Recently upgraded to an AMD 2700x (from an Ivy Bridge) but still am using a GTX 970 video card, would $300 be enough for a good upgrade that would be worth it?
On a non-related note, playing FarCry 5, game always crashes 7/8's of the way through the game on a cutscene with the female baddie...
Well, great... I have 2 Foscams and a D-Link... I don't use any cloud service, but do use an Android app to monitor activity on my cell phone when I'm away. I also use Blue Iris for motion detection and recording, and am going to assume my cams are vulnerable based on the models listed. I'm...
Thanks Vengance, I've been really busy lately, but will explore further... I believe the port forward on my router was set to both UDP and TCP. I'm going to delete the entry and recreate it to ensure no mistakes.
I have an ethernet wired house, with 3 ip cams hardwired on the network. Two Foscam and the one D-link mentioned in the title. Internally I use Blue Iris, a program to monitor and record, and IP Cam Pro on Android to view on 4G when away from the house. The Foscam's are fine and viewable on...
Amazing, I've thought of this exact thing for years... I even nicknamed it the "Slinky Effect" :) Which leads to a pet peeve, people texting at lights not seeing it has changed, than accelerating and barely making the light while I have to stop... pisses me off every time.
I currently have an Asus RT-N56U hooked to Comcast broadband, using their modem in a pass through mode letting the router handle all ops. Are there better options out there these days for performance/speed?
Horrorshow, yes, he has addiction issues for sure but recently got a decent job, hoping that turns him around. Early stages of a divorce too, so life kind of sucks for him now. The BIOS was flashed with the latest version through Asrock, so don't think it was bunk. What does pulling the...
Thanks for the tips guys, after checking, it is an Asrock H170 Pro4 motherboard. It does have a CMOS clear function for the UEFI.
Chas, when you say "scrub" the UEFI, you mean the same as clearing it via the jumper, right? If worst case there is some type of virus on the UEFI, would that...
Hey all, need some troubleshooting advice...
I built a computer last year for Mom, decent rig running Win 10, Asrock motherboard, an SSD and fairly standard other stuff. Recently, a family member (male, 30 or so) moved in due to life hardships. Every since he began using the computer, it has...
I have an ASUS Sabertooth Z77 motherboard with an LGA 1155 socket currently using an I5-3570K Intel processor. Would I see any performance increase going to an I7-3770S? If so, about how much? I realize it is an older setup, but going strong and waiting on a GTX-970 to beef up my video for Far...
I've not had good luck with used parts and prefer new, though I have looked. There is a page on EVGA's site indicating a 4 gig 960 might be coming out. Would that alleviate a bottleneck?
As for AMD, I don't like extra power requirements or heat...
Well, I think I've about decided to pick up a GTX 960 as I only game at 1080P... any preference between the EVGA or MSI flavors? The MSI was reviewed favorably here on HardOCP, but the EVGA seems to have higher clock speeds right out the box. Comments welcome :)
Well, after some research, I'm considering upping my budget... thoughts on this card?
EVGA 04G-P4-3975-KR GeForce GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support Graphics Card
Since the GDC is this week, I'll wait to see if anything happens there as far as announcements. Lots of good advice here, still waffling on direction...
I have a Corsair 650 PSU, and do run power to my current video card so assume power shouldn't be an issue. How much more power would a 290 require over a GTX 960?
I know my vid card is old, GTX 260, and evidently it won't run Far Cry 4, so an upgrade needed. I'm running an i5-3570k, 8 gigs of ram, and a couple 22" Samsung monitors. I'd like to spend less than $200, and I don't run at max res for games as an older gamer, but do enjoy 1st person shooters...
Ok, I've uninstalled the AI Suite and still have the sound. It IS affected by speaker volume which does mean it is a .wav file and notification of some type, but there is no other type of notice of anything on my computer. This is very frustrating for sure... one thought, it does seem to...
It is definitely a .wav file as it reduces in volume if you turn the volume down. It occurs before even loading any programs in Win7, so it is either AI suite, MultiMon or a widget. What else could it possibly be?
CPU fan at 1000 rpm, that seems low...
Interesting idea, I'll check my connections... that sound has not gone away for sure. It is more of a "cork pop" sound, and is a system sound of some type. I don't use the AI suite, it was installed by default, would an uninstall affect the operation of my motherboard?
Just checked, it is not...
Sorry guys, I wasn't getting email for replies... the sound comes out of the speaker, which are plugged into the rear panel... I'm thinking it is some notification from AI Suite II, the ASUS software for monitoring my motherboard, but I don't see anything really out of the ordinary.
I'm getting an irritating sound from my desktop computer, one I've built... ASUS mobo. There is a sound that has begin in the last few weeks, sounds like a cork pop, or when you put your finger in your mouth creating a "pop". The pop even occurs when no apps are open, occurring every few...

Hi all,
Of course since it is XP, it needs to go... here are the questions:
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
She is strictly an email, surfing, shopping kind of woman. Nothing fancy, no fancy graphics, etc..
2) What's your budget? Are tax...
My step-daughter has an Acer Aspire One netbook, and evidently set an HD password and for the life of her can't remember it. Is there a way to get back into her computer? She does own this device and is a bit ditzy, not surprised this happened to her. It is basically a brick at this point, and...
It didn't flash anything, the message was immediate after selecting the bios update file and attempting to flash. The EZ Flash utility reject the file before commencing the flash operation. What system instability could cause this to happen Raja?
