ACER PREDATOR CG437K monitor, better than ASUS?

Not sure if it's the camera, but that doesn't look great. I feel like even through compression and camera aliasing, I can see color fringing. I assume both of you ran cleartype tuner ("Adjust ClearType Text" from the control panel)?

What is a decent 27 1440p monitor these days

LTT had a quick take on the Samsung G7 and quite liked it, but no mention of price.

    LG 48CX

That’s a tough one. 4:2:0 makes me feel like I’m going blind due to the color fringing but I do love smoother frame rates even for desktop use. I use my rog swift for high precision stuff off to the right and keep my larger screen at 60hz personally but it’s going to be a “whatever works best...

Hold out for 10900k, grab 10700, or just go with a discounted 9900K?

It will work at 3.0 speeds. Samsung should be releasing their pcie 4.0 drives soon but probably at a premium.

New nVidia GPU - best way to secure one upon release?

Depending on the value proposition and production situation, it could be really hard to get the card you want at a decent price within the first few weeks, if the past is anything to go by. Other than blind luck, if it's a situation where there isn't enough stock for for day 1 demand at retail...

It's 2020, are there any good surround sound headsets on the market yet?

I have a pretty great head-if setup that costs a lot more than the average or even good HT system but the point is for personal listening at any time. When it comes to ambiance and spatial cues a real good multi channel system is superior when practical. Detail retrieval outside of that though...

Did someone test ECC RAM on new Ryzen 3000 ?

Sounds like windows logs error corrections to the event viewer. Statistically you start needing ECC as the amount of RAM goes up and assuming you actually utilize the RAM for data like financial or scientific data. It is not really needed for media creation or consumption. It’s more likely to be...

    More DLSS...

There’s a good video from DF showing how DLSS 2.0 works in control comparing it to other methods and resolutions including zooming in on small text and other details- it is not at all like an anisotropic filter with sharpening or some other “fake detail” method - it’s closer to a mid resolution...

It's 2020, are there any good surround sound headsets on the market yet?

I heard the Smyth at a Canjam and it was great, but be warned, they have a very long waiting list and there are questions about financial viability. There’s a long thread at head-fi.org that you can take a look at. It did prove to me that you can do a lot better than generic 3d effects and fake...

    More DLSS...

While I’m sure the majority are on non-Turing GPUs, over time I expect there will be more that upgrade their 10xx and older cards especially as the whole price spectrum is covered and more generations are released.

    Zen3 coming in 2020

I thought the Ryzen 4xxxU parts were zen2 mobile and available now since I’m seeing reviews. I agree they are released later and I expect Ryzen 3 will be desktop first.

    GPU for VR (Index)

I expect the new Nvidia cards will launch in the Sept timeframe, but the Index can use every last bit of juice a GPU can provide - a 2080ti would not be wasted if buying now.

Are you going for reference Big Navi/RTX 3xxx or waiting for AIB offers?

There have been several prior posts showing historically that when there was both a new architecture and a new process node, as with ampere, we’ve seen the largest jumps from nvidia. No guarantee regarding this go around but I’m hopeful that the much larger transistor budget and cooler running...

Are you going for reference Big Navi/RTX 3xxx or waiting for AIB offers?

I think a lot of people would see 2080ti performance at upper midrange price (vs $1000-1200+ even recently) as a nice upgrade especially if it comes with other features like updated hdmi etc. Where the 2080 ti falls in the new pecking order will also probably determine resale price.

Are you going for reference Big Navi/RTX 3xxx or waiting for AIB offers?

Nvidia has a much better track record with reference cooling in the last few generations, and the leaked pics of the reference 3080 (non-ti) looks very innovative/cool (pun intended).

    Dell - 32" LED Curved QHD FreeSync 165Hz $379.99

The everyday price is $399 on dell so 5% off. Additional specs: VA panel, HDR 400 and Freesync 2. Since it’s VA it’s not going to be quite the same color, response and blur-wise as an equally specced IPS panel but does have superior contrast.

Question for the veterans of PC gaming: why was the Radeon 9700 Pro such a big deal?

The 9700 pro was a special card at the time - it enabled new features (DX9/ advanced shaders) that allowed a true noticeable generational leap in games, was really really fast with current games at the time of release and reasonably priced for a top end card. I knew that HL2 was being developed...

