Looks like I was given a 345watt PSU. Are these guys kidding me? They market the XPS as a gamer's pc but give a crappy PSU? I can't even upgrade to anything worthwhile with this.
Well, I just bought the Dell XPS and I tried gaming with it. Big mistake. The stock 5450 HD video card is an utter embarrassment. I'm trying to build a sim racing rig by way of piece meal so budget is always a concern. I've asked around and most seem to recommend the 560ti or 6870. I'm...
I thought Cyberpower made DVD software :D
Anyway, I went ahead and ordered the XPS 8300 w/ i7 2600k for $909 shipped. Should be here next week with a new 47" 3D LED TV. I'm going to run this exclusively as a HTPC more than likely.
Having owned a Compaq before I know the troubles of...
The build pretty well predicates on being able to do it on a financing term so the XPS is about as high as I've allowed myself to go.
I've never heard of the Boutique Builders... kind of thought it was a general term for the 'other guys', i.e HP, Lenovo, et al.
Thanks for the...
Anyway I can find out what motherboard they use for the XPS 8300? 16GB of memory will be as much as I am willing to go anyway in this computer and the graphics card uses PCI-e, right? As long as it is a standard for the next 3-5 years I'm find. I don't plan sinking a lot of money into this for...
I don't want to run Eyefinity or anything crazy like that; just one monitor and tv simultaneously preferably but not paramount. I usually watch my shows which I download on my monitor or on the big screen but the interconnection is anything but seamless so if there is a video card with enough...
I'm not doing extensive video editing as of yet but I'd like to keep the Apple stuff separate from the Windows stuff. The Mac Pro has been known to have trouble doing boot camp and video card upgrades is costly not to mention tedious with flashing and whatnot. I just want a dedicated Windows...
I'm running a Dell 3008WFP but for games I can scale down. Games I play are wide and varied but I want to get back into sim racing, so rFactor, rF2, Codemasters F1 games, etc. I also want to run Adobe's CS5.5 suite.
I plan on running it to my tv as well so for games I'll more than likely...
Hi guys,
I'm looking to get a new computer but 5 years has lapsed since I last upgraded and my knowledge of hardware isn't what it use to be. I've decided to keep things simple and have pretty well decided on the Dell XPS 8300; I just need suggestions on a few component upgrades and choices...
Can someone assure me I'm not alone in that this monitor does the "snap, crackle & pop" number when it cools, i.e when it goes to sleep or computer is turned off. I suspect it's just the plastic and metal contracts as it cools but damn it's really annoying.
Guys, I bought mine almost a year ago and I'm not sure which revision it is but it seems as thought the brightness is dimming on me or another possibility is that I have grown accustomed to the brightness and perception has changed.
WHen I first received it, I couldn't use it on more than 20...
May I ask where you bought the lamp? I've been looking for something like that to fashion in a similar way. LED also consume far less energy than your flourescent counterparts as well.
Walmart perhaps? Nice setup.
Not really. People who are indecisive tend to over react to little quirks and write off the thing entire which is ridiculous. I never owned a 3007 but I can vouch for the 5 seconds warm up time coming out of stand by but I thought that was due to my machine. I play games on this thing Xbox360...
UNRELATED TOPIC: Do you guys know how to take the VESA plate OFF? I can't seem to find any tools at my disposal to take care of it; at first glance, I thought it was Allen Keys but these have a star edge to them.
Thanks very much.
It's not listed, apparently. Monitor w/stand is 34lbs. I don't imagine the stand is any more than 5lbs, if that.

No access to said flyer but someone on another forum I was corresponding with said he seen it which was 2 days ago so don't idle while it's still good. Call and ask.
FWIW, they are advertising in Canada (Quebec) flyer for $1299 so use that as a bargaining chip.
Regarding warranties. Someone said it is non-transferrable for LCDs through Dell.
Slightly off topic but does anyone know of a reputable manufacturer that make an armature for this beast? I can't really acclimate to the height. Ideally I would like the bottom of the screen to sit flush to the desk and the only way to do that hitherto has been to set it on top of the box it...
Boxing Day? You must be Canadian like me. So I need to ask; where did you get that little shelf in your renovated state? I have a lot of junk and that would really help clean things up a little.
Love it. Absolutely adore it. Are you an art student? I see a drafting table but no Wacom tablet or the like.
I love the simplification of your resources. Everything is very accessible and looks so much more opened after you cleaned up. That said, if you decide to get a big LCD TV, it...
I'm getting a Mac Pro when Leopard comes out and would like to also install it on my Tiger install base. Is it technically/mechanically possible (not legally)?
HP NAS has 320GB + 500GB with plans to do 500GB + 500GB.
Spare drives will get used in a spare computer soon.
foto from another thread.
Not technically conforming to the rules, but I read it after it was posted. Apologies.
The word you're looking for is Stacks.
I'm going to incur the wrath of the mods for saying this, but I'll "try" it out as soon as it's released in retail forum. I'm sure it's going to be a satisfying experience though. Soon after, I'm getting a MacPro or another MBP equipped with Leopard...
Any chance I can get that sent to me? I haven't experimented with Applescript as yet. I'm not a programmer; the concept makes me nauseous. It really does.
