Forgot to mention. :\
Sadly, no, they aren't Sonus Fabers. They are Aurum Cantus's. A chinese manufacterer.
They sound absolutely mindblowing for the price. If you go grey import, you can get a pair of these to your door for roughly $800-900 USD. They have a much fuller sound than I expected...
It's a rebranded/repackaged 26" 720p Philips that was sold here by a large computer shop. I doubt you could get the same one across the pond. It's decent image but some ghosting in dark scenes.
Modified Cambridge 640c -> Mapletree Ear+ HD -> Pass Aleph M clone -> AKG K-1000
Modified Cambridge 640c -> Mapletree Ear+ HD -> Grado RS-1 / Beyer DT770/250 / AKG K-340
Modified Cambridge 640c -> Sennheiser Baby O.
Everything but the 640c, Aleph, and K-1000 is being sold, after which I'll get...
It's going to be quite hard to get 100Amps out of 2V through 64ohm resistance. I'm going to agree with MrX, while full volume won't necesarily be good for the headphones, I doubt that it'd blow the drivers. Not before you kill your ears anyways.
Haha, this is awesome. Some quotes I would never see over there I suppose. :D
though I feel the same way, but crazy as he may be, Patricks posts allways start an entertaining thread.
Omegaslast: Nice collection! Those Cambridges look like a very fine speaker for the money.
Notebook and desktop harddisks are two seperate things. The first is made to be shaken up a little (note that allmost allways if something dies on a laptop it's either the dvd rom drive or the...
Wow, now there's a nice contradiction. One beyer spokesperson saying it's just a DT770 with a MIC, and then one saying it's not. This is interesting, I'll be calling Beyer on monday to get to the bottom of this. Thanks for bringing that post to my attention, I definitely won't say that it's the...
Great job!
Yes, they are the same. Look up the thread here I created named 'For the gamers' or something like that. A european Beyer spokesperson/distributor on Head-Fi has verified that the HS-300 is actually a DT770 with a MIC.
Edit, here it is.

Nice review!
This leaves me a bit confused though. A couple weeks ago a friend stopped by with a pair of HD-485's and SR-225's to hold a little mini meet. I brought a RS-1, and DT770/250. The HD-485 had a very, very strong bass. Sloppy, but it had a very large volume, even more so than the...
If you can manage to go secondhand and evade customs fees, that budget will put you right into the one of the best electronica setups there is (maybe need to stretch the budget a little for the extra shipping for the amp).
My main electronica rig is a Eddie Current / Laconic EC-01 amp with a...
Smartass he may be, but he did answer your question. ;)
No, with the stuff you have it's not worth it... put the $100 AUD aside for a better headphone first.
If you can't hear the difference between $100 and $20 headphones, my option 1 seems quite reasonable. In that case, you're just...
Two options:
1. You have crap ears.
2. You have no experience with mid/high end audio equipment (which I suspect so since you asked about a Boostaroo). In that case your post, while somewhat funny, is complete and utter crap. Actually, even if you had experience, your post is complete and...
If you can spare the money, go for a RS-2/RS-1. While I don't like the RS-1 on solid state (stock headphone out of a Zhoalu 1.3) as much as on tubes (Mapletree Ear+ HD) it'll be a substantial upgrade from the SR-225. Like Computerpro3 said, it's an upgrade in every aspect. I've had the SR-225...
Don't. Move right on up to a PS-1/HP-1/HP-2. If you love the in your head sound of the RS-1, the GS-1000 won't deliver as much. It has alot more bass and soundstage, but the Grado magic is a bit gone.
Still, that's just my impression after a very short listen (I don't have the GS-1000, but...
I haven't heard any of the real high end headphones (Stax Omega II's, K1000, HE60/90, etc), but so far I find my RS-1 through the Mapletree Ear+ HD the best I've heard, and I highly doubt that the beforementioned would better them by a long shot. The Sony's are VERY far from the greatest cans...
Right, in that case, C-Pads aren't a bad option. However, I have no trouble comfort wise with Grados. Lot of people do though, so you wouldn't be the only one. :)
Yes, but I'm on the other side of the world compared to Larry, so that'll add some cost. Also, my pair of DT770's isn't in the best shape and I'd rather have a new pair modded, so I'd have to buy a new pair here, which is much more than the $165 Larry charges.
Anyways, it'll take another month...
The only problem I have is that the combo that Larry will sell for $365 is a 80 ohm version. The amp I have incoming (a EC-01) for the DT770 is very powerful and most suited for the 250 or even the 600 ohm. I'll see if Larry will supply the 250 ohm for the same price.
Larry is the one behind www.headphile.com. For $200 for the mods, plus $165 for the headphones if you buy them off of him, a total $365 will get you this:
Woodied and recabled DT770's. Apparently it tightens and extends the bass, and brings out the midrange. These are highly regarded...
It's nice, but: I selected some fancy colors, added some leather, and an inscription, and it was $370.
Larry will give you so much more for that amount.
That's pretty far from my experience with the two. Granted, I haven't had the A900 but the A700 instead. I wouldn't call the HD-595 to have a boomy bass at all. It's far from as heavy and dominant as the AT's. Different ears I suppose. :)
This may read like I am a bit of a HD-595 fan, but on...
Note that I don't listen to Hiphop, but do listen to electroclash which is just as demanding (if not even more so) in the bass.
I'd leave the DT880 as I don't find it to have enough low end for me.
The AD900 I've never heard, but I suppose it's a A900 that feels more open and less...
Why is it, if being rendered by a PS2, that these screenshots are a much higher resolution than 480p? And no, they are not enlarged for easier viewing, they are much too sharp for that.
I wasn't aware of the fact that the PS2 outputted higher than 480p.
Sure they can, it's just that a similarly priced solid state is more likely to have a bit more detail. Then again, overall solid state doesn't sound as good as tubes. It seems that the smoothness of a tube amp makes you think, if you switch to a solid state, that the latter has a tad more...
What's your experience with high end tube amps?
Solid state amps will most likely be able to present more detail, but they don't sound as musical as tubes. Tubes sound a bit warm and smooth in a way that very few solid state amps can reach, and just highly addictive to some, including me...
Your link points to a cd player.
In my experience, the HD-595's benefit very little from a dedicated amp. I've owned multiple HD-595's and multiple amps.
