As you found, it's always better to use the M-Flash in the BIOS, or whatever is the lowest level most stable and controlled environment.
I'm an IT guy and I avoid Windows based BIOS updates whenever possible.
.
No trouble with XMP, but I always use GSkill memory.
I use their memory on all of my systems, never an issue.
Hopefully the BIOS update works for you.

>>Hypothetically, if both the 5900x and 5950x were the same price, and had the same power draw - Which would you choose?
5900X.
My admittedly simple reasoning was based on the heat issues with the 5800X.
The question came down to, "Do I want dual 5800X cpus or dual 5600X cpus?".
I'm very...
I'm not a big RGB fan or expert, but I've been an electronics and IT professional for many years.
So that's my angle coming at this.
If I'm approaching this problem for a customer, I'm assuming all of the parts are good unless they were smoked by tinkering.
My focus here is going to be this...
Weird problem.
Verify polarity is correct.
Look at the bottom of the board to see if any solder bridges (blobs of solder) where they don't belong.
Contact ASUS tech support and see if they have any ideas.
Amazon should swap you for a new one if you are within the return window.
ETA...
They changed the memory timings so it's very likely that some people will have to use different settings.
Use the beta 1.51 if that worked better for you.
On the version numbers.... 1.51 was a beta version that they did not elect to make into a release version.
The beta versions do not count if...
Absolutely real. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
I saw it on the small screwdrivers at a Menards store a few years ago.
May have also seen it on drill bits.
Some of those packages definitely made it to US store shelves before they were "pulled". lol
Similar artwork from the same Chinese...
I don't even want to know about the lawsuit that caused this to be on the package. :D
I thought this was a joke, but I actually saw it in the store too.
The new v1.50 works fine for me. Looks like better XMP memory timings too!
ETA: Did have one issue.... this new BIOS killed my MS Office activation, not Win-10 though.
Never had that happen before. Will have to buy another cheap Office key.

Agree on the CYA thing.
Older boards may have smaller BIOS chips that are not able to hold the code for the 5000 series CPUs and still retain the code for the older CPUs.
I think I'll be ok with my B450 Tomahawk Max too, it's a newer board and should not have that limitation.
.
I don't think the B500/B550 boards will have a "point of no return" BIOS, I think they will always support all 3000 & 5000 series CPUs.
I believe it's the B450 boards that will no longer support any other CPUs once you flash the 5000 series BIOS.
.
I think the above note is interesting and most relevant.
Maybe of help and something to try for anybody still having cold boot trouble.
Do you have a particular boot disk you used to run the efi-flash?
Also a link to the efi-flash you used would be helpful.
.
It looks like I have only two WHEA errors, but those were from the all core overclock I had on the 3900XT.
No errors on the 5900X that is currently set for all auto except XMP enabled for 3600 memory.
.
A while back I bought up a bunch of new USB 2.0 8GB thumb drives on Ebay for this reason and working on older customer equipment.
I've found that the Lexar brand is very reliable, no trouble with them. I have had trouble with Verbatim and Sandisk.
.
>>I just went with the first one on the list and only after I got all the way through check out did I go back to see what I got. :)
Sort the combos on price low to high so you can try the low ones first. Got my 5900X on the second lowest price combo that way.
Dropped off the crappy combo memory...
I actually added an NVME drive as part of the same upgrade project with the 5900X.
I installed the NVME drive first and got it imaged and running without removing the NH-D15. I had to remove the GPU but that was it.
It will help to have a long phillips head screwdriver for the small screws on...
Thanks.
Temps are a bit cooler than the 3900XT, about 32C at idle and 70C with a moderate load (IBT).
Good luck with getting your 5900X. I was watching Falcodrin on Youtube and he announced a drop on Newegg before it showed up on the bot scanner.
Newegg was combos only but I think that helped...
Sorry about your situation.
If I was in that situation, (and have been with other tech products) I would take it out to the dumpster and be done with it.
Try not to RMA everything on these kinds of problems, that wastes money and time and doesn't address the problem.
Early on in this thread I...
Pulled the 3900XT and upgraded to the 5900X.
Very nice performance, noticeably faster than the 3900.
Still running the 1.40 BIOS. No problems running GSkill 3600 with XMP enabled.
Although since the 5900 does a much better job of auto boosting, I'm not going to run all core like I did with the...
Yep, what he said ^^^.
That's common when changing memory.
Good way to avoid that is to load BIOS Defaults before changing out the memory.
At least turn off XMP.

Newegg frequently bans him too, but the chat shares info on drops.
This at least gives you a chance against the scalpers.
ETA: Sorry for the dupe, didn't see it was posted a few pages ago. I'll leave it though.
.
I'm running the NH-D15. From memory when I installed it, I mounted the memory side fan a notch higher because
I didn't want it resting on and vibrating the memory. No major issue.
I'm running the 1.40 BIOS, I try to stay away from beta versions.
.
No Silence mode is not the default, I believe Balanced is the default.
Boost mode makes the fan run high speed for high-end overclocking.
I thought you have this board?
.
The newer BIOS versions on the X570 Tomahawk keep the fan at 0% on Silent mode unless it gets hot.
You hear the fan for a second at power-up, but that's it.
