Thank you for your help.
Per the microsoft.com URL: I downloaded the 64-bit driver and installed it. I originally received this message:
I was able to select "Install" despite receiving that message, and then after it finished installing, I received this error message:
I went into the Mouse...
I am trying to figure out if there is any solution to installing an old Microsoft mouse driver over the newer mouse driver that comes with Win10.
Background: I've been using a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 since 2003. The mouse, in my opinion, is superior to all other mice simply due to...
I have been really happy with my Dell UP3017's. However, you can't buy them new from Amazon anymore. Are there any good alternatives that are 30", IPS, and 16:10 aspect ratio? These came color calibrated, which was also pretty nice, so that'd be ideal for the next monitor as well. I'm not...
Great, but still waiting on the Win10 to show up. I tried to DL the ISO from MSFT, but they wanted me to install some downloader to download the file, which I refuse to do, so I'm on hold for now. Also, the new version of memtest86+ won't boot on the machine either, which is disappointing, so I...
So you're saying you can test the RAM from inside the OS now? If so, what program do you recommend?
I haven't tried. I ordered Windows 10 and it arrives May 9th. I put an Ubuntu Server disc in there and the system would boot to that, so it sounds like my memtest86+ 5.01 is no longer supported...
Understood on the SSD. I've always tested RAM and HDD prior to use, just to confirm there are no issues with either. In the event I find any issues up front, it allows me time to swap it out with the Retailer instead of going through the warranty with the manufacturer.
I was able to get XMP enabled, but can't get the system to boot Memtest86+ 5.01. The motherboard doesn't recognize any bootable devices in the bios. It sees my DVD rom, SSD and HDD, but doesn't say I can boot to any of them and the boot device priority is greyed out. On another machine, I was...
I ordered 2x of the RAM's he recommended, so should be at 32GB. Appreciate your help on this. I never OC anything, but appreciate your recommendation on the matter.
This is the system I put together with pcpartpicker. Cost is $637 with rebates.

10-4. Then upgrade to new hardware it is. Do you have any builds you could recommend? I prefer to be heavy on the RAM side. That seems to always be my bottleneck.
Sorry for omitting the SSD. I have a Samsung SSD 840 Series 120GB with 75,888 Power On Hours.
The Adobe apps aren't an issue because I'm still running CS5 for Photoshop and InDesign along with Acrobat Professional 9.0.
I guess one concern I didn't think about was the longevity of my current...
I've been trying to avoid upgrading to Windows 10 for a long while now. It seems evident that I have to upgrade at this point. I'm trying to determine if I need to replace my current machine with a new one or whether I could upgrade specific components instead of the entire machine. Basically...
I've been using the HP 3600n now for 10+ years. The printer is extremely reliable and meets all of my demands. However, they no longer offer OEM toner for these printers. I've never tried aftermarket toner. I'll be giving that a shot before switching printers, but I am curious if there are any...
Wow, I'll definitely RMA it then. That's crazy there's a lifetime warranty. In the meantime, I'll pick up another 16GB like you said since I won't notice the speed difference between 1333 and 2200. As far as a shiny new ryzen rig goes, I'm hoping to stay with this rig for life. It'd take an...
Correct, current set is nothing to scoff at. Been very happy with it, other than running out of memory every other week. I noticed a passive performance drop when going from 16GB to 8GB. Thus, I figured if I went from 16GB to 32GB and upped the speed from 1333 to 1800+, I'd notice a massive...

One of my RAM sticks died on me today. Current RAM was CORSAIR XMS 16GB (2x8GB) CMX16GX3M2A1333C9. I'd like to take...
I have an ASUS P8B75-V. The manual states the motherboard supports up to 32GB of memory. It also states "You may install 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and 8 GB unbuffered and non-ECC DDR3 DIMMs into the DIMM sockets." To take advantage of Dual Channel memory, I was hoping to install 2x 16GB memory sticks. Can I...
What are the devices made by synology & qnap called? I'd prefer the hardware run the external unit.
I never thought about 2.5". That sounds promising. Thank you for that tip. She's still on Windows 7.
For 10+ years now, I've had my mom on a 3ware 8006-2LP raid controller that RAID1's her data. She's got an HDD failure and it looks like all of my HDD replacement options aren't compatible with that controller (controller has a maximum of 1TB drives and all hdds smaller than 1TB are old, used...
So I've got my new system built and don't know which setting to use for my RAID 1 array constructed of 2x SSD's. All of the info I can find says to use AHCI for SSD and RAID for RAID, but nothing mentions what setting when you mix the two of them together. Furthermore, I am running hardware raid...
The card fits in the slot just fine. My issue is that the card doesn't operate properly once in the slot. The BIOS displays the card 50% of the time upon booting. Avagotech (3ware) support told me that the card should post in bios 100% of the time during bootup. Avagotech was the one that...
I have an Asus P8B75-V motherboard. My GPU is using the PCIe x16 3.0 slot. I installed a 3ware 9650se in the PCIx x16 2.0 slot and it didn't work. Contacted Asus and they told me that only a graphics card would work in that 2.0 slot. Apparently I can only use the two slots for the same purpose...
I want a desktop for her. No need for a laptop... I also want the ability to install my 3ware raid card.
This is definitely pretty compelling. I was hoping to get an SSD. Am I better off going with this deal, selling the HDD and replacing the SSD or finding a different system that has an SSD...
Ok, with all the advice given thus far, it seems apparent that the system needs to be replaced. I will select a case, but need advise with the rest. Please let me know what system to build per the specs below.
P.S.: For all of those wondering how I made it this long on that system... it...
I'm trying to determine if I need to replace my current machine with a new one or whether I could upgrade a component (most likely my RAM) and gain a lot of performance. I'm trying to avoid purchasing more RAM unless it's going to provide significant performance improvements.
Current machine...
Is there any reason to go with the more expensive one? I'm not concerned about noise; I'm only concerned that the PSU has sufficient power to power the system and as low of a price as possible. Maybe there are some other factors I'm not considering, but if those 3 are the main ones, then I would...
