+1 that. The Philips is limited to 4K at 60Hz (DisplayPort 1.2) or 30Hz (HDMI 1.4), whereas LG OLEDs can do 4K at 120Hz (HDMI 2.1). Picture quality is also better. OLED's non-RGB pixel layout might be an issue to some, but in that case you could choose some LCD monitor in the same size category.
Living in Finland might have an effect. The temperature never goes over 30°C and a third of the year it's freezing (inside it's about 20°C).
Or then those whose monitors burned up are the most vocal in forums.
Anyways, that monitor has a design problem and/or bad components. Some extra...
I've had LG C9 65" now for 3 years, about 8 hours daily use (web browsing, videos, games). OLED brightness is normally about 20%, but for movies I turn it up to 60-80%.
I keep the Windows task bar visible. I've only changed Windows to use dark mode and have a nearly black background image. No...
I hope PG42UQ will work at 4K 120Hz on a Macbook Pro. (I'm after smoother mouse movement on the deskop; games don't matter on Mac.) Macs have lousy support for high resolution and refresh rate, and for example the LG OLED TVs only run at 60Hz: https://tonsky.me/blog/monitors-mac/ Might be due to...
So many promising displays, finally. 🥰 The time to upgrade from my trusty old Philips BDM4065UC (whose top-row backlight LEDs are occasionally flickering but not yet burned out) is approaching. Maybe Q4 this year.
I'm especially curious about the upcoming QD-OLED panels, since they should be...
I'm running my LG C9 65" using 60% OLED LIGHT setting, and most of the time I also set Energy Saving to Medium, to make it still dimmer in the evenings. I use the OLED TV as a PC monitor, mostly for web browsing and watching videos, and too much brigthness burns my eyes. For dark/low contrast...
I've always had a normal right eye and near-sighted left eye. I was okay without glasses when I was small. Then I got into computers around 1999 (at first 15" CRT and then 19" CRT) and soon noticed that after some while on the computer I would instinctively lean closer toward the screen - like...
Interesting. 39.7" at 21:9 screen ratio means 93x39cm screen area, whereas 39.7" at 16:9 ratio means 88x49cm screen area.
I might accept trading 10cm height for 5cm width and higher DPI. Anyways I seldom have important stuff at the top 7cm. My window arrangement is a text editor/IDE in the...
If my math is right, from the same gen 8.5 motherglass that LG cuts their 77" panels, instead using the leftover for cutting two 48" panels they could cut five 35" panels with better efficiency... 🤔 If they would use the whole motherglass for cutting smaller panels, the could produce fifteen 35"...
Likewise. I'm hoping for more 4K displays in the 36-40" range for productivity (i.e. programming). 8K would be even better - sharper text.
I've used the 4K 40" Philips BDM4065UC now for more than 5½ years both at home and work. My home BDM4065UC is starting to show signs of LEDs burning out...
Has anybody tried swapping the top and bottom LED strips to extend their lifetime? I'm occasionally getting backlight flickering near the top edge, so I'm suspecting the LEDs will die soon.
My sound setup is KEF R500, KEF R200c, KEF R100*, Elac SUB 2070, Denon AVR-X3300W. Additionally I have Sennheiser HD 650 headphones and sE Electronics USB2200a microphone.
* Two for surround and two for zone 2 in other rooms (mono).
Yes. :D One is for the desktop, the other is for my home server. It was the biggest box I was able to find at the time and I was so happy with it that I got a second one as well. (y) Enough room for expansion for anything: a big stack of HDDs for the server or water cooling for the desktop...
As you wish ;)
(Philips BDM4065UC)
Also pay attention to the VR sensors and cable management solution in the ceiling:
And if VR feels too new and fancy, there are other options:
Has somebody managed to get the front panel off, so as to completely remove the protective plastic that goes under it? Maybe also get access to mod the annoying LED? Pictures would be nice.
I unscrewed the two screws that are behind the panel, but that only make it about 0.5mm loose, so I was...
I just got it today to my workplace, so I have used it just a couple of hours, but it worked just fine on my Macbook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2014).
At first there there were some problems getting it to show the desktop, but I got that solved: At first it showed just color noise. Then I changed...
Is here someone who is using this display together with a Macbook Pro 15" Retina? Does it work well? Does it work with 30Hz or 60Hz? http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202856 indicates that it would work only in 30Hz mode, unless it's a MST display.
The burn ins are most prominent near the top edge, where you can see the top row of my desktop icons. Also in the top middle the color is non-uniform (some parts are darker than others), which roughly corresponds to the black sky in my wallpaper, though I'm not 100% sure about it. There's...
Here's an example of burn-in/image retention on Dell 2405FPW, which is a PVA panel. On gray background, in the top edge my desktop icons are visible (you can even read their text, though this picture is too blurry to show that) and you can see a shadow of the black areas from my wallpaper...
