Holy f*ck, sensitive much?
I just said that I didn't observe the seemingly widespread pump failures / leaks of AIOs.
Didn't say a f*cking thing about how AIOs were better, or that big air coolers were pointless, or that my use case is the be all and end all.
More than the (hopefully) better security and increased features, I wanted a firmware that would present a uniform interface across multiple devices.
It's a PITA to do tech support for family when they have who-knows-what router with who-knows-what GUI.
This way, everything from my "big a*s"...
You can get as fancy or as simple as you'd like.
My file "servers" have been simple JBOD setups for the past decade (see HTPC in sig, have 2x of those in separate locations)
Started out way back when with a bunch of Promise IDE HAs + ~200GB HDDs, now on 16x 8TB He8s.
ALWAYS! Doesn't matter whether it's a new HDD, or new-to-me HDD.
Quick zero write, then (full sector scan, full zero write) x3.
After all that, it had better not have a single, bad SMART attribute, particularly realloc count, and pending realloc count.
EDIT : My bad mods, didn't realize this...
