After doing some more research on the specific model of the laptop, the HP G62 series, it seems that there is a common problem with having a black screen and no POST.
It seems that many people are having weak solder points on their GPU's and it causes this black screen. I'm not sure if its just...
A friend of mine thought it would be a good idea to reinstall windows from WIndows and not install from boot.
The windows install went as far as the "Completion stage" and thought it froze so he restarted the computer. Ever since then the screen when started just has a black...
Even if you don't go with wood, which I think wouldn't quite fancy everyone, you could at least stick with the engraved lines that span the case as that looks excellent. That in itself is enough to give some flare to the case.
Maybe you could even use a different color on the lines to make...
Thanks a bunch for the link WiSk. I think for my purposes I could just relocate the line filter/power socket to just outside the PSU.
So about 13mm is the most I can shave off after removing the line filter?
I like this idea. +1
At the end of the day it's just the side panel and the front gets the clean look everyone desires.
Since I assume the side panels are interchangeable, this shouldn't really change the cost of production at all since a clean side panel has to be made anyways.
Hey Wisk. As soon as I read your sentence it dawned on me. I've been through your Compact Splash build log a couple times before! My only problem is that I don't have the tools or skills to build a custom enclosure for this PSU and was just thinking of modifying the existing housing.
Three questions to ask:
#1 Has anyone modified an SFX PSU casing to slim it's 63.5mm dimension?
#2 How much clearance is there between the fan and the components underneath?
#3 Would I have an issue if my radiator fans pushed warm air through the PSU and exhausted it?
#4 If yes to #3, could...
Using the side ports would be nearly the same as reaching to the back. The majority of people put their computers to their right. It's second nature. You would still have to reach.
If type C USB is going to become mainstream in the near future, current USB technology will be obsolete and the...
Im not sure if I like the USB's on the side. I usually sigh when I see cases like this. (Ex. Bitfenix Prodigy).
I still prefer option #2, or the power button at the back.
If you are thinking of moving the USB's to the side you might as well move the power button over there too.
Liam Li wouldn't ruin their 'reputation on an undeniably important part of their high end cases by using an inferior, unreliable product. We are talking about Lian Li here, not Corsair... :p
This might be a niche product now, but the amount of SFF products we have seen come out in the last...
Looking forward to your build log.
I liked the DIY version of the Metis because it doesnt have the logo at the bottom front, but the gold case feet are a real turn off.
If anyone knows or when someone gets a chance, could they measure the internal height of the case from case floor to case...
I think the only things that would need to be rearranged is to switch positions of the DVD drive and the 2.5" HDD mounting location on the side of the case, then switch the ends of the case to match.
I'm not sure how any cables, aside from how it looks now would be more exposed with this...
Exactly my thoughts.
The case is already a winner. It just depends what Dondan expects from this case. I also think the Lian Lian Li riser is adequate (Again, assuming it's as flexible as this case requires it to be.)
You are right. They really want the case because it's friggin' cool, whether or not it is the best business decision for DonDan at this point.
How many Compact Splash's were made? The Splash is and always will be a niche case as awesome as it is. The A4 can do much better as a mainstream...
Hmm. I guess to explain what I mean in simpler terms would be to just flip the entire case upside down and use it like that. The only thing that would need to change is the orientation of the slim DVD drive. Would that work?
I've been following this for many months and I've wanted this from the beginning, but $220 before taxes and shipping is quite expensive.
If the other Lian Li Type D riser works reliably, I would recommend selling your case with that option. Not only would you get a complete reliable package...
I just have a question regarding case orientation?
Do you think it would be more efficient if the motherboard was flipped 180 degrees with the GPU exhausting from the top and the 140mm fan Intaking air from the bottom, blowing fresh air through to the top of the case?
Ive never had the chance to test any slim fans, but I compiled a small list of fans that I think should be great for air or watercooled SFF builds. Let me know if anyone has tested these fans.
Deepcool GS120 120x20 Fan
Building a smaller case with a mini GPU and an SFX PSU is nearly, physically impossible. Maybe a half liter difference at best.
The only way to achieve a smaller size is to use a DC-DC powerboard like an HDPlex and run an external power adapter, otherwise the case cannot be shortened.
I was looking to purchase a Seiki 50" tv.
Is it true that 1440p even at 60Hz doesn't scale well for gaming and regular desktop use?
Anyone using any higher resolutions in between 1440 and 2160 that does both well?
So, is there now an additional 10mm of space between the left side panel and the SFX PSU? For a total of 56mm~?
Thank you so much Dondan. I think it would be good publicity for your campaign anyways. ;)
Seeing a rendering of an unofficially supported 120mm AIO in this wonderful >7liter case doesn't interest you? :)
I know this would tickle the fancy of a bunch of people who might be underwhelmed by the CPU cooler support. Also the fact that this option would allow users overclocking support...
I think its a fine idea as long as there is a disclaimer.
Knowing that an AIO cooler will fit with technically no modification required, is an amazing bonus. The vent holes could likely be the mounting spot for a radiator or fan, so it is in a way, unoficially supported.
Thank you for the measurement. So a slim 30mm radiator and 15mm fan will work. Maybe with some modding you could squeeze a 25mm fan if you are lucky.
Any chance a 140mm AIO could fit?
P.S. This really opens up alot of opportunities for this case. An under 7litre case that...
I am completely aware that you can't make any changes now. I was just curious if it would fit with modification, which I failed to mention. My fault.
Would a slim 30mm radiator like this accompanied by a slim fan fit? If modification is necessary what would that entail...
