Yeah meant in general, not regarding this specific incident. Though this particular incident is the kind that some IT\Security teams will use as extra precaution, highlight the need for their team, flex power by making life harder through invaliding SSO login sessions, require new passwords...
From my understanding, basically one of the bigger single sign on (SSO) services that most businesses use. Regardless of cause/scope means a lot of headaches for IT as bunch of login sessions may need to be invalidated and services (photoshop, office 360, slack, etc.) that end users normally...
Yeah so probably 10mm less clearance than EVO so max is around 140mm for non EVO (need around 20-22mm spacing at minimum) for horizontal gpu so probably needs to go vertical if going anything beyond the 138mm height cards.
From https://hardforum.com/threads/nvidia-ceo-jensen-huang-hints-at-exciting-next-generation-gpu-update-on-september-20th-tuesday.2021544/page-22
I have the MSI Suprim X (Air) in O11D EVO and it fits horizontally with the Nvidia Adapter so anything up to 145mm height range should fit.
Yup, thankfully I have a decent local computer shop (RIP Fry's, Bay area Microcenter) in https://www.centralcomputer.com/ that can do local pickup/RMA/return. Kind of on topic, I had to RMA a bad videocard (4090) within return period and was able to get replacement same day by going to store...
Hmm, makes you wonder if Nvidia knew there would be some idiot scalper residuals so get scalper money at $1200 price point. Then come in like heroes with price cut to $800 two weeks before Christmas or 12/13.

^ At hardforum we knew that a week ago, using user evidence even: https://hardforum.com/threads/nvidia-rtx-4090-power-connectors-melting.2022862/page-7#post-1045496995. In the post I think I had to push connector 3 times to get full contact seen in screenshot for my Suprim X 4090, just felt way...
From your diagram above "Sense #2 and Sense #3 are empty" basically means no connection. From same page the connector has both cables cut at the end to Sense #2 and Sense #3 (result is same as having no cables):
I think sfsuphysics are on same page for looking root causes, which is probably multiple (user error, product defects (videocard connector, cable, psu, etc.) design, etc.). The root problem we're trying to figure out is what causes temps of 80c or above to melt plastic because 12 to 25 amps...
Yeah was worried at first because defective cables definitely sounds like a thing, but using both the included Nvidia adapter and a 3rd party Amazon one for past few weeks without any issues think most issues is user error (ie. loose connection for most then bending for the rest. I think...
Interesting from the megathread, there is one where the user shows the mount: https://new.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/ygstby/early_stage_adapter_melt_for_msi_gaming_trio_x3/.
This image shows the connector is not as tight as it could be (shouldn't see the sense pins metal)...
^ Yeah reading the a few datasheets for ATX connectors the melting point is >100c (assuming the 4090 power adapter uses similar plastic). Checked the side of my 4090 power connector with infrared thermometer I'm seeing at most 40c during 445w load (3dmark timespy). However, I'm using a...
Most likely, but it does seem there is little to none tolerance due to the small size of the connector. More audible click connector, thermistor on connector or some kind of connection sensor seems like a reasonable cost to help prevent a simple user error and costly RMAs.
Similar specs as erek 5950x (stock) and MSI Suprim X (Air) 4090 (stock) :

First time hearing the coil whine as usually run with 117FPS limiter for G-sync
Same, made sure connector was clicked and tight as possible. Just checked MSI 4090 Suprim X (Air version), looks fine as well after a week of use. Though I have a frame limiter of 117fps for G-sync so maybe see 70% power draw (around 330w) most of the time. Pretty stoked with it so far, going...
Ready to dust off Reverb G2 based on this VR Asseto Corsa Competizione benchmark and analysis:
90FPS on native res and high settings is damn good imo. MSI Suprim X coming in next week.
This is great. Decent pickings for Lian Li O11D if going horizontal mounting (was worried limited to FE). Max height clearance for O11D Evo is 169mm so thinking max card height is around 145mm and add about 20-25 mm for cable clearance (using the PSU adapter for non ATX 3.0 PSUs).
Yeah it's not the length that is an issue it's the GPU height (Motherboard to side window\panel) which is 162 mm and 4090 Strix is around 150mm so no room for power cable. FE probably fit at 137mm high and recessed power connector, but want to go AIB. Time to get the Corsair 900D out of mothballs.
Damn, and I just upgraded to Lian Li O11D Evo because previous mid tower didn't allow bottom to top fan air flow. Evga 3080ti FTW3's 3rd fan would spool to max because memory temp went to 90c. That got fixed with O11D with gpu mounted horizontally. Probably have to go hybrid aio as horizontal...
Yeah this is what I find terrible about this even if doesn't affect me. I know better, but Nvidia should show a little respect/consideration for all their consumers.
I get the naming scheme is probably to get higher margin for lower cut die to inflate margins (ie. to keep stock prices from...
Interesting question, 5900x should be more abundant. 5800x3D should be rare enough to maybe warrant some kind of collector value. Hmm, never thought I'd view CPUs like game loot drops.
Hmm, 1.8 Billion to build. Got to give Chris Roberts some credit, selling jpgs seems a lot more profitable. I wonder how hiring/performance reviews go for developers at CIG, like do they get bonuses for not meeting deadlines?
Don't get why Vegas doesn't just make a life size starship and throw in hookers and blow to whales spending money on SC.
Reading the backstory from ChadD on Chris Roberts, I'm waiting for The Wolf Of Street movie of this. It'd be hilarious if Chris Roberts first started the SC kickstarter...
Yeah Capitalism sucks when it doesn't benefit us. Playing devil's advocate, a system that rewards it's most profitable customers doesn't seem like a bad business move. Also the people who find extended warranties worth it as well as use the installation services(ie. not us) will find the BB...
Lol, this reminds of the scene in Billy Madison about Business Ethics. Now I imagine it with Tim Sweeney. I mean Epic should be totally fine with apps being hosted in Epic Game store for free as trial, but developer can use own payment system to unlock.
Yeah think the 12v pins are opposite for eps and pci-e on non psu side so thinking the successful athlon test and replacing the mobo most likely means cpu got fried. Maybe the psu ocp prevented fireworks, but killed the cpu/mobo. Seems like when you test cpu on different working system...
