The Tech Buyers Guru has investigated open air (custom) vs. blower (reference) coolers. They tested a reference 780 ti and the MSI 780 ti Gaming models in both a full size ATX case as well as an ITX case, in single and in SLI modes.
They briefly cover the history of blower cards which I found...
Anandtech (Ryan Smith) has an article about it.
In short this is probably why it gets noticeable (stutters?).
Check out the article, it's pretty informative at least compared to PCPer's NV statement...

WPF editing (for example) will show a GUI editor view like this (in Visual Studio, completely drag and drop or manually editing the XAML):

^ I would echo the suggestion above, however use the new and free Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition which is fully featured!

Interestingly the Tech Buyers Guru just examined this question. They should be able to make your decision easier as you can weight the cost benefit difference.

The Tech Buyers Guru has a new RAM article, focusing on the speed this time.
http://techbuyersguru.com/ramspeedgaming.php
Take a look, it's an interesting read. It's always interesting to see the real world effect that memory has on (primarily gaming) performance. The conclusion offers solid...
4k is amazing, I'm going to guess most of the naysayers haven't tried it.
I think you have a great package. I'd only consider XDMA crossfire as an alternative (not the 980) but then freesync isn't ready so this is your best alternative atm. The 980 isn't worth the premium imo.
You'll have to...
Feel free to speculate but you don't have a big data source to back that up.

NVidia fried my laptop (and some friends', they didn't keep the receipt/box), I got a free POS laptop from the class action settlement after it had been replaced once and fried again.
Back to the review, thanks for the comparison and I look forward to the overclock results. 4k is demanding and we need all the performance we can get.
Big die maxwell and 390x can't get here soon enough.
Enjoy the power savings and go for the 980's then. Let's see if your tune changes when the 980 ti comes out.
All valid points, and as the mid-range NV card (marketed as high end but isn't the big maxwell), it's an impressive card from a technical standpoint. The only problem I have here is...
I am.
1/1632 only? Nice deflection, 4k monitors are getting cheaper all the time and certainly people are buying them. Even so, the high end display/gpu buyers have a couple choices, why would you buy a clearly not superior experience for 83% more expensive? You could buy 290x crossfire + a 4k...
Does that excuse NV from the poor SLI after they campaigned for it? I see your point, but it's still odd that they are slacking with that after a huge campaign and they even created software to monitor it (fcat).
I would expect more from an 83% more expensive GPU than "power savings".
The 290x is surprisingly future proof for high resolutions. 512 bit bus and XDMA crossfire are certainly aging well. The 83% more expensive solution can only match it a year on.
Pricing aside, it's a decent mid-range NV card and the interesting cards (and price) of the next year are yet to come...
The XFX 290x DD has been $300 from amazon.
There are 290's hitting $230. (HIS iceQ)
The amd cards are getting huge price cuts and at 4k are very competitive with the 970.
As far as 16x10 vs 16x9, I agree 100%. I like the additional height. On that note, 4k is so detailed and you have so much real estate that unless you set the scaling pretty high, I don't feel that 16x9 matters. That is an interesting thing that I hadn't thought about until you mentioned it...
4k Monitor - a users impressions
I just got a 28" 4k monitor so I would like to share my experience(s) along the way. Feel free to ask any questions you may have as information was very sparse as I was looking into the purchase.
I found this Windows 8.1 Scaling article very interesting...
Maybe read the article. It's not stating that, the 970 or 290 are the cards to buy (value-wise) with the new $299 price point the 290's back in the game.
Exactly, I'm not sure what the misunderstanding is?
What was hard to grasp?
Ahh, that is true! The 970 is actually competitively priced and therefore won't drop like a rock when the true 980 ti is released. I agree with that, I would sell now while you can get a lot more for the 780 ti and get a single or dual 970. You are 100% right on that aspect which I didn't...
I guess you mean that the mining demand did drive prices above retail for a while last winter, but even at retail prices were pretty high. (6970 was $380, 7970/290x were $550)
If your 780 ti's overclock they are very close to 980 oc so tri-sli is definitely faster. Personally I wouldn't downgrade to the 980's.
The 980 ti (780 ti successor) should hit within 6(?) months and it will offer more performance worthy of upgrading instead of sidegrading.
^ Exactly, the performance that they have listed seems accurate on the cards. It's an interesting chart imo, it gathers aggregate data into a trend I haven't seen before.
Do you guys get the chart now?
The r7 265 and 6970 are actually close, that line is the trend and cannot accurately run through the precise 3x speed or it would be jagged.

The red lines were my paint attempt to portray pricing of high end and dual card setups from NV and...
What do you guys think about the pricing trend? 28nm had some high pricing with only a couple value cards in the high end lately (290/970). Will the market withstand this increase, or will it only get worse?
You're welcome, I agree on the usefulness and it's always fun to compare performance with past generations. The pricing trends are very interesting and it's fun to compare releases to see where they fall. :)
They investigated memory overclocking and found the memory holes/inconsistencies which...
The Tech Buyers Guru has updated their Video card rankings with the newly introduced maxwell cards and current market pricing.
http://www.techbuyersguru.com/VideoCardRankings.php
It's interesting to see the concrete improvements.
I guess the rate used to be "doubling every 18-24 months"...
Exactly! Those who care about a few watts can have a 750. Puurrrformance please.
The 970 might be ok if around $300.
My 290x crossfire uses ~700w total system (can't remember if with monitor?).
Yeah, it's not a slam dunk by any means but it's pretty solid for $70. What's interesting to me is anything over the $200 or so price point doesn't differentiate too strongly despite costing even 50% more.
The point was to compare them on even footing. I guess they can all (the tested CPUs)...
An interesting comparison across the Intel CPU range.

It's a great representation of the current CPUs. The differences that e.g. cores, cache, and hyperthreading make are interesting to see.
