I am a DIT and have recently put together a rig that consists of the Sonnet Echo Pro, their pcie eSata 6g card with 4 eSata ports and a red rocket.
I know that speeds slow down when you are reading and writing to the same drive ( almost to 3g speeds by my experience) and it looks like the...
Hello everyone... It's that time of the year where I need a new comp... I do a lot of After Effects and Final Cut Pro and Photoshop stuff with my computer and was thinking of moving up to the 2.8 ghz i7 Macbook Pro (I need mobility with my editing) but I have heard rumors that the i7 is not a...
I am looking to get a new mac pro. I cannot afford to do the 12 core system and was wondering if it would be better for me and my editing (Final Cut pro, Adobe Premier, After Effects, Nuke, Maya) if I were to get a 3.33 6 core or 2 2.4 quad core processors?
What is the advantage to doing the...

Yea... I tried and Compressor is a bit faster... times are still off and the quality at the same settings is not as good (Unless going to an MPG2 or an apple native format such as QT H.264)
This would be the first thing I would think of except the last time I talked with Apple Support it was...
Hi, <- My casual Greeting
Hopefully there are a few video editors out there on the forum... cause this one is program specific....
So I have been an avid Final Cut Pro guy for the last 4 years. I love the program.... I can work very easily in it but recently I got a new job in which I have...
.
No... What I meant is that a game will be rendering graphics on the fly as you play... so I believe it is similar to working with graphic rendering programs such as FCP, After Effects and Motion because they are all rendering graphical information. I may be wrong on this but looking at it...
Im going to be doing a lot of heavy work... I am going to be working for a television network that is outsourcing all their graphics and videos to me.... So I need faster render times than what is offered at the stock level of those systems.
What I guess Im asking (in case it was a bit vague)...
I am looking to build a new Mac soon and am looking for some suggestions as to what to get and what to upgrade.
I currently have a G5 with 8 gigs of ram and a 22 inch cinema display...
I really want to increase the speed in which my video and motion graphics render. I want to be able to...
I want to build it myself. I used to do that a lot and really enjoyed the challenges of it. Plus I believe I can do it cheaper than having some one else do it for me and the leg work is half the fun.
I don't need a monitor. I currently have sufficient monitor room and will just move my mac...
I have been a Mac boy for the last 3 years and have lost touch with the world of PC's. I am moving into some programming / game design / 3d modeling (For game characters) and was wondering what you would suggest when building a rig. I want it to be able to handle the huge calculations while also...
I just got a new Mac Pro 8 core, which I plan to use for my editing and coloring. Here are the specs
Two 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Nehalem
8GB (4x2GB)
1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
2x NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB
I Installed my copy of FCP Studio 2 and came up with the following...
Well then that settles it... That is what I need it to do so Thank you I will be getting one real soon (replace my 2.0 dual core desktop for a little while... before I get the quad).
I would be interested if you could give me the names of any programs that will be able to copy 1:1.... i was...
This I understand. In fact that will be my next purchase after I move south... as for now my G5 will suffice... The problem I am having though is I need to have something to edit when I am out and about, and that would be the MBP... I was not aware of a new MBP coming out which throws another...
Is there any information on the upcoming MBP, as I was not able to find any. I am not in a rush...just need to get one by the end of Sept... and I figure the sooner the better, but if there is a new MBP coming out and it is that much better I would rather wait, but then again if the real...
Just a quick question. I am buying a Mac Book Pro and wanted to know if it would work with the P2 work flow as My Mac G5 does not (it is pre intel chip).
Are there any other requirements for the P2 work flow besides having an intel, and will a dual core 2.5 be enough to handle the video?
I am looking to buy a Mac Book Pro for my video editing. I am planning on using this as my main editing station (just hooking it up to my display when at home). My question is should I go with the 2.5 or the 2.6 dual core processor, and how much of a difference there is between the two of them...
Thanks for the info. Guess Ill be buying a pro with only the 2 gigs and upgrade than. Was going to do it today but the Mac store is down. Good thing though, it will give me time to search for some deals, or promo codes, although besides the employee and the student discount I dont believe that...
I am looking to buy a Mac Book Pro, and was wondering if it is upgradable with out sending it in. I want to get one with 2 gigs of ram and then swap them out for 4 gigs later (since it will be imensly cheaper to do it that way if it is possible).
Is this possible, or once you open the book is...
I have a 22inch display on my Mac G5. Occasionally I will get what looks like a burnt image on the screen.
I will open Itunes and then open Mozilla or Safari and any light colored background will display what looks like the burnt image of Itunes in it. even after I minimize Itunes or close it...
I unchecked the "Put Hard Drives to sleep whenever possible" and so far have not had the problem... but I did not put much stress on the system... since I only watched a DVD... and that does not require HD use. I will be doing some editing on Sunday... and I will download the XBENCH tonight and...
No... where would I find drive spindown?
And will that fix the lag in the editing?... I was under the impression that with 8 gigs of ram there should be no lag in editing...
I just upgraded my Mac. I added a 500 gig SATA drive and 2 gigs of ram. I took all my video files (I am a film maker) and put them on the 2nd drive while keeping all my programs on my main drive. For some reason when I edit with FCP now I get some lag where there was little to none before... and...

