OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Hey Gea, I'm getting the Tty.c: loadable library and perl binaries are mismatched (got handshake key 10c80080, needed 10f80080) error. I don't think I changed anything in the Perl environment because I only use this machine to run ZFS + Napp-it. Is there anything I can try to fix it? Oracle...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Hey _Gea, hope you're doing well. I'm wondering if you've ever run any tests in napp-it with several hundred ZFS Datasets. I like to have my data very modular/packable/moveable so I have automated the creation of new datasets for every new task we work on. I've accumulated several hundred...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Thanks Gea. It must be something wrong with my system. I can't remember exactly what it said, but it was stuck at something about the guest user. I have set it with chmod -fvR A=everyone@:modify_set:file_inherit/dir_inherit:allow folder/name/path/ but I'm confused how I can also add another...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Hey Gea, not sure if it is just an issue with my system but resetting ACL permissions doesn't seem to work in the Napp-it GUI on 18.12 with Solaris 11.4. I'm doing it manually via: chmod A- Folder/Name chmod -fvR A=everyone@:modify_set:file_inherit/dir_inherit:allow folder/name/path/ Does...

    10 Gb Connection

I use Solaris, not Omni but I believe in some OSs it might default to ashift=9 if the disks are 4K but emulate 512.

    10 Gb Connection

This likely means when you created the pool, you created it with ashift=9 but should have done ashift=12. Can anybody else comment on whether I am right on this? In any case, it shouldn't be anything to worry about, but it can cause performance issues and you should enable proper alignment if...

    10 Gb Connection

Bro, you're letting your ego get to you. You're clearly wrong here. In post 13 you speculated that his issue is disk, not network (fair point), but then stated: This is clearly not true. Spinning disks often go over 1Gb/s (125MB/s). Not always, but they can, and you said: Then in post...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Hey Gea is it normal for the disks to show up twice when using Multi-Path? 2 HBAs, each with one cable connected to the JBOD. How do I add these disks to a pool? Which do I select of the two? EDIT: Fixed by adding my drive vendor and model to /etc/driver/drv/scsi_vhci.conf.

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

The pool was already marked as degraded for at least 24 hours, but napp-it did not send an alert. For some reason running iostat on the drive triggered the alert.

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Hey Gea, just reporting on a bug I've mentioned a few times. Pushover has never sent alerts for me for degraded pools on Solaris 11.3 and Napp-it 16.x,17.x. Today I had a degraded pool and did not receive an alert. While investigating, I did an: iostat -e c3t4d0 As soon as I did that...

Have a big ZFS backup problem....

Can I recover from this? I sent snapshot1 through snapshot3 to a backup server zpool. I then deleted snapshot1 through snapshot3 on the source. I can no longer send incrementals to the backup server zpool, because I can't do snapshot3 to snapshot4, because I deleted snapshot3 on the source...

    Is anyone actually running a U.2 drive(s)?

Currently using an Intel 750 U.2 in a SuperMicro Server. Like a user above said, it's good for being able to pop the drive in and out from the front of the server.

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

I'm only using domain\administrator=unix:root. Do you mean you have to create an actual user named guest? Thanks! I'm trying to learn more about the ACLs on SMB shares so I want to see the commands Napp-it is outputting when doing ACL modifications. If you get the chance I think you should...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Having a curious problem, thought you guys might have an idea what's going on. I added a Solaris 11.3 server to my Windows Domain with ID Mapping so I could have ACL's on Pool/FileSystem1. Pool/FileSystem2 is set to every@=mod and guestok=true because I want guest access on FileSystem2, but...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Yea I definitely like that ZFS works out of box without issues on Solaris based OSs, but I'm being more and more tempted by ZoL because of wide hardware support. Unfortunately even with pool failure, my Napp-it doesn't send a message. The testscript that sends a test message does work though...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

That's unfortunate. It seems most people are moving towards ZoL anyway though. Gea have you ever tested the Pushover functionality on Solaris? Unfortunately it has never worked for me. The test messages work but I never get alerts for pool degradation. For instance, my log shows: ok...

Hey Gea. I'm running Napp-it on a few servers, some Pro, some free. On the 17.01 Free server, I only have the option to use Pushover. On the 17.01 Pro server, I only have the option for Pushalot. I need Pushover on all the servers. I have tried multiple browsers but on the 17.01 Pro servers...

I don't have an email server to test with unfortunately. The auto-service is enabled for every 5 mins. /var/web-gui/_log/tmp/ is empty. I ran auto.pl from command line and still nothing. Auto.log is empty. Is there anything else I can try?

    M.2 in RAID 1 or 10?

I think RAID will still be valuable for those looking to have the combined IOPS of multiple drives. Even if sequential reads of one drive max out the PCI-E interface, you will still get better IOPS with two drives. (Non-sequential random reads and writes).

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Just a heads up. I tested in Virtualbox with Solaris 11.3 and no alert was triggered. I confirmed that Pushover is working with a test message. I created a two disk mirror pool. Shutdown the system, removed one virtual disk. Rebooted, zpool status shows "DEGRADED" and C2t1d0 UNAVAIL...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Awesome! Question about alerts. I'm using Pushover and confirmed the test message worked. But when I added a mirror disk to my rpool, the rpool was of course "degraded" until resilver completed. But Pushover didn't send a message. Will Pushover send a message when my pools are degraded, or...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Hey Gea, still loving Napp-it! Just got "Pushover" working and it's awesome. Small suggestion: I'm on the latest Napp-it but it's still linking to some old documentation. If you click on "Mirror rpool" it gives a link to a Solaris 11.1 article with some outdated instructions. It tells you to...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

In my experience getting Sol 11.x to work on Supermicro Boards requires resetting BIOS to defaults, and then disabling VT-D and SCU in the BIOS. Additionally did you try using IPMI to virtually mount the ISO?

Hey Gea, I'm unable to detach a disk from a pool and don't understand why. I'm trying to detach the first unavailable drive in this VDEV, which seems to have been replaced by spare-1. But when I try to detach it I get the following error: zpool detach "backup" c0t50014EE2607DDC11d0 oops...

Mobo compatibility for PCI-e NVMe (Intel 750)

Don't waste a PCI-E Slot if the motherboard has a M.2 slot. Get the Intel 750 in 2.5 inch form factor. It has a U2 connector which you can connect to the M.2 slot with a U2 to M2 adapter.

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Quick question on which drives are bad on this system. The "degraded" is next to the spare-1, spare-2, and spare-3. Are the spares degraded or the drives that say "unvailable"? And why does the pool still show degraded if the spares resilvered? Output of zpool status: NAME...

Hey Gea, I'm on 16.03 Pro with the Monitor extension. Is there a way to view long-term L2ARC usage stats? I want to see if my L2ARC is being used at all. I've been reading a lot that L2ARC is often a waste. When Should I Buy Readzilla/L2ARC? (Oracle Storage Ops)

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Hey Gea, just purchased 2x monitor licenses, thanks for all the great work! Question about snap jobs: Is it possible for me to edit the code to change how it names snaps? I want it to just be the date in the form of month/day/year instead of the very long string that Napp-it currently...
