    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

I don't think thats possible since each monitor was individually tuned at the factory. Threy all have different defaults. What is your G2 value at? Most Trinitrons I've seen have it around 140-150 by default, so if yours is significantly lower than that it probably means it was changed.

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

Yeah thats the thing, the one you want to change does not have a name, it's just a number. Sorry this isn't very easy to describe without Windas in front of me. I guess the best way is by telling you how I discovered it in the first place. I was looking over all the .dat settings in Windas and...

You need to buy a usb to serial adapter/cable, such as this one. http://tinyurl.com/6ywl4x But whatever you do don't buy this one. http://tinyurl.com/662jeh I've had nothing but problems with that cable, the driver is a peice of crap and will crash your whole computer to a blue screen with an...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

I have fiddled around with that setting on a different monitor, the reason it isn't sticking is because each color temp has it's own seperate C_MAX_B_MAX value, which is the one you want to change, not the global one. I don't have Windas running right now so I can't tell you exactly where it is...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

Just wanted to follow up on this, I was talking with my dad yesterday (who just happens to be a forensic scientist) about the AG coating. Turns out until recently he was teaching at an IT college and was working with a spectrophotometer. Wish I would have known that when I took the coating off...

Yes please do send him the coating for analysis, I'd be very interested to find out if it could be suitably replaced. I noticed a couple more scratches on the screen of my newly acquired FW900, they don't bother me that much but it would still be great to have a perfect screen. I'd remove the...

You are very right, this thread contains a lot of good info but with it scattered over so many pages of posts it's pretty much useless, organization is definitely needed. I think an owners club sounds like a great idea. I could probably contribute a good amount to it since I own a total of 4...

Program to adjust gamma for games?

Yes powerstrip works very well for gamma, I frequently use it with games and movies. But you say the nvidia gamma and digital vibrance don't work? They did the last time I tried em, but you're right I just checked and they are now for desktop only, wtf? I know nvidia likes to remove...

Do all TN panels have flawed backlights?

Yeah they pretty much are all that bad. Although I have seen a couple Samsung 226bw's with somewhat acceptable bleed, but I've seen other 226bw's that were horrible so they clearly aren't all good. So I guess it is "possible" to find something decent but I'd say your chances are pretty slim.

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

Well after watching craigslist since 2005 I FINALLY found someone selling an FW900!! The guy lived about 30 miles from me and I couldn't pick it up since I have no car but I managed to convince him to deliver if I paid $20 extra. In total it cost me $195. Not bad considering it has a mfr date of...

Stupid question: Selling a broken monitor?

Considering people frequently sell those or similar monitors in working condition for around $50 I would say your chances of finding anyone who will buy a broken one are pretty slim.

    I really like CRT.. but....

I have several 21" Trintiron CRT's that only weigh about 67 pounds each. Sounds like yours is excessively big. Right now LCD is your only alternative to CRT, there are some newer display techs on the horizon (such as SED or FED) but they likely won't be released for a long time yet.

    A few CRT questions

As long as you save your monitors data the first time you fire up Windas you can pretty much do whatever you want with it, if you screw up no big deal just load back the defaults. A degauss coil should be safe as long as it's used properly, you can find exact instructions on google. A magnet...

    A few CRT questions

The pots are not random, there will be only 2 of them, one for horizontal focus and the other is vertical focus. Just take the plastic casing off and look at the left side of the monitor, you should see them.

    A few CRT questions

Yes that is the result of magnetism, where exactly is the blotch located? If its not in a corner I'm not suprised the landing didn't help. I think your only option might be to try a degaussing coil, or maybe get ahold of a semi-strong magnet and put it near the blotch, I've heard that can...

    A few CRT questions

Have you tried adjusting the landing controls in the OSD to get rid of the purple corner? I don't see any reason why those wouldn't be there, but it does sound odd that image restore is missing. Windas does have landing options but they pretty much do the same as the OSD landing. You can't do...

    new CRT monitor

What exactly is wrong with your CRT? Overbright? Bad convergence? Depending on the problem you might be able to fix it using the Windas adjustment software/cable. I have used it to fix up several Trinitrons that appeared to be on their last legs. If you do have to buy another I wouldn't...

Desperate search for blacker black levels.

