Same usescenario here. My 10" Xperia Z2 has served me pretty well, between this and my gaming desktop I haven't had the need for a laptop in 5 years. In the living room a ShieldTV does all the media stuff.
I've been pondering on how to replace the Z2 when it runs out of charge capacity, and...
Update, June 2: According to the SVP of Android, Hiroshi Lockheimer, the section was removed accidentally during a routine update. It's back now.
...wew?
Agree with you. Between the little time I have to play games, and as a consequence the $ that I can justify to put in my gaming PC, my Steam library has many "unopened" games in queue. I'm probably getting FarCry 5 in a couple years.
I'm pretty sure those games would easily run maxxed out with modern enthusiast cards.
But what about current mainstream/budget graphics? Perhaps even modern IGP, all of them running those very old titles@1080p or 1440p. I'd love that.
Thanks KedsDead for the input! Tried all of that, each of the 8 slots with only 1 DIMM, no luck :(
At this point it seems the MB is toast, I'll see if I can find a replacement in the local market, oh well...
Hello all,
I have a X99-A with a 5820K@stock. It's been working pretty well as an editing workstation for many years.
In the past weeks it has been doing weird stuff:
- Reporting ridiculously high values in the 12v input (between 13v~20v). This shows both in BIOS interface and AI Suite 3 as...
Excellent article! You've objectively addressed all the relevant points, including available storage options, platform cost and the nonsense of i7 7740X. Heck, didn't even know about an upcoming dual core!
2017 is a great year for enthusiasts indeed, I just hope the GPU market does the same...
I agree with you on this. The thing is, "shithole" is not a specific problem, just a general qualification. That's what I found wrong on your original comment.
But you know what? This ain't such a biggie for me to divert from the main topic, cheers from the third world ;)
It's ok if I think my country is a shithole, but when someone else says that in my face it hurts :P
Haha under your logic would it be ok for me to talk shit about any other country than mine? Nah, I don't buy that as much as I don't buy most SJW BS.
Whoa man, that was uncalled for.
Please remember that you can afford most of your electronic gadgets because they're made with cheap labour in "third world shithole" countries. Most people just ignore this fact but you chose to go one step further, huh?
Thanks for the article.
This shows we've come a long way in MB design and manufacturing. Then one day you buy a Crosshair VI Hero to remind you of such old times
What troubles me the most is the poor response from Asus considering this is a flagship model. And no, fixing it months later (if ever) doesn't count when you need to put your investment to work right now.
For my next purchase I'm going back to Gigabyte or MSI.
not yet official it seems, you can get it here:

Found the link in overclock.net, feel free to verify authenticity there ;)
In case you get a "half-bricked" MB, hope this could help anyone with this error (sorry if this was mentioned before, I searched in this thread and didn't find anything similar)
Sabertooth X99, BIOS 3402, 5820K@4.2GHz, 4x16GB HyperX 2400. After a year of flawless operation I got scared a couple...
I suppose you tried all this, but just in case anyway:
- Power off, leave PSU unplugged overnight.
- Remove CMOS battery for 1 hour.
- Replace battery, plug PSU back, clear CMOS, power on.
Before all that just for curiosity, your back I/O panel Flashback button+LED is on/flashing/off?
Edit...
I've tried the 9943 BIOS I got from another forum and had no luck. I remember I was supposed to use that instead of 9945 but I could give it a shot, thanks.
Does the CPU fan start but the system doesn't get to POST, or it just plainly doesn't respond at all? I ask because in my case, if I leave the system unplugged overnight then plug it again in the morning, the first few minutes hitting start won't do anything (MB LEDs are on though). Then after...
Personal experience here. For the past 2 weeks I've been trying to make this MB work with an R7 1700 and 4x16GB (HyperX Fury 2400), both CPU and RAM at STOCK settings and it's been a frustrating experience. Cold boot issues seems to be the norm with the Crosshair VI Hero.
As you can see, I...
Strange thing is all settings in BIOS are at default, RAM was correctly recognized from the first time in auto setting. Installing windows was smooth and had no issues until I unplugged the system.
- +1 on NAS, at least for the RAID 5 part.
- You said up to $3K, does that include video cards? I think that limits how much you can spend in MB/CPU/RAM.
- Your video processing applications rely more on CPU or GPU? If it's the former go for R7 1800X (you said you won't overclock, else I'd say...
Did you solve your issue? I'm curious because mine has a somewhat related (but not exactly same) problem. Been trying UEFI 1002, 2001 and 9943. No luck so far.
Edit: When you turn off the system, do you unplug it completely? (either turn off PSU's switch or unplug it from the wall).
Hi all,
I got this MB and was able to install a bare Windows 10 Pro x64 with UEFI 1002. Had no problem to recognize the 4x16GB sticks, I was so happy after reading so many incompatibility tales!
After that beacuse of reasons I had to leave it unplugged for 2~3 weeks; then yesterday when I tried...
...or with age you get more responsibilities and less free time ;) These days I have to limit my OC "research" to only a few hours because wife/children PCs are also waiting in line. I still refuse to fall for the console/pre-built segment but who knows? Priorities my friend, priorities...
Thanks Kyle for putting so much time AND money for this review! Testing retail samples is the extra mile and I'm sure many of us really appreciate it.
Because of this [H] is still the gold standard in hardware reviews.
A $219 Ryzen 5 1600 beating my 5820K@4.5GHz Cinebench 15 score??? I say this...
In a case like mine where I don't have access to that kind of TIM, would something like Arctic Silver 5 or similar still make a difference? Still worth the delidding/relidding?
