad Xeon E5420 on the fire

If you are "jonzin" for a picture of the computer, you would find it boring. It is an off the shelf, HP Workstation-class computer. This thing is like a server in a mid-tower case. There is an empty socket, where a 2nd quad core Xeon could be installed, but as this is a work machine, I...

Just threw a Quad Xeon E5420 on the fire

Oh yeah! This puppy single handedly doubled my PPD! My goal was to reach the 1 million point mark in the first year. At this rate, I might just make that goal! :D

Just threw a Quad Xeon E5420 on the fire

It is a sacrifice, to be sure. But one I am willing to make for the good of the [H]orde!

Just threw a Quad Xeon E5420 on the fire

I just added this SMP "monsta" to my farm of about 20 or so non-SMP units. I am guessing this will result in a small increase in PPD? Yes? ;)

I think I have been around almost as long as Relic, but back then, I was running the UD project, with a little G@H on the side. Always good to see your name on a new post Relic!

ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 Drawing

Not only could I run my games faster, and better, but I could FOLD on it too! 'Course I would have to replace my wimpy power supply in order to feed this power hog, but it would be worth it!

    Calling Out Anderu!!

Sorry! I don't get by here as often as I used to, so I only just now saw this thread. I am not sure a race would be possible for me. All but one of the units I run are from a work farm, and I have as many borged as would be allowed. The only thing that really varies my output these days is...

Hit a Folding (Stanford) milestone? Post it here:

Topped the half-million mark, after 6 months or so. Not bad for a bunch of single-core boxes. One quad with the SMP client would likely vault me towards the "1 MEEELLLLIIIIOOONNN" milestone though.

    1. I would build a Folding rig worthy of its components, by OC'ing it as far as it would go using reasonable cooling methods. 2. Phenom. (Perhaps you could throw one of these in as well? ;)) Thanks for this cool giveaway!

    Cancer Death Rates Dropping Fast

This question has probably been asked before, but have our DC efforts contributed to any measurable improvements in the human condition as yet? I am overjoyed to see that rates for these types of cancers are dropping, but it sounds as if early diagnosis and lifestyle changes were the driving...

The DC forums have seen a lot less traffic for the last few months. I think things are still in a "recovery" period after the turmoil of the UD project shutting down, and the departure of some key members after the ensuing struggles here. There are a lot of lurkers, but our active posters have...

Just Installed The SMP Client - Question

The CPU is running at stock speeds. I would push it a little higher, but it is an HP (off the shelf) DC7700. There is no obvious way of making it run any faster than it does. I guess I was suffering from the delusion that the Core2 Duo was a crunching monster, and that running the SMP...