HDR and color management. HDR400 is still awesome?

This is a really good point - there doesn't seem to be a separate "Wide Gamut" non-HDR mode that is well standardized and supported by games (or even most non high-end content creation apps), so this is the best result for wide gamut gaming outside of full HDR.

HDR and color management. HDR400 is still awesome?

"Is HDR400 still awesome?" (emphasis added) Not sure what the still represents, but I think you mean, "HDR is awesome, but is HDR400 still awesome as well?" and in that case, and IMHO, no. This is a very nice monitor and I had a chance to play with one for a while as part of a build for someone...

G-SYNC enabled but I still get tearing.

This sounds like gsync is not working. Which monitor? Are you definitely plugged into the gsync display port? some monitors also have non gsync ports like hdmi for convenience. RUMOR: NVIDIA to announce the GeForce RTX 3000 in August

DP 2.0 supports even higher data rates (and resolutions) than HDMI 2.1. To hit DP 2's max rates (80gbit/s before compression), active cabling will be required beyond 3ft as with Thunderbolt 3. Since usb-c/tb3 connectors are also official diplsayport connectors it just boils down to what that...

Here, opening a can of worms........GeForce QC.

Yup, I think eventually intel's approach with much more capable stacking and interposers could lead to some very interesting gpu designs, with potentially lower costs than the traditional monolithic die.

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

I believe TSMC has three different 'flavors' of '7nm' at various stages of maturity, and I assume average feature size (or density) and transistor cost is not the same on each. There were also big bets made on node allocation early on which forced Nvidia to choose from remaining availability...

What Is Your Personal Favorite Video Card of All Time?

Put the bottle down, sir. All kidding aside, cards that were a massive leap forward that you could get on day one and remained useful for years afterwards feel special, for me that card was the 9700 pro. Later cards are slightly faster, but at that point you think, well I've been enjoying that...

Add graphics card to my PC (non-gamer)?

GPU support is getting much more prevalent but you do need software to support it in order for it to make sense. The CPU you have has a small integrated gpu that does do video transcoding so if that’s all that the software supports you will see limited benefit (i.e. from “blue iris”). Plex...

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

I was looking into an AIO at the time of the 1080ti launch as well, real bummer with delays, and eventually limited quantity releases with major price gouging (IMHO) on the AIO. I learned my lesson there that unless there's high availability, competitive prices and better builds I'd be better...

RUMOR: NVIDIA to announce the GeForce RTX 3000 in August

God I hope the AMD and Intel releases are on the horizon when this card launches. AMD getting competitive did wonders for Intel's CPU pricing ( from a consumer perspective), I can only hope those die shots I saw today of the intel GPU (largest ever made by 4x) has a trickle down 3080ti...

In Search of Crisp Fonts [UW 32"] [Quadro 1000M 2560x1440]

Not sure if the bloomberg app plays well with Windows 10 display scaling - excel and SAP should). If it does, higher dpi font smoothing does produce very crisp text on moderate to high dpi displays (27” or 32” 4k) for example, similar to a high dpi phone.

What is the difference between Dell 3219 Q vs Dell 3216Q displays ? 3216Q is $500 more.

Based on your question and the way you are wording it, for you I would guess.. yes? By the way game playing may be OK but not be the very best on these monitors- they do not have response times and refresh rates comparable to good gaming monitors for fast games and multiplayer/ competitive (i.e...

What is the difference between Dell 3219 Q vs Dell 3216Q displays ? 3216Q is $500 more.

It’s probably tied to the source pricing of the panel and hardware. Premier color displays are targeted at people who need to be able to calibrate their displays and have and adjustable LUT, and, I expect these are grade A panels (“binned” for uniformity and defects), even if the tech is from...

EposVox: NVENC vs AMF/VCE vs QuickSync vs X264 - ULTIMATE Encoder Quality Analysis 2020

Good call I was skimming the early sections and skipped to the end and missed the mixed comparisons of x264 vs NVENC HEVC /NVENC h.265 (and navi encoder) - a non-intuitive comparison. I would think you'd test x265 vs NVENC HEVC for an apples to apples, although that is a long video maybe he...