I am willing to go lower than $675.... It also come with a slew of programs with the disks and serials, and some in the origional box's. (Macromedia Suite, Adobe CS) Mac OSX disks, Final Cut (The programs alone are worth at least a couple hundred).
I am selling a MacBook G4.
It comes with AC adapter, 2 batteries, OSX installed and a carrying case.
Final Cut, and a few other program disks are also included.
I am asking $675, but will consider reasonable offers.
PM me or e-mail me gaer42@yahoo.com if interested.
I am not 100 percent sure it is a 17... it looks it and she said it was... but I will measure it when I get home....
SO.... Essentially you are all saying there is no need to format or fdisk... just put the disk in and it wont mess it self up (assuming I dont mess it up) like windows does...
I have recently bought a Powerbook G4. The 17 inch screen with 512 megs or ram and a 20 gig drive.
It came loaded with a previous version of OS (9.1) and a multitude of other programs.
My question is can I load OSX on it and if so How... (I know how to format and fdisk and setup a pc but not...
I am a video editor and have been in the market for a laptop. I have a friend who has a G4 Titanium and says she bought it about 2 years ago for 5000. She used it for video editing etc, and never had it on the net so it is not updated.
The question I have is she wants 400 for it and I think...
I bought my mac not to long ago (G5 Power Mac, 2.0 dual core) and opted for the 512 megs of ram, removed them and then added 4 gigs of ram I got off of NewEgg.
Just make sure the speed is matched and you wont have a problem... Or I have not had any problems yet.
As for the drives... Same...
Thanks, I was worried about buying something and it not working in the system. So I will just have to match what I have as far as speeds and I should be good.
Thanks
I got my G5 about a year ago... (Dual 2.0, 4.5 gigs or ram, 500 gig hd, 22 inch cinema display) and I love it.. But I am looking to upgrade.
I know that the ram is interchangeable, as it does not have to be Macintosh ram so long as the speeds and type match... Is this the same with the Hard...

I am looking for a program that will allow me to convert avi, and mpg into real media... I want to do that because I know major editing programs do not support a direct conversion from real media to editable format.
Does anyone know where I can get such a program.?
The Mac store (the same one I went to that said the monitor was fine and it was the video card) Replaced the monitor.
It turns out that the warmer the monitor got the worse the image got. The pixels went from 1 dead one on the right when we got there at 515 to 10 before we were going to leave...
I know there is nothing special about Mac monitors, but I got it because I could cover that and my computer under the same apple care program instead of dealing with more than one retailer.
The reason I did not notice right away is that the Mac does not yet get the use that it will as I am...
