Remote file access on Synology NAS w/double-NAT & static IP

If I set up VPN access is this an issue?

I freaking hate USB type C connectors.

Pixel 2 here, had this issue as well. Multiple aggressive cleanings with a needle got out a bunch of lint and it helped. Now the charger stays plugged in, before I cleaned it it was super finnicky and would fall out with the slightest touch.

Remote file access on Synology NAS w/double-NAT & static IP

My networking friend was able to help me out yesterday, tldr is I'm dumb. To set the static IP on the USG we just had to assign it and DNS. Done! ISP router is no longer an issue. And you are correct, now I just need to set up VPN and we should be ready to rock.

Remote file access on Synology NAS w/double-NAT & static IP

I need to preface this by saying that I'm not a networking guy so please excuse some fumbling of terminology below. :wacky: I'll do my best to clarify anything that doesn't make sense. The environment I'm in is a shared workspace, kinda like WeWork but without any IT infrastructure or...

    NAS for small business

Nice thanks guys. Yep it might be DOA but the seller has been responsive & helpful as well. I'll try opening the cover to see if anything is loose, then button it up and let it run for 20-30 minutes to see if it will fix itself. If not it's return time.

    NAS for small business

Started setting everything up & may have an issue with my ebay-sourced S2500. When I plug it in the fans spin up, all port LEDs flash, but I get nothing from the power, status or stack LEDs or the LCD screen. Fans just spin as long as its plugged in. Does that mean its DOA? Or is there anything...

Stuck trying to setup NAS remote file access

Ha thanks guys, message received. I'm changing plans a bit and will set this up at the office before configuring so that I only have to get the networking part dialled in once. Once I have a gameplan I'll share it so that you all can give me notes before I try again. Appreciate the feedback so far!

Stuck trying to setup NAS remote file access

Thank you, this is all starting to make sense. To set up my home network I used this thread for guidance: https://hardforum.com/threads/guide-what-router-should-i-get.1965547/ .More specifically this tutorial: So I believe my EdgeRouter is functioning as the router while the ISP router is in...

Stuck trying to setup NAS remote file access

So I should remove the port forwarding settings I added and follow this instead?: https://www.synology.com/en-us/knowledgebase/DSM/help/VPNCenter/vpn_setup Will this allow me to map network drives on remote computers?

Stuck trying to setup NAS remote file access

Just got my DS1618+ going. Local setup was a breeze, but I am completely stuck getting remote access to work. Honestly I never thought it would be this complicated. Fair warning I am bad at this stuff and have no networking experience so please use small words and dumb everything down til even...

    NAS for small business

Side topic I'd like to bring up... I bought 3 6TB WD externals with the intent of shucking them and putting them in the NAS (whichever one I end up with). In doing more research it looks like they will be Blue drives, however, and I'm concerned about failure rates and the short warranty on these...

    NAS for small business

When I first started looking the TS-453BT3-8G-US was on sale, the connectivity and hardware puts the 1618+ to shame. I think one reason this search is so difficult is that Syn and Qnap have some of the absolute worst naming systems I've ever seen. Seriously, outside of Qnap's marketing...

Hah I'm on the fence about Qnap boxes because it seems like their support sucks and I'm concerned setup & maintenance will be too difficult. No effin way I'm building a ZFS/freenas box. ;)

    NAS for small business

Thanks for the advice, I have to admit even after thinking on this for a few weeks I feel like I'm much more informed but still back & forth almost daily about what setup to get. I also have a new requirement to add two security cameras and the easiest way to do that seems to be to use the NAS...

    NAS for small business

Just a quick update on my gameplan. I decided to wait 6 months or so to make the plunge for budget reasons. And when I do buy everything I'll get a 10G capable NAS afterall. Nuc or itx build for quiet?

You have more ways to make an itx rig quiet imo. More CPU cooler options, fan upgrades... you can even get a passive case (for all the $$$). Someone is selling a barebones rig in an ncase m1 right now in the classifieds. You could jump on that, rock the igpu and upgrade individual pieces later...

    Assembling a high capacity NAS

Yup usually one of the WD externals (mybook, elements) is on sale. I've been checking B&H, Amazon & Best Buy regularly to see who's running the best deal ATM. Also different capacities are cheaper per GB at any given time so if you're open to a 6 or 8TB drive you can jump on a current sale.

do new games suck or am I cynical?

So much this. The new metric for success is how often I play, not how fun the game is. Basically the new goal of these games is to frustrate me until I put more money in the slot. It's like if an old arcade game was in my bedroom instead of the arcade and right before bed each night it said...
