WTB: X299 OC Formula or X299 Dark

Hope everyone is doing great. Love my CH VIII Hero/5800x setup but in looking to setup my PC for both music/gaming, the lack of PCIe lanes and boards to accommodate the layout that I need has me looking to go from X570 to X299. After looking the past few weeks, the x299 OC Formula and Dark...

    BlackBerry not Dead Yet

Windows Phones had a native transit app (Here Transit). I still got my Nokia 1520 Bumblebee stashed away somewhere.... :( Probably the best phone (from a build and feature standpoint) I've ever used.

    BlackBerry not Dead Yet

100% agree. RIM focused too much on enterprise and their classis designs/OS and waited too late to bring BB10 to the market. Same is 100% true with Windows and them going from 6.5 > 7 > 8 There is no revisionism in my view of BB10. It wanted to be the best of both worlds and that's why they put...

    BlackBerry not Dead Yet

*sigh* BB10 is still 1 of the best, if not the best, mobile OS's I've ever used. While BB10 was still security focused, it had nothing to do with the other vendors being more consumer-focused and everything to do with developers creating apps for the platform, which happened to WebOS and...

Apple will remotely install software to scan all US phones for child sex abuse images

Yeah....*sigh* I was rooting for a lot of alternatives but at the end, we only have 2, which will then pilfer everything that made the other systems awesome and folks who have never looked outside will act as though it is the greatest thing to ever hit a mobile device.

Apple will remotely install software to scan all US phones for child sex abuse images

Before app developers paved the current landscape, we had these options. I miss BB10 so much. *staring at BB Passport* :(

Windows 11 leak reveals new UI, Start menu, and more (UPDATE - added source for Windows 10 retirement date)

Crap, in my book, Windows 8.1 with its standard start menu was a winner. After using it for a few days, it was just second nature and got me to everything that I used faster than before but those reasons that you mentioned you liked 8.1 always gets lost on a lot of people.

Windows 11 leak reveals new UI, Start menu, and more (UPDATE - added source for Windows 10 retirement date)

Til this day, I will still say that Windows 8.1 was the best version of Windows I've ever used and every device that can still run it in my house does. But I understand that people are reluctant to change and that totally killed the direction that Microsoft was going in and it would have been so...

    Apple Event Reveals iPhone 12

Honestly, it is different strokes for different folks but I also spend less time on my phone than most. I had the Razor Phone 2 and for me, the novelty of the high refresh rate wore off in about 2 days but how scrolling looks on my phone is the least of my concerns. That was one thing that I...

Apple to Announce its own Mac Processor

In front of me, I have an iPhone 8 and Pixel 3a. Thinkpad for work at home and Mac at work. Crap, in my drawer, I have a Nokia 1520 and 925. I can be in any thread that I But to my original point, as a mobile OS, it was a better OS, in my opinion. What it lacked was apps. Most...

Apple to Announce its own Mac Processor

As a Mobile OS, I would take Windows Mobile over iOS or Android ever day of the week without question. The only problem with Windows Phone, as well as BB10 and WebOS was when it came to market. It was always an app issue and not because of problems with coding. Microsoft made it super easy to...

Sophos UTM working....but should I switch to the Unifi Security Gateway

I thought about going towards the USG from Sophos but I felt that it wasn't worth it. I purchased a Fortigate 60F and will repurpose my Sophos UTM (C2758 with 16GB) as a "pure" proxy/load balancer. I would have went XG but I wasn't onboard with the hardware requirements, so I went the ASIC route.

    More Windows 10 update fail

It's crazy reading this every time it happens. Honestly, I would have stayed on 8.1 if given the option. Didn't have to worry about this Windows as a Service BS, some of the best parts from Windows 7 and 10, all my legacy parts/software still worked. :(

So, it turns out that 5700 cards won't work on Windows 8.1...

I will still take Windows 8.1 over 10. In my opinion (and hindsight), 8.1 was the perfect sweetspot. The only reason I'm using 10 now is because I went Ryzen instead of my x79 build that I planned.

    Radeon 7 (Vega 2, 7nm, 16GB) - $699 available Feb 7th with 3 games

It was throwing me off when everyone was talking about price, like the Founders Edition dropped in price. It will be easier to compare when AIBs get ahold of the GPU. Considering they decided to go with HBM, I figured the price would be around $600-$700. All in all, I'm still on the fence.

From looking at the motherboard schematics in the user manual, it looks to be the correct one. Changed the setting in AMIBCP and then flipped a few bits using HxD and it shows up with the link speed for each port but then adding the card got me nothing. I reset the CMOS and nothing, so I'm...
