    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

How's the CRT support in Windows 7 with NVIDIA's drivers? Still crappy? I'm going to be installing Server 2008 R2 tomorrow (essentially a glorified Windows 7), and I'm wondering what the best route is to take. I have an 8800 Ultra, which I may or may not upgrade to something else. I like to...

Don't. ATI's CRT support is even WORSE. I have not been able to get any sort of decent resolution + refresh rate control happening on my Server 2008 box (aka Windows Vista) with ATI, so I'm back on NVIDIA now. What's sad is that I paid a nice premium to get two 4850s on launch day, only to...

Wikipedia Threatens Artists for Fair Use

Depends. Is hardocp2 trying to directly compete with HardOCP? Is hardocp2 trying to make a profit using the HardOCP name? In this case, no. Therefore, it constitutes fair use under US copyright law. I am in agreement with their use of the domain and name as such, however, the whole "Wikipedia...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

I came to a sad realization today. I will have to switch to another display within the year, probably in a couple of months. Over the past year or so, my monitor would suddenly go out of focus for about 3-4 seconds, and then "pop" back into focus. This happens a few times a week. Recently, that...

    Are [H]ot Deals dying out?

Not now, they won't. As others have pointed out, the usual super hot deals that we find are sold at a loss or at cost, often purely for strategic marketing reasons or to spur sales of other items. Those get cut back in a period of recession. So, the main hot deals you'll find these days are...

Can't agree with you. It wasn't overpriced considering what it offered at the time. This was 6 years ago, a direct-view CRT offering 1125i/750p (I'm guessing the ATSC version was 1080i/720p) at 36". It was succeeded by the Qualia 006 and Qualia 007 TVs, although they were LCD and LCoS...

    CryEngine 3 GDC 2009 Demo

Looks like most of the work in CryEngine 3 was for the particle system. I'm guessing the rest is just simplification of various portions of the engine and optimizations. More like CryEngine 2.1. Well, that's what I gathered from what was shown, at least. And Crysis sales were shitty because...

I have an old X2VGA2 that I'm not using, I'll sell it to you if you want to go the component-to-VGA route -- well, provided shipping from Montreal isn't too bad. If you want one new though, it's still cheap cheap, $60+shipping I think; it was a more expensive back when I got it. :( It was...

555 = Open; they leak a bit, let in a lot. Poor mids; lower frequencies lacking detail, although bass level in general is heavier; sounds wider (due to being open); good soundstage. 280 Pro = Closed; leak nothing, let in nothing. Bass level is low and falloff is a bit short, but low freqs are...

Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB $99 - FS

Sorry, it was a while back, I should have clarified that. I'm think they fixed it with a firmware update or something, although I myself am still a little weary of the F1 series. Then there are Seagate's recent plethora of problems and sub-par customer service as of late (for me at least). So...

Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB $99 - FS

    1. Samsung F1 is louder. 2. Samsung F1 uses more power. 3. Samsung F1 has a higher rate of failure. Unless you have fast and large storage needs, there is no reason to not get the GP drives over anything else. I use my larger drives for data, while my 2-platter 640s are for software.

    Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 s $298.00

Yep. This is the main reason I got it. Sound sucks, but the video is worth it. It's really a "compact SLR". The problem with that is that it, like other compact cameras, has a much smaller CCD. The thing about the SX10 is that it doesn't shoot in RAW.

Sony KV-40XBR800, 4:3 screen, but it displayed a 4:3 image at 40" and 16:9 at 37". The biggest HD direct-view CRT, it had a resolution of 853x1080 interlaced, and even had an HDCP-compatible DVI port. The cream of the crop was the KD-34XBR960 and KD-36XS955, 1440x1080 interlaced through HDMI...

    Good crt monitors

FW900 is not the best CRT, but it's the only widescreen one I've ever seen for sale in North America. It is one of the best, but is easily outdone by some high-end 4:3 CRTs, like Sony's own F520. NEC/Mitsubishi makes a few nice ones, as well.

Eh? With the current state of LCDs, they cannot, under any circumstance, have blacks even close to a direct-view CRT. In fact, Sony's direct-view 1080i CRTs (only available up to 40") are pretty much unbeatable as televisions compared to today's plasmas and LCDs, with the sole exceptions being...

I had trouble with the latest drivers as well. Switched back to the "GTA IV" drivers (180.84) worked for me under Server 2008 x64 (aka Vista x64 Fancy Pants Edition). Not sure why anyone would use a beta OS as their primary OS, though. Not a good idea.

Your average thief wouldn't steal an FW900. If you come home one day and it's missing, your friendly neighborhood nerd took it. I'm still looking for another FW900 to put next to this one. Ideally, I'd have 6 of these babies together, 3 on 3 stacked. I'd tear apart the bezels and put them...

As the previous two posters have explained, you can pretty much make a CRT monitor run at any resolution provided it has the bandwidth and its internal components can support it. LCDs and Plasma have fixed pixels, so their max res is it. CRTs can run at any resolution "natively", but it has a...