Yeah I doubt you will find what you want. I went on a quest very similar to yours and tried tons of LCD's but could not find anything with good enough blacks. Perhaps you should look at some LCD televisions? I doubt most of them would work well as a monitor but if you want the best possible...

Try those games on a 21" Sony GDM-F520 and I think your opinion might change. I just got one from Craigslist and it is without question the nicest CRT I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot of them. Until now I thought the G520 was king but this one blows it away in every aspect. The main...

Help, My Beloved NEC 20wmgx Is Stained.

If you do the RMA you could pick up a dirt cheap 17" CRT on craigslist to tide you over, it may not be ideal but at least its something. You might even be able to get one for free, people give them away all the time.

Sony GDM-F520 - stuck at 60hz with BNC

Well I just plugged the BNC cable in again and to my suprise all refreshrates are working now. Wonder why the heck they didn't work before, maybe it just needed to be re-plugged? Go figure. Thanks for the help guys.

I'm sure a Sony bezel would fit the HP version. It may look somewhat "unique" but it would still be better than having a damaged bezel. You could also paint the bezel or outer casing if you wanted things to match better.

Sony GDM-F520 - stuck at 60hz with BNC

I recently snagged a Sony GDM-F520 from a craigslist sale, overall its a really nice monitor (especially the black level, better than anything I've seen before) but I just ran into a slight problem. I'm trying to hook it up via BNC to my older computer with a Radeon 8500 but I can't get the...

Current state of the CRT display

The first used CRT I ever bought was a 2060u, and I recall those same reviews are what made me buy it over a Trinitron, which ended up being a big mistake on my part. The picture on the 2060u was very dull in terms of contrast. Upping the rgb gains helped a little but it still wasn't that good...

Current state of the CRT display

I have used that dynamic contrast feature on a Samsung 226BW and found it very annoying to see the backlight switch between light and dark all the time. It looked rediculous. As for backlight bleed the BenQ I tried also had an evenly uniform backlight with no light halos anywhere like so many...

Current state of the CRT display

I am not oblivious, I once bought a 24" BenQ FP241WZ and I've seen bigger monitors in person so I am well aware of their advantages. To a certain extent I agree with you, many games did look better on those LCD's than they do on my CRT's, but not games with any dark areas thats for sure...

Current state of the CRT display

Uhh I think you misunderstood me. I was pretty much saying exactly what you just did lol. My screen size comment was a vague reference to what Dogmapog was claiming, he is clearly the one with the "bigger is better mentality" not me. Heck if you put 2 computers running Thief in front of me...

Current state of the CRT display

Yep the bottom line is that EVERYTHING will work good and look good on a CRT, the same cannot be said for an LCD regardless of how large the screen is.

XBox 360 on LCDs: Is there a difference between VGA and HDMI?

I tried my xbox 360 with several 22" TN's and with the VGA cable I kept getting this weird white glowing halo around the edges of moving objects, obviously some type of ghosting I guess. But when I tried with an HDMI to DVI cable the ghosting completely dissapeared and things looked perfect...

    monitor for gaming

I myself have used an FP241WZ and found it completely, utterly (and totally) unnacceptable in the input lag department. Especially with my xbox 360. If you honestly think lag is a non issue you should get ahold of a CRT and do some back and forth testing, the difference is huge. What you get...

    LaCie CRT any good?

I have personally tried many Diamondtrons and Trinitrons and I like the Trinitrons a lot better. The text on them is almost always sharper, the colors almost always look better and they rarely drift in focus like the diamondtrons tend to do. PLUS if you get a Windas interface cablle you can make...

which 22" is the best for ps3 and pc? (samsung vs Asus vs Dell)

Nah i don't think that would make much of a difference. I tried an HDMI to DVI cable with my 360 and the colors were still bad, although it did fix a weird ghosting issue that was there with VGA. As for 720p it will look good (aside from the color) but the stretching to 16:10 really sucks. I...

which 22" is the best for ps3 and pc? (samsung vs Asus vs Dell)

Well first of all you need to be aware that your ps3 will be limited to 720P and the image will be stretched from 16:9 to 16:10 (unless you buy a more expensive LCD with 1:1 pixel mapping). And you also need to be aware of how utterly SHIT the colors will probably look. I tried my xbox 360 with...
