I once got an old P III HP from a thrift shop for $8 and it had a Voodoo card in it and worked great. I used it for a few years and sent it to the recyclers. It was old then but the retro movement hadn’t come into play yet. If I still had it, I bet I could get $200 for it
So a little digging and I found the 3050 does use a standard usb 3 header just as the older ivy bridge dells Ive had do. So I could use a splitter cable and a USB 3 to 2 header adapter. Theoretically that would work.. but would it really? I’ve adapted USB 2 header to usb C to get the front...
Hit a snag with the Bluetooth side of the wireless card. Didn’t realize it takes a usb connection for the Bluetooth to work. There is no free internal connection. I’ll have to get an adapter and loop it through a vent in the case to a usb port
Li-on is far more dangerous and unstable, and they are more common than lead acid these days. Lead acid batteries can become dangerous and vent gas when the plates are sulfated while being charged. The charging circuits on most systems will shut the system down in the event of a battery fault...
Normally if I do a prebuilt it will be a Dell Optiplex or a Precision for a desktop, for laptops I generally do Latitudes. But I recently got a Lenovo T470 and I quite like it better than any Dell I’ve had.
I’ve even put Dell 7010 motherboards in custom cases for budget gaming computers. Since...
I had a weird thought it would be cool to have usb ports and wired controllers on an end table. But this is a 6th gen Dell Optiplex so I have to be real at the same time.
I’m on Visible with a grandfathered party pay plan. They keep telling me I NEED to switch to the new plan, mentioning 5G and “ new features “ but say I will keep the $25 per month.. my plan includes 5G and I know they will swap that price at their earliest convenience. If one of the features was...
This was along my thinking. I’m planning on getting the Dolphinbar for the Wii stuff as well because it’s reported to have less lag and that makes sense since the bar itself is the physical connection to the computer, and only the wiimotes connect to it
Call me old fashioned, but I’ve used an Xbox 360 wired controller for a decade on my PC. I’m turning my plex server into a media center gaming computer. Fiancé wants Wii capability and I’ve had it set up to stream Steam link for a while now. So I will need wireless controllers being it’s...
It seems to run well. I brought it up to 2x resolution with DX11. I didn’t put a frame counter on it but it’s buttery smooth except for a couple hitches that the wiki mentions
Yeah I’ll have to. In the past when I’ve emulated ps1 and 2. I’ve played right off the disc. I’ve never actually had to ‘obtain’ Roms before. But Google will show the way
Interesting, that stinks. But at least I do have legitimate copies
LG 8164b works per Google information.I might have one of them. If I do, I have a gold mine, if I don’t. No way am I paying $150 for a used one
I do have legitimate copies of the games, rather my fiancé does. I haven’t booted Dolphin up yet because I ended up having to reinstall windows due to a borked boot record and couldn’t recover it. I wonder if it can play off the disc?
If you have one 6 pin, then you can make it work but it’s on the edge. A 6 pin (75w) can be adapted to 8 pin very easy. And then you can get 54w out of a sata to 8 pin adapter. 75w can pull from the slot.. so if you do the math. You would have 204w available with a card that has a 200w tdp. It...
Thanks for digging that review up. I didn’t even know there was a wiki. After reading that I’m pretty confident it will be fine.
I plan on getting a dolphin bar and getting Wii remote’s working. I regret getting rid of my Wii. GameStop gave me $20 for it ~ 10 years ago. I just wasn’t using it...
My Fiancé likes Nintendo Wii. I just can’t spend $200 on one knowing Dolphin will run Wii nearly perfectly.
What is the minimum AMD GPU that will run Mario Kart Wii for instance? I’m wondering if the R7 450 4gb that I have ( 4gb DDR5 HD 7750 basically) in my Plex server will work. I’ll move...
I’ve done both Optiplex and precision T3500s. Depending on what you have, you may be able to re case your computer. Gen 2 to 4th gen is generally possible.
You can split the sata with a Y and then adapt the sata into molex or a 3 pin connector. All you do is put a washer behind the screw for a fan and orientate the fan where 4 grill holes match up with the fan mount holes. I’ve done a Dell or 2. Also the intrusion sensor will not trip a warning. I...
He’s waiting for the local better cable company to service the area. For right now. I showed him how to turn on Wi-Fi hotspot on his cellphone when he need’s internet down there. He’s on a prepaid plan so there is no risk of extra fees. Keeps him happy for now
Exactly. 3060 is generally a 1080p/1440p card but by bumping the resolution, it can offload the cpu.. I used 1080p as an example because the 3060 will bottleneck a 4770k at that resolution. Most people wouldn’t run a 3060 above 1440p, but it probably has enough power with some settings lowered
To a point, the higher resolution will offload the CPU. I used to use DSR to upscale my 1080p resolution for some games when I was running a W3690 and a 1070. Frames improved quite a bit
The cpu will bottleneck at 1080p. Just bump the resolution and the 3060 will handle it
If light gaming and office work is all you need than getting anything more than a used optiplex and a dedicated graphics card is all you will need. Even as great as AM4 is, it’s just as dead end as that older optiplex. I’d wait until AM5 comes down and buy something decent. Reason is AMD...
I ended up getting a replacement copy for $3. If I come across anymore discs that are bad like that I’ll buy a skip doctor. I used to have one and saved many music cds. I think this one could possibly have some rot but it also has one single bad scratch and the center hub is cracked. I didn’t...
For $100. You get an older Dell mini tower in the $40-80 range and then pair that with something like an HD 7750 or a Dell R7 450 ( same thing except all 450s are GDDR5 )
A SFF will work as well but limits future gpu upgrades. A Dell RX 550 is $80 on its own but would run Minecraft well as...
The one that I really want to see is scratched but not badly. It looks cloudy. A good used copy is $6 so I don’t want to buy hardware. Out of 105 discs only a couple have read errors. I wonder if it will play in a dvd player. I don’t even have one hooked up anymore
I have gotten some DVD loose lots to expand my plex server. A couple of the movies that I would really like to watch are showing errors even though the discs are really not that bad. Is there any software that can rebuild the data into something usable?
The VRAM is used as a frame buffer. The 1060 3gb is actually not as powerful as a 6gb variant. It has less Cuda cores. It’s more than just the vram in that case.
The fastest card that CPU can possibly support is a GTX 1060 level of performance. The 3050 is a little faster with some RTX...
